  1. I did get the email yesterday. Yes that made me a little nervous as well. I pretty much assumed we had a guaranteed job. But I will remain positive and keep saying the job is ours and it will eventually become a reality. Oh and yes I did say I would be commuting from Charlotte. What about you?
  2. Hi nogames justsports, Have you heard anything regarding your contract? In the email it stated we should be hearing from someone regarding more info on the contract. I haven't heard anything yet so I was checking with you to see if you had any updates....
  3. Check your email, notifications were sent out today. I am a happy camper, I was selected to receive the funding!!! What a way to end the week....Good luck and let me know if you have good news to share as well. I am cheering for you!!!
  4. Hi, I called her last Tuesday and she said they just finished up the interviews (later than she had hoped) and now a committee has to meet to make the decisions. She didn't specify a time frame but she did say decisions should be made soon so hopefully we will know by the end of this week at the latest. It's driving me crazy too!!!!!!!! Keep me posted if you hear something and I will do the same. By the way have you applied for finaid as a back up? I have and they are the worst. They never pick up their phones!!!! When ever I do get someone on the line they say nothing else is needed from me and just to keep waiting. I am getting tired of the waiting game if you ask me lol...
  5. Oh good she told me decisions would be made by this week too. I was just checking to see if anyone got notified early. Well I guess we will just sit tight for another week. Best of luck to you and please keep me updated if you hear anything. I will do the same.
  6. Has anyone heard any news if they were selected to get funded by NC baptist Hospital? I am so axious to find out and I was wondering if I was the only impatient one....
  7. Congrats no games just sports!!! I just had my interview today and I think it went pretty well but I am nervous b/c I don't know how they select candidates. I was under the impression they could fund all students as long as they met the criteria they were looking for in a future employee. By the way the HR lady said there are a total of 47 students in our class. If they only select 30 to receive the funding I wonder what criteria they will use??? I am so nervous, this funding is the main reason I wanted to attend WSSU. I hope as the months progress we learn new information on how everything works around there...Thank goodness for this site for vital info... Bradtmorgan hey there!!! Do you happen to know why the 6-8 students in your class did not get selected to receive funding? Have they shared that info with you? Thanks for all of your insight!!!
  8. Hey Ana, I did get it thank you. I just replied back :wink2:
  9. I also applied to Cabarrus College of Health Sciences for Fall 09, Carolinas College of Health Sciences for spring 10 and Queens for summer 10 their new ABSN program. I got accepted to Cabarrus College but their financial aid package wasn't sufficient enough for me. I did not get into Carolinas College and I am still waiting to hear from Queens. They send out letters in early November. If I get accepted to Queens it might be tempting b/c it is local and I would not have to commute but it's soooooooooooo expensive so WSSU is looking pretty good right about now, especially if I get funded by Baptist. What about you, what other schools did you apply to? I want to keep my grades up too so I plan on not working once the program starts. I have been working in Higher Ed for the past 5 years in the area of financial aid. It was the 1st job I got out of college while I decided what I wanted to do with my life and I never really left except briefly to try teaching HS biology which I quickly decided wasn't for me after 1 year lol...so then I went back into finaid... What was your path after undergrad?
  10. Don't sweat over the missed call. I missed their call also. She left me a message and she also emailed me. I am sure they will call again on Monday or check your email because they may have tried to reach you that way also. I called her back and left a message and then I checked my email and discovered she had also emailed me so I also replied back to that as well. I hope to hear back Monday. (I am anxious just like you ) How funny that our GPA's are identical. It's great to have met a fellow classmate on here and even more awesome that we have all these things in common. I am so excited, I wish orientation was next week lol... So are you currently working? Do you plan on working during the program? I am currently working fulltime in higher ed but I plan not to work once January rolls around.
  11. Concord is right near me. I live in the University area about 5 min from UNCC. Thanks for your reply it looks like we have more in common than I thought. Great. We sound like we are in the same age group as well. I won't ask your exact age but do you fall in the 25-30 range? I do... Oh I want to go into Labor and Delivery or Pediatrics, but I am also starting to get a small interest in surgery also... I want to work my way up to be a Director of Nursing or go into teaching in a nursing program with the hopes of becoming a chair or dean one day. I really don't want to keep going to school considering this BSN will be my 3rd degree but it looks like with my career goals I just might have to. I feel you, this is my last career change I swear lol...What about you, what field of nursing do you want to go into? I hope we pass the interview so we can get funded by Baptist, that is such an awesome opportunity. Have a great weekend!!!
  12. Anabella, CONGRATULATIONS!!! I look forward to meeting you in January. I was reading some of your other posts, do you live in the Charlotte area? I live in Charlotte so if you do also then maybe we can work on some type of carpool if you plan on commuting? If you don't mind may I ask some additional questions? What was your previous degree in? Do you have children/hubby? I have a BS in Biology from 2004 and a M.Ed from 2007. I am married and we have two daughters ages 4 and 7 months. Congrats again, I am so excited.
  13. Hi Bradtmorgan, I have wonderful news. I got my acceptance letter in the mail yesterday. Woo-Who!!! I am so exited to begin in January. How are things going for you lately? In the acceptance letter it stated interviews would be conducted at Baptist to determine if the hospital will fund students for the program. I was wondering if you remember anything from your interview? Are there any tips you can provide on winning them over? Thanks Bradtmorgan, you have been an awesome help and I appreciate the wealth of information you so graciously spared the time to share. Take care and I look forward to chatting with you soon, Gdubb82
  14. Hi NursChar, Congratulations on your admission into Mercy. I was curious what your undergrad gpa was? I had applied there about a year ago but I got denied admission. I have a BS in Biology with a 3.0 gpa and a M.Ed with a gpa of 4.0. My SAT scores werent that great so maybe that's why I was denied. I was just curious what your gpa was so I can get an idea of what would make me more competitive if I ever decide to apply again. I wish you the best of luck.
  15. It's good to hear things are progressing well for you and that you are able to maintain a life outside of classes. That was one of my concerns b/c my husband and I have two small children. Thank you for taking the time to reply and give us a preview of what the program is like. I submitted an application and they said decision letters should go out by October 1st. That's right around the corner, I am so anxious to find out the status. So what is your current class schedule like now? Have you had any saturday clinicals yet? I heard that the program may call for a period of saturday clinicals. When is your expected completion date? Oh and are you on the contract with Baptist? Thanks again for all of your insight and I wish you the best of luck and continued success. Gdubb82:yeah:
  16. Hi PSON, I will be attending the ASN program in spring 2010 at Queens also. Would you mind forwarding me that info sheet that tells you what to expect? Thanks so much:)
  17. Hi TJSbaby, Have you went to the advising session yet? I have my appointment next week on the very last day they were taking them. I made this appointment months ago but I guess they were all booked up. I am curious to know what information they gave you at your advising session? Do you live in Winston? I live in Charlotte so if I get in I would be commuting
  18. Hi Bradt Morgan, I was wondering how clinicals were going? I remmeber in your last post in March you had said you were just begining the clinical component. When you get a chance, I would love to here how your 2nd 10 weeks is going. Thanks and I hope all is well gdubb82
  19. I will be quiting my fulltime M-F day job this august 2009 to begin nursing school fulltime @ Cabarrus College of Health Sciences in Concord. I was wondering if anyone has any contacts or info for CNA, Unit Sec or Registration Rep positions open in the Charlotte or Concord area. I have been applying at both CMC and presbyterian for the past month but I have yet to receive a call back and I am getting nervous about leaving my job if I can't locate some sort of part time position. Please help if you can. Thanks;)
  20. Are there any current students enrolled in the ADN program at Cabbarus College of Health Sciences that would like to elaborate on how the program is? Are there pretty good financial aid packages available? Are you able to work? Are you able to balance family time? Are you at the hospital every day preparing/studying? Can you describe a typical week during your 1st semester? Any insight you would like to share, I would love to hear about it. I just got accepted for Fall 09. I am a second career student. My 1st degree was in Biology so I have all the sciences completed so my course load will consist of primarily just the nursing courses. I am married and have two young children. Thank you
  21. Hey Kemesha, I'm still waiting on a decision from Queens. I spoke to them today and they finally received my last transcript to be evaluated. I was wondering has the financial aid office finalized your award yet. I know you are getting the $10k scholarship but just wondering what the finaid office can offer. Hope all is well,
  22. Hello, I was wondering if any nurse educator can comment on the following: I have a BS in Biology and a MEd in Educational Administration. I am currently applying to nursing school to obtain my BSN. In order for me to become a nurse educator either at a nursing school or in a hospital setting what additional education would I need to persue? Thank you:)
  23. Hi Ellpark, Thank you for your reply. Yes I have spoken to the finaid office but I was just wondering if there were any options outside of what the school can provide that anyone may be aware of. Are you a student there? May I ask where you attend or attended? Thank you:wink2:
  24. Well your proactiveness sure has paid off. I have been researching Queens website as well as spoken to a finaid counselor at the univesity and things are looking up for me as far as finding funding. I'll keep you posted on everything. It's good to know from your experience that the staff is pretty proactive in getting back to students so hopefully I will have the same experience and know something very soon. Wow, we have so much in common. The next thing your going to say is that we have the same astrology sign (lol). We moved here from Maryland 2 years ago. Your right UNCC is extremely competitive to get into and it's also 2 years in length with no option to take summer courses to speed up the program so thank goodness for Queens despite the high price tag but at least we will be done before we know it, just in and out, short and sweet (well maybe not the sweet part, I should say short and intense lol). I have plans to be an NP also. Either Peds or OB and then I want to go on to get my DNP also so I can teach. Or I have even thought about some sort of Hospital administration. I love it b/c there are just so many options for nurses that's why I am so anxious to begin a program. I sometimes wish I would have figured all this out at the age of 18 (lol). So I'm very thankful for programs for 2nd degree students, they are a life saver :redbeathe. Now lets talk about this marriage, girl congratulations!!!! It will be hectic im sure with school but I believe there will be a 3-4 wek break before the fall term begins so you can just woo-saw and take a nice, much needed and deserved honeymoon vacation. You will be on cloud nine :redbeathe One last question if you don't mind, are you familiar w/any hospitals in the area that offer student loan repayment plans as part of your benefits package? Just in case I have to end up taking out quite a bit in loan funds I was just wondering if any hosppitals helped pay them back? Thanks for these chats, I so very much enjoy them:wink2:
  25. Hey QuietMesha, Yeah it's a high penny to pay that's for sure. I meant to type a little over $30k not $40k my hands must have been slippery but thanks for clearing that up for me. Wow that is great you were offered a scholarship for 10k. I wish I would have known about this program eary on so I could have applied sooner and been on the ball like you:wink2:. But hopefully I will be successful in finding other sources of aid that is if I even get in, but I am confident I will. If not then there's always next year right (and then I can really pick your brain for info lol). I really appreciate your reply and all the info you provided. I will be sure to keep you posted on what comes about. Good luck with everything and I hope to meet you one day if I am a selected candidate to start along with you. By the way may I ask a little bit about you? I noticed we are both 26 so we have that in common. My previous degree was in Biology. I have 2 children ages 4 and 1 month and I am married. We live in the University area of Charlotte. What about you? Feel like sharing?? TTYL:wink2:
