Really disappointed with the reality of nursing.
I have been in nursing for 6 years. I have had a trend that I could only take 2 years in each area that I transferred to. I have worked, peds, er, icu. I enjoyed ICU the most but the constant cuts to staffing soon made it miserable also. I felt so guilty not providing the level care the patient's deserved. I soon figured out I could not continue working at the bedside, I don't see how anybody does. Nursing is such a thankless and disrespected career. I got so tired of being treated like crap. My last nurse manager was a saint. She understood all our frustrations and really advocated for us. I ended up getting my bachelors degree and going into case management. I like it much better. It has it's own headaches that is for sure but I'm not exposed to the continual degrading and belittling verbal and physical abuse. Not to mention constantly being manipulated. God bless you guys that work years and years at the bedside, my hat goes off to you.

Will most hospitals hire a person with a bachelors dgree before a person with an ADN.
I think it is all individual based, some people who have their bsn and all these other degrees can't use the knowledge. They have the credentials but they can't put them to use. It does them no good. Some ADNs just have the skill, the mind set and strive and some just seem to get by. It's the same for BSNs. I think having the degree is irrelevant for the most part. Having a degree does not magically make you a better nurse. Some people just have the time, money, means and the want. Some people don't. It's not a reflection of the quaility of nurse.

Any nurses in therapy?
Not right now, but sure think I could use it. I work 7 12 hour night shift and 7 days off. This past week I have dreaded going back, I have got nothing done just a little house cleaning. I haven't enjoying doing anything I normally do. I know I need an antidepressant but I'm having trouble finding a PCP because I'm not impressed with any of the doctors at the new facility I work at. I just don't feel like doing anything but watching TV and Surfing the internet. I feel so lazy and crappy.

An Associates Degree Isn't A Real Nursing Degree...Vent!!
I just graduated with my BSN in december I was a ADN before with 4 years experience. I am proud that I put the time and effort into it but I didn't learn anything helpful. Nothing about management, nothing new about ethics. I am a little familiar with nursing research but that is about it. I just hope that these 3 magical letters BSN will be some leverage to get me out of the clinical setting that I am so burned out on. I used to be so excited to learn and do new things but my nurse managers were not excited about it nor my coworkers and they have pretty much stomped the life out of me. I am just burnt out to the core. It has pretty much thrown me into depression. I just switched jobs and speciality in August from ICU to ER at a smaller hospital and it's not any better. To much politics and too much stress. You just can't take care of patients that is the last priority on list anymore. I have been doing some research and I'm hoping to make my degree work for me by helping me get into a different area of nursing.
