why does hyponatremia cause hyperactive bowel sounds?
good you edited your question to match the title.... that happened to me too but i didnt change it. i just said that i made i mistake..... okay.... try to look at the uses of sodium... Small amounts are needed to maintain blood pressure and normal function of muscle contraction and conduction of nerve impulses. .... also look at the process of osmosis. fluid moves from a lower concentration to a higher concentration. since there is hyponatremia (low concentration of sodium in the blood), the body will try to even up the ratio, so the fluid might move into the digestive tract. this movement may cause the increased peristalsis (for excretion).... just trying to look at every angle of the disorder...... im not quite sure but hope this helps..:)

why does hyponatremia cause hyperactive bowel sounds?
the content in your question doesnt jive...........anyway, in certain cases, the two are related. there is what you call hypotonic overhydration----over dilution of electrolytes (Na, K, and such.) but the most useful way of determining the difference is looking at the pathophysiology of the two. with fluid overload, there would bounding pulses, increased BP, and and cough/dyspnea caused by pulmonary edema. remember that the blood vessels have different pressures that act upon it. oncotic pressure (from albumin) and hydrostatic pressure. since there is excess fluid, the ratio of albumin in blood vessels is lower, making the hydrostatic pressure increase---- causing the fluids to go into the spaces... in this case the lungs.... but with hyponatremia, symptoms vary with with changes in vascular volume. so if there is more fluid, there would be a lower ratio of sodium in it. if there is less, a higher concentration of sodium. it seems i didnt answer your question... anyway, what im trying to say is that since sodium is responsible for water balance, its signs and symptoms greatly vary according to the fluid volume in the body, (normovolemic, hypervolomic, hypovolemic).... hope i got to answer it. though its still a bit vague, i found that the study of the pathophysioogy of the two and physiology of the tissues involved would greatly help to figure out the signs and symptoms and how to intervene.....:) im still also trying to figure certain things out.... :smiletea2:

after 10 days, still no name on BRN CA website, does that mean you failed?
i dont think so. its too farfetch to assume that you failed only after 10 days. though its a possibility, the best that you can do is wait. accordingly. it takes 20-30 days for the results to come out. so it would be excruciating if you keep on worrying. just let go. and if worse comes to worse, you can always retake it again. its not what we want to happen, but its better than giving up! smile and be happy!

mushrooming of nursing schools abroad.....
i agree with your point renee... and i must say that you explained your point so well. the only thing is, being a filipino, its sad what is happening in the philippines. and this goes to all doctors in the philippines who left for nursing. philippine patients are just waiting for another medical mission from some other country just to get whatever health care that they could get. the fact is, many nursing schools have sprung just to be able to supply nurses abroad and not the philippines. though what you said is true in your case, in this case, a lot of professionals in the philippines moved to nursing just to be able to get out of there. it would be mortifying for filipino nurses to say that "im a nurse working in the US" knowing that most of the Filipinos imply that you went in the profession because of the money and to get out of the country. coz if you would put two and two togther, thats what you get. (philippine economy and nurses abroad). thats what i dont like about it. and since most nursing schools do not have the backbone to educate the students, new filipino nurses lack the experience and the proper training. (but there are good schools out there). i explained a narrow point of view. i didnt take into account the whole picture. philippine economy has always been down, so health care will definitely be affected. this could be one reason why professionals choose to go into nursing. plus i agree with the point that you emphasized, the one that Peplau said. many of the professionals who changed to nursing only want to use it as a stepping stone to something else. so i agree that what is importatn is the reason you stayed. one other thing. those who are able to join medical missions, please do so. this is one good way to help....

mushrooming of nursing schools abroad.....
thats what i dont like about the whole idea. even if money is of consequence, its not supposed to be "we are nurses because we are payed well"..... its supposed to be the other way around.... "we are payed well because we are nurses...." and though we cant deny the fact that money is really good in health care professions here in the US, it will still not suffice as a drive because, in the long run, with how the economy is going (the cost cutting and such), it must take more than that to keep the nursing profession afloat... and i admire those who do it, not for the pay, but because they actually love their job.... i know, that for some, this is too ideal and naive.... but its something that should actually be reflected upon. thanks for the insight!

mushrooming of nursing schools abroad.....
this has been an issue for awhile in the philippines. and i dont know if anybody here is aware of it. its just sad that most people go into this profession because of the monetary benefits that it has to offer. even practicing doctors give up their title just to become nurses abroad. in one article from the LA times, a province in the Philippines had 207 doctors. now 79 are nurses, and 30 are in nursing school. and i think that most of them have gone abroad. im happy that they decided to go into nursing and i cannot actually blame them for doing that. (philippine economy has never been great....) what i dont agree is that they left a place where they could do the most good. and most importantly, they chose it for the wrong reasons, plus, they abandoned the people that need them most....

This can help reduce your NCLEX anxiety
anxiety can make you forget everything that you studied and waste all your time during the exam. i was so nervous when i went to take my exam that all that went through my head was "i can't fail this".... and ended up failing it. but i will not give up. i will just study harder. and take a different approach.

thanks for all the messages. i really appreciate it! im starting to be less overwhelmed. and seriously thinking of using suzzane's plan. i just dont know if the suander's practice quizzes would still serve its purpose of assessing if i already took it a couple of times. would there be an alternative... i read suzzane's first tip... and accordingly there is none. but if in this case, would it still work?

dont lose hope. though all of us hope to pass it in just one try, you can always retake it... plus, it will only take weeks to get another eligibility letter (that's after you reapply to test). its not what we hoped but still there's a chance.

need a new study approach for nclex.... any ideas?
hi. im new here and im sure this topic has been posted a million times.... i just really need a new aproach on how to go about studying for the nclex. there are so many review books available and so many ways to read them. (im currently using saunder's comprehensive review). the approach im currently using is reading the chapter fisrt before answering the questions for each chapter... but i also heard that one good technique is to answer the questions first to assess my knowledge about the topic. this was told tome as part of "suzzane's plan"... anyway, im asking this to give me an idea. with all the review books coming out, its hard to pick. i might even think of buying a different book. i would greatly appreciate any advice.... :hngon:
