a.My main concerns are: spending 4 years in scool (2 years to do the pre-req) b.Not being able to find a job here on the Big island of Hawaii It would be impractical for me to move my whole family somewhere else. I have been an RN for two years and am 49 years old, it is the best thing I could've done for myself. When you become an RN there are so many avenues within nursing, many of them not in a hospital. Simply having the designation RN can open doors. To answer your questions. a. In 4 years time you can either be 4 years older, wondering if you would have made a good nurse, or you can be a nurse. b.Would you rather be someone with an RN behind her name looking for a job, or just looking for a job?

I too am a new nurse (just over a year), I have found that my co workers are my best resource. If you make a point of being their to help them out when they need it, you will soon become a part of the team. It doesn't take long to figure out which ones like to teach, listen, observe and show them that you value their experience and knowledge. You will soon be teaching others.

:crying2:The rehab was a DRUG rehab, hence, no physically sick people, or wounds. I decided not to go that route and the way the job market is looking for new grads, I'll probably take any job that's offered. I wish I could just go straight into wound care, but it doesn't look like that's going to happen

I will be graduating in May with an ADN, I want to be a wound care nurse. First thing will need to do is get my bachelors then WOCN, so I know it will take a few years. I have an interview in a teen drug rehab that I feel I have a good chance at getting. This would enable me to have more time for classes (due to already having chemical dependency experience already, as opposed to very little med surg type experience so far). I don't know if I should snap up the rehab job if it's offered or hold out and hope I can land me a job in an LTAC where I'd see more wounds.
