  1. Thank you for all your replies! Pamela...I'll probably take you up on that if you don't mind?? Thanks again.
  2. HI! Yes I have my UK passport and Canadian RN (i've asked a few questions on here!). Haven't gone through the NMC yet, I need to do my english test first. Where did you see the jobs advertised, through the NHS? I would prefer to work in Lanarkshire or Edinburgh. Thanks for your information and reply!
  3. I've been looking into working in Scotland and came across this website...Continental Travel Nurse. I am wondering if anyone has heard anything about this organization? Good? Bad? After reading their site, they seem decent but it's hard to tell. If anyone has anything to add about this travel nurse organization or any other organization for that matter - would you mind giving your input?! Thank you so much! I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas and will have a safe and Happy New Year!!
  4. Thank you for the information. I'll probably have more questions as the time goes on!
  5. Thank you for your reply pami75! I want to get at least 1 year experience before I move over, I'm currently working on a medical ward (stroke - peritoneal dialysis - ARF - alcohol withdrawl and everything in between!). I would be living in Lanarkshire. Also what do you mean by "trust?" I'm not sure if that is the same sort of thing here in BC where we have a "health authority" for different areas of the province.
  6. Thanks for your reply! I have been looking at the jobs available on that web link you provided. It's hard to imagine that nursing jobs are hard to come by when you see the openings. Is it harder to find a job as a new graduate? Thanks again!
  7. Hi everyone! I am wondering if anyone can help me out here. Hopefully around this time next year I will be on my way to my new life in Scotland. I am a RN working on a medical floor in BC, Canada. I have dual citizenship and understand the overseas process to register and work in the UK. However I am wondering about RN job vacancies within the NHS. I have reviewed their vacancies but have heard many times that nursing jobs are hard to get in the UK...is this true? I would be considered a Band 5 (new grad). Are there any other websites that anyone can give that list RN job vacancies outside the NHS? Are these "outside" jobs on a lower pay rate? Also what is the difference between a "staff nurse" and "bank nurse?" ...staff nurse being a position on a certain ward, given a set of hours and a bank nurse being on call for a certain floor(s)??? I'm unsure!?! Thanks for your help!
  8. The website is a great source of information! Thank you!
  9. Hi everyone, I am trying to gather as much information as I can...I am looking to move to Scotland next year. I have just graduated and passed the Canadian RN exam (have BSN also) and working on a medical floor. I have dual citizenship and British passport. I am wondering if anyone can tell me if I must sit the English language exam. I have read that b'c I was trained overseas that I have to...I have also read that because I have a British passport that I don't. Does anyone know (still waiting on reply emails)???? Thanks!!
  10. Thank you so much for your help! I am hoping to have this all figured out soon and if all goes well, make the move next year. Need a fresh start and Scotland seems like the perfect place to do it...for me anyway!! I have also been looking on the web for nursing recruitment sites for the UK but I haven't been able to find a great site. Does anyone know of a reliable recruitment company? Thanks again!
  11. Hi everyone! I have just joined this site hoping to gather some helpful hints and information about nursing in Scotland. I have recently graduated and working on a medical floor in Canada, my goal is to work in Scotland (I also have UK citizenship). I understand through certain universities I would have to complete the ONP, apply to have a NMC membership and complete an English exam. I would like to find out where I can find information about the UK "Grade" system. Also, would I have any trouble finding work (med/surg adult nursing)...I've heard two different stories, that there are plenty of jobs for RNs and that the new grads in the UK are having trouble finding jobs. Thank you for your help!!
