  1. Well thank you everyone for your responses. It is amazing how much an online forum can be a support system. My husband and I have talked it through and decided that we are going to "strap down" and just get it over with. He knows I am really unhappy and is starting to understand that I have taken care of him while he has got his business going....so now it is my turn. I am so excited to start working torwards something with meaning! Thanks again
  2. Thanks for the advice. I know he is trying to think realisticly, but I don't mind struggling for another year. I see it as one to two years of unhappiness while going to school or many years of unhappiness staying at a job I hate. I am going to go home and talk to him and see if we can work something out. Thanks again
  3. I was a bio major for 2 years and took a lot of bio classes including both intros, micro and anatomy. I have to say that Intro to Bio one was the hardest biology class I have taken. There is just so much info to absorb in such a short amount of time. I worked like crazy studying for hours and managed to get one of 3 A's in the class. At the beginning of the class there were 26 students. By the end there were 18. 3 got A's 5 got b's and 2 got c's the rest failed. My professor said that it is a "weed out" class so keep working at it. You will do great. It is a lot of memorization...just like anatomy and micro. Find a study habit that works for you. For me I have to write it out on paper and then say it out loud to myself. Just reading doesn't work for me. So just stay determined and don't let Intro to Bio win! You can do it! You have such great classes to look forward to. And about the professor, I hate to tell you but there is going to come a time that you are going to have to take a class, good professor or not. A good professor really helps but it is not always an option. I would say that you have already put a lot of effort into the class and to keep working at it. Don't let a bad professor get to you. Good luck!
  4. Hello all! I am a newbie to the site and have to say that I absolutely love it. All of the support on here is amazing. Well here is my story. I started college in 2002 as a biology major knowing that I wanted to do something in the medical field. I went to school part-time because I had to maintain a full-time job. In 2005 I found out I was pregnant and had a really rough pregnancy. After my son came, I had no time for labs and couldn't even consider clinicals so I changed my major to business. I then got a job at a CPA firm and have been working as an accountant for 3 years. Well I am miserable and hate sitting at a desk all day. I feel like I was robbed of what I wanted to do with my life. Now, I want to go back to school for a second degree in nursing and my husband is really upset with me. He is so happy that we are finally living comfortably and not living pay check to paycheck anymore. He thinks I am crazy for wanting to change professions because I make really good money, but he just can't understand that I am going nuts at work. I spend a quarter of my work day researching nursing and studying for the entrance exams when I should be working, but I just can't stay focused. I have applied for the LPN program in the area because the RN application passed a while ago. So I know I will have to quit my day job because night classes are not an option. I guess I am just asking if I am crazy for wanting to do this. For wanting to go back living on a tight budget and getting a job for the next year where I will be lucky to make half what I make now and that is if I work full time. I really want this and am willing to work hard for it. My son is three now and he is so much easier to take care of. It might not seem right but I know that if I need to study now, I can let him watch a cartoon for a while. That wasn't an option back then. Sorry for the long post. Thanks, Barbara
  5. No I had not even thought of that. I haven't missed the deadline so I am definitely going to apply. Thank you so much! I have not been this excited about school for such a long time. Unfortunately Brunswick's website doesn't have much info on their website. I can't wait to speak to someone on Monday to see how their point system works. I live south of monkey junction so it would be a 40 minute drive. But it is definitely worth it.
  6. I recently moved back to Wilmington, I grew up here and then moved to Maryland for a few years. Most parts of Wilmington are good as long as you stay away from downtown. I work at Eastwood and Military Cutoff which is like a mile from Wrightsville. The area is quite expensive (well for NC definitely not compared to Maryland). Are you planning on getting an apartment, renting a house or buying. There are a lot of nice complexes. I live in monkey junction, I use to live in Leland. I love the monkey junction area it is about a 20 minute drive to wrightsville, but carolina beach is really nice too which is 5 minutes away. Ogden will probably be the most reasonably priced area closest to Wrightsville so try there. I believe it should be a 28403 area code. Good luck!
  7. Hello, I am new to the forum. I recently moved to Wilmington. I started my degree in bio about 5 years ago and then found I was pregnant a few years back. Taking labs became impossible and I never thought that I would have time to do clinicals and labs with a child but the time has come that I am absolutely miserable with my job as an accountant and my husband said that we will work it out. I need more interaction with people and I love helping people. Seeing I have missed the rn application deadline, I have decided to apply for the lpn program at Cape Fear Community and then to pursue the rn online. I have left messages for the admissions counselor asking what the acceptance rates are, but have yet to receive a response. I know it is on a point based calculation. But am wondering about how many applicants there are. After reading this site (which is awesome I might add), I have only found info on rn admission rates, not lpn rates. So if anyone knows on average how many applicants there are for the lpn program that would be great. I am by no means a straight a student but have taken all of the entry requirements but anat & phys 2 (only taken part 1 thus far). I am hoping that I might have a chance of getting in. Also, I was considering taking the Nurse Aid 1. I know they don't get paid very well but does anyone know what the night salary is at new hanover regional? If anyone has any info that would be great. Thanks!
