  1. amanda4duke....how's it going?? did you end up finding a job through a travel agency to work for in sydney? i should be receiving my nursing registration from sydney within the next month or so. i already my my working holiday visa...now i just wait!! :) how's your experience been so far?!
  2. i'm a nurse from the US looking to do travel nursing in australia too!! any luck with any companies so far? have you signed with anyone yet?
  3. I'm applying from the US. 5 months!! That's a long time! I'll be looking for work in Sydney. How long did you work as a nurse for before you started there in Australia? Are you there with a Work and Holiday Visa?? That's the one that I applied for. Wow, I know everyone says applying for a license through the AHPRA takes a long time but I didn't realize it was THAT long!! I read in another post that a nurse from Canada applied in October and still hasn't received her license yet!! Did you move to Australia first while you were waiting for your license to be processed? And once you received your license, did you find that agencies were more willing to work with you? I'm actually going to Sydney for vacation in about 2 weeks and wanted to set up appointments with agencies to ask questions about benefits, housing, contracting, ect. but they all kind of brushed me off and said to recontact them again once I have m license...which I guess makes sense if it really does take that long to process!! But all in all I'm very excited and can't wait, I'd love to hear all about your transitioning!!
  4. SarahRN, that's so exciting!!! I'm a Nurse from the US with 2 years experience on a cardiac/telemtry floor and just mailed all my paperwork into the AHPRA a week ago. :) Just the waiting game now!! How long would you say your entire process took before you officially got your license to work in Oz? Would you mind me asking what agency you're working for and what city? How difficult would you say the transition has been?? So your TOE is our TEE and your GORD is our GERD? how funny. :)
  5. Hi Rach!! I'm just reading over the entire post now because it seems that we are both going through the same thing! I am a nurse from the US with 2 years experience working on a cardiac/telemetry floor and looking to do travel nursing over in Sydney by July as well. :) It seems like you've been having the same difficulties/frustrations with all this registration and paperwork as I am!! I am actually going to sydney for vacation in about 2 weeks so I started contacting travel nursing agencies in Sdyney to set up some time to talk to someone face to face about benefits, housing, assignments, basically how everything works!! but i've been hearing the same thing from everyone. They are all basically telling me to recontact them again after I officially get my nursing license through AHPRA because most jobs that the agencies have available are sort of an ASAP basis. So, basically, they don't know what the openings will be like from one week to the next because it is constantly changing, that's why they don't really care to talk to you until you have your license. That being said, I also read that it takes about 90 days to process and if that nurse from Canada applied and October and hasn't heard back from now, I think that is crazy!!! I really hope it doesn't take that long because like I said, I am planning on going there in July as well. Which visa did you apply for? I applied for the Work and Holiday visa that is good for a year. It's the one that you can only get one in your lifetime and you have to be between a certain age to get it. Anyway, we should keep each other updated since it looks like we're both planning the same things :)
  6. i know this thread is from almost a year ago but i am now in the same boat and have lots of questions :) i'm a nurse here in the US with 2 years experience on a cardiac/telemetry floor and just applied for my nursing license through the AHPRA to work in australia, specifically sydney any advice on travel agencies, experiences, what's the usual nurse patient ratio on a telemetry/step down unit?? any and all advice is greatly appreciate :)
