Contact isolation for MRSA question
I work in Oncology, specifically Bone Marrow Transplant and Stem Cell transplants...our facility has the same policy as some I've seen posted here...pts who have ANY history of MRSA or VRE are placed in iso (it's a case of guilty till proven innocent). If they come back neg we take them off iso. It's at least 7 days til we get their culture results back. Our pts are usually with us for some time. Each Sunday we do two swabs. The reason this is being done is because of Medicare. The gov is refusing to pay for treatment of these pts who get these bugs in the hospital, just like decubs, etc. So we swab to determine if they had it when they came in. It's sad it all comes down to the bottom line, but lets face it...without our facilities caring about that bottom line, we wouldn't have a job, or one that pays anything.

i failed second semeter RN SCHOOL, i'm not sure what to do now? accounting? business?
I believe it is possible to fail even when studying all the time. I've seen it happen. The reason is usually HOW you are studying. Get with a study group (no more than 5-6 people). When I was in nursing school, there were several groups of students in my class that moderated these groups. We would get together regularly. For some it is easier to learn from your peers than from instructors who in my experience were mostly a pain in the bowhunkus. You might be studying too much. Don't study for more than 2 hours without a break. I was a non-traditional student and I felt I had to study longer and harder than any of my peers. But when I began studying with a group, everything clicked. I graduated with honors and I KNOW you can do it too. Do you cram before a test? Don't. Do you second guess your answers? Don't, go with your first, it's usually the right one. Don't memorize, try to understand the rationales, then you can apply them to anything. I don't know why second semester seems to be the most difficult, but that is the one I hear most students have problems with. Talk to your nursing advisor and let her know how much you want to be a nurse (if that is the case). Everyone deserves a second chance. If you don't make it this semester, apply the next. In the meantime, keep studying. There are all sorts of other classes you can take while you're waiting to get back in, that will go towards your degree. I wish you much luck!!!

OMG! The State is coming...
Take a deep breath.....and for gosh sakes don't have ANYTHING in your pockets to include flushes, meds, etc. Alcohol wipes and such are ok. It made me a bit nervous that you are only being asked to follow P&P when the state is coming. I agree whole-heartedly with the other posts reflecting you should have been trained the proper way from the get-go. You have been given great advice from the other postees. Just remember, everything you are expected to do requires one single thing....common sense. Follow your gut and you'll be fine. You are lucky you had warning the state was coming. Jhaco nor the State gives us any warning. Good Luck!!!

Nursing school help
Hello...I don't know anything about your situation, but I was a what they called a "Non-Traditional" student (which was just a nicer term for "older than dirt", when I went to nursing school. If you are a displaced homemaker, single mom, etc....go talk to your unemployment office. I was in the state of Mississippi at the time and they gave me a grant each semester in the amount of $1500 (if my memory serves me correctly). You just have to maintain a certain GPA. There is a certain time of year they accept applications and because its an involved process you need to start on that application early so it's ready when they are accepting. Just a little tidbit FYI
