I'm deaf in 1 ear and partially deaf in the other one. I've had 2 electronic stethoscopes and love them. Each lasted over 5 years. I have a Cardiology III now but my hearing with it isn't very good. Just ordered another electronic one. Giving my Cardiology III to my daughter, a trauma nursing student.

My agency provides case managing RNs, RN clinical supervisor s and QA nurse with cell phones.

Our agency doesn't accept new grads. RNs and LPNs must have a years experience in hospital bedside nursing or LTC experience.

After going thru LPN and ADN, all I can say is hang in there. There will be days you will swear you can't go on and can't go another night without sleep, you'll never understand the difference between cc and ml or how many drops per minute for each drop factor, and can't remember all those symptoms. You will and you will become stronger and a better person and nurse for it. Good luck. BTW, I start in the fall for my BSN. I'm 54 and got my LPN at 28, my RN at 47. So, GO FOR THE GOLD.

I worked at a VA hospital for 12 yrs, 5 on psych unit. We were taught to defend ourselves and not injure the pt, we also had a code red response specifically taught pt takedowns and defense that specifically kept the pt safe. Also, staff have been injured by pt's and sued the pt's, with unions help.

All of our nurses have pulse ox machines in nurse bag. We generally check on soc for a baseline, and then we check every home visit if they have dx of chf or copd, also if any major cardiac issues. These are addressed on 485. So far md's have had no problem. We generally report any sats below 90% to md, unless md gives specific guidelunes.

I can do 2 admits and an SN visit for ROC or a recert in one day. But I also have to have time to audit all admitsand d/c, teach chronic care class weekly, nurse ed, pt ed, go to seminars at least 2x month. So, doing these things are a nightmare at times. Oh, and when on call for the week, usually 3-4 admits on weekend, as well as a few IV's, ROC's, etc.

I, too, took the exam after taking a 2 day course and passed. I agree the course before the test is best.
