  1. Thanks for all of the helpful information! I will probably just be content with the later lab time. I am just going to accept that I will be a busy person for a couple of months and just stay on top of everything and not get behind. We leave for vacation on saturday, so I am excited to enjoy this time with my family since when I come back I will have one more week of freedom before classes begin. Do you have any other job besides tutoring? I just wondered since they said some students can handle working the 15 to 20 hours and some can't. I guess it just depends on the person.
  2. Hi Mully, Thanks for the encouragement! I am nervous about the first 8 weeks. I am a brand new student to JCC, so its been a lot of work just to get everything organized for the first week of classes. I didn't even realize I had to attend new student orientation, so I finally did that in order to register for classes. I still got a few things left to do, but hopefully be ready by Aug 29th. I had a question for you, as far as lab times, for example, for Nurs 2450 if you had to register for the 3pm to 5pm, are they strict about you coming to the lab time or are you allowed to come in earlier? I was just curious. I was kind of surprised they let us pick our sections this semester, but I think they can move people around though to make the sections even. Have you been a JCC student before you started the ADN program?
  3. I was so surprised when I saw that letter, I couldn't believe it myself! It didn't seem real until I sent the paperwork back in the mail stating I will attend in the fall. Congratulations to your friends who go in! It will be interesting to know more about the program in July at orientation.
  4. Thank you very much MICHRNTOB! It has been a long journey and I am just excited to finally get accepted! My friend just graduated from the accelerated BSN program at EMU and she liked their program. Good luck to you too!!
  5. Yes I do recognize you too!!!! I was excited too, couldn't believe it really. I believe I was talking to you on the Madonna discussion board since I was going to apply there too.
  6. I got my acceptance letter into JCC for fall 2011!
  7. Hi Thomas, Your suggestions are very helpful! Thanks for posting them!
  8. I hope I do!!! I have worked so hard on pre-requisites for the past few years, it has taken me so long it seems like. Thanks for all of your helpful information!
  9. I tried for EMU for fall of 2009 and I was an alternate, there was only 2 of us who didn't get off the list. I kind of took a break from school and worked as a nursing assistant for awhile. I'm looking into other schools. I took 3 pre-requisites at EMU including there A&P sequence. I'm not sure how the point system works now as far as getting points for all of the pre-requisites or just for the science pre-requisites. Maybe getting healthcare experience, all of the TEAS points, and taking pre-requisites at EMU would increase the chances of getting accepted. When I applied, it was a weird year, not as many applicants as normal, therefore, my friend got in without any pre-requisites taken at EMU, but she got all of the other points.
  10. I talked to the testing person at Madonna and she said scores are good for 2 years, so I took the TEAS IV in spring of 2009 and I got in the 80s, however, I took the TEAS V in June and only got a 76.77 overall. I thought it was a little harder this time with the science and that is the section that broiught my overall score down. I just needed to review the gen chem and gen bio more. I got in the 80s and in the 90s on the other 3 sections. I'm kind of nervous that my score isn't good enough to get accepted.
  11. I saw online that EMU has some information sessions in July, so I am going to try to attend one since I haven't been to one since 2008. I saw on the 2007 points criteria sheet that you got points for any of the science pre-requisites done at EMU, so is that still true or do you get points for any of the 8 pre-requisites taken at EMU?
  12. Congratulations on your acceptance! I am thinking of applying next year. Its been a couple of years since I have been to an information session, so I am thinking of going to one this summer. I know they have a point system, but I was just curious how many points a person needs to be competitive.
  13. I would have gotten full points for the TEAS, points for healthcare experience, and I took 3 pre-requisities at EMU. Where I lost points was for the A & P sequence, I had to count a B and re-taking it wouldn't have made much of a difference since they average the grades. I wouldn't have gotten the full points for the A&P I and II and the organice chem GPA. My friend just graduated this year from EMU's accelerated program. She's studying now for the NCLEX exam at the end of June. Again, congratulations and good luck in nursing school!
  14. Congratulations on your acceptance letter!!! I ended up not applying this year. I just didn't think I had enough points to be competitive. Do you by any chance know how many points a person needed to have to be competitive?
  15. Yeah I am thinking of checking out LCC too. They changed their point system a little bit which I think helps students out. I took some pre-requisites there too. I just needed to take Pharmacology and then I could apply for their accelerated ADN program for fall 2012. I'm just trying to take each day one at a time and see what hapens! I am going to get on schoolcrafts waitlist too, but that could take 3 to 4 years to start, that is the only bad thing.
  16. Hi! The HESI went good! The review book helped with the math and english components. The HESI isn't really timed either. I hope a miracle hapens and I have a chance to get into JCC with my point total, but I won't be surprised if I don't though. I just counted a low humanities course from over 10 years ago and I should have taken a new course. Plus in the one section of the app I had a W, so that hurt me. All I can do is stay positive and have another plan if JCC doesn't work out. I wish you good luck too when you apply!
  17. I thought the TEAS 5 was a little harder for me than the TEAS 4. I agree with you about getting the 80, I actually was a little shy of getting the overall grade of an 80. The science portion hurt me because it was a lot of general chem and bio and I took those classes over 10 years ago, so it wasn't fresh in my mind like A&P. The testing person at Madonna said I could take it again at Madonna. I am just debating whether or not I could be ready in a month to take the TEAS again. Its just the bio and chem I would have to review. I started the essay for Madonna already, so I will be able to submit that part in July. You are right about OU, I think the traditional BSN has a wait once you are accepted. I know the accelerated BSN is like an 18 month wait once you do the interview and get accepted. I know some people who had to interview twice to get in and another person who didn't get accepted again. I guess all schools use different criteria to decide who they pick into their programs. I wonder if an advisor at Madonna would tell me a certain score they are looking for on the TEAS. I just don't want my score to hurt my chances of getting in because of my science section score.
  18. Hi! Does anyone know what scores on the TEAS are expected? I know some schools just had cut off scores, but Madonna didn't say anything about scores would be competitive enough. I know they use other criteria when looking at applicants, but I just want to make sure I submit the best possible exam score that I can do.
  19. I am taking it on June 7th at Schoolcraft College. Madonna's testing person said I could transfer the score in. I wanted to take it at Schoolcraft because I needed it for their waitlist which is a few year wait. I just wanted a backup plan just in case I didn't get into Madonna or somewhere else sooner than Schoolcraft would start.
  20. Hi! Have you taken the TEAS V test? I have the study book, but just wondered what you thought of the test.
  21. Thanks for the encouragement anne11! I just wish I would have read over the point system more before I applied. My point total was really less than the 85 or 90 pts. I even told the advisor that my point total was low. Her response back to me was, it's not bad that I'm some where in the middle. I can wait and see what hapens! I can stay positive, but I wouldn't be surprised if I get a rejection letter in the mail. I at least have another plan in mind. Will you be done this summer?
  22. I kind of figured I needed that many points to be competitive. You are right they did change the point system a little bit, and I think I would have gotten more with the old system. Plus I lost points in Area III because I had a W. I should have realized that would have hurt me before I applied. I tried any way, but I don't think I will get in. I took a CNA class before and I worked as a nurses aid for a couple of years, so I think that will help. Also, my pre-req grades were good besides this humanities course I took over 10 years ago. I guess I could have re-took a B course, but it would have hurt me in Area III points, so I don't think I had a chance for JCC. I am going to get on Schoolcraft college's waitlist and I am thinking of applying to LCC for fall 2012. They made changes to their point system which I think gives me a better chance to be competitive. Thank for your helpful information! Congratulations on almost being done! I bet you are excited to be close to finishing up.
  23. Hi! I just filled out the application today with the advisor and I am taking the HESI in a couple of weeks. Do you know how many points you need to be competitive? I was just curious. The advisor really wouldn't say. Does fall semester start in August then? I am sure the program keeps a person very busy! Can you work part time during the program? I heard from most students to not work if you don't have to.
  24. I am taking the TEAS in June and applying in July, so hopefully I will get accepted. I am just trying to figure out a financial plan since I am thinking the only financial aid I will qualify for is loans, so I am hoping I can save up some more money to pay for some tutition on my own along with student loans.
  25. Thank you very much for the helpful info! Once you start the nursing program, how many semesters long is it? I was just trying to estimate the cost to finish the program.
