  1. It took me a day or 2 to like the Lisa Arend's CD's I'll be honest because I felt like there was SO MUCH STUFF EVERYWHERE. She made her notes as neat and organized as she thought she could I guess but I personally realized that her stuff was redundant so when I clicked on Cliffnotes 1 for example, then cliffnotes 2 tab, they both contained same info....almost like she's repeating it but if you can get past that, you'll be OK. It's prob good that it's repeated so it can stick but a bit annoying in the beginning as you are overwhelmed with a LOAD of info that basically looks worse than what it is. So in a nutshell after ALL my contradicting lol, Lisa Arends CD's turned out to be EXTREMELY HELPFUL especially after reading her REVIEW sections which RECAPPED everything she said would be on the exam BUT IN A MUCH SHORTER VERSION. Hope I made myself clear. Very curious about the SG101 though? But maybe I should stick with what I have if it's working for me lol.
  2. the one i have is titled like this in this exact order from top to bottom: prentice hall nursing comprehensive review for nclex-rn reviews & rationales. mary ann hogan isbn-13: 978-0-13-119599-8 isbn-10: 0-13-119599-9 it's from 2008 and i still use it now even for my excelsior exams. fyi: pearson vue / prentice hall make the same book. they have a website inside the book called: http://www.mypearsonstore.com .......hope this helps. i heard there was another edition out now like 2011 or 2012 but don't quote me on that. also, the book was $50 not $60 now that i'm actually looking at the book. hope this helps. it's def worth stopping by a bookstore to see how great this book is. i don't think mine had a plastic cover.
  3. comprehensive nclex-rn review prentice hall nursing by: mary ann hogan i passed with this book. the lab values are the exact values you need to know since pearson vue is the one testing you. don't learn lab values from any other book....if this book says k+ is 3.5 - 5.1 or norm glucose level is 75 - 115 (just examples), then that's what it is. the sample q's are identical. you can choose q's a la cart to focus on areas where you need more help. then when you sit for actual exam you will see the same layout as the sample q's (gray screen, how q's are worded, even the select all that apply are similar, etc) best of all are the rationales, you learn so much with their rationale after each q. they are to the point and very precise! i love this book. had i known sooner, i would not have wasted 100's of $$ on books when in nursing school. i never read them anyway only to cram the night before exams.....
  4. *** word of advice to all nclex takers: *** all you need to pass your boards is 1 book::clpty: pearson vue nclex-rn (barnes & noble - $60) or (nclex-pn for lpn's) - $60 yes, pearson vue (the center where you will sit for the actual exam has their own review book).... why people buy saunders, lippincott, kaplan, etc is beyond me!!!!! :smackingf best $60 ever spent....trust me! all the best! spread the word.....save people time & $$$$
  5. ALL you need to pass NCLEX is 1 book: Pearson Vue NCLEX-RN Book (Barnes & Noble - $60) And DO NOT, I repeat, DO NOT sit for the test if you're getting less than 70% on your practice exams!!! It will be a waste of your time & $. NOTHING LESS THAN 70%..... TRUST ME! All the best!
  6. *** WORD OF ADVICE TO ALL EXCELSIOR STUDENTS: **** ALL you need to pass ALL EXCELSIOR exams & NCLEX are: 1. Lisa Arends CD's (get them on Ebay for $60...HER STUFF IS ON POINT...like she remembered the whole exam, I swear....word for word it's insane!!!! 2. Pearson Vue NCLEX-RN Book (Barnes & Noble - $60) Best $120 EVER spent....TRUST ME! If you can only get 1 out of the 2, get Lisa Arends CD pkg on EBAY (for the EC test takers). All the best!
  7. Working in LTC for 3 months and I am asked to do ALL injections (incl. FINGERSTICKS) in pt's room. I'm also told to crush all meds SEPERATELY. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! Why couldn't they teach me the right way from jump then I wouldn't be able to compare "the rules & regulations" to anything better?!!! So, I've been doing injections in their rooms now and the residents HATE it. They are SO annoyed that I am wheeling them sometimes just to stick their finger! A few of them told me to start a petition....so I called the state myself to see if PATIENTS HAVE A RIGHT TO HAVE INJECTIONS IN THE DINING ROOM IF IT'S THEIR WISH. I'm waiting for a call back from the state...I don't think I'm gonna win this one...!!!!I'll keep you posted. :icon_roll
  8. I am fed up with my 1st nursing job at a nursing home!!! As a new LPN, I don't know what's legal or not and how much I should take. Here's the 411 with this facility....any help/suggestions???? * 40 Residents, 1 LPN (me), 4 CNS's. I can't comprehend how they (Administration) want me to give AM meds (many of which are crushed, do Finger Sticks, Give injections, Do treatments, AND WORK THE DESK ALL IN 8 hours! Working the desk = picking up orders, like D/C this, start that, write up this consult, do that labwork, etc. Is it just me or is this insane?????? Also, I feel for the CNA's because there are times when there are 4 CNA's instead of 5 in the AM shift...that's 10 total care for each CNA....is that cool? Not too concerned about them since they manage to leave at 2:59pm but is this the norm for PT/CNA Ratio? Speaking of ratios, how can I find out if 40 Residents for 1 LPN is acceptable? Sure, I'm not bathing them, but do EVERYTHING else for them ...AM MEDS & TX ARE A LOT TO DEAL WITH, aside from ppwk. And when the Md comes in , forget about it.... Keep in mind I don't get paid past 3pm :angryfire.....HELP!!!!!
