Special relationships at work
Thanks so much for your input guys...nurse cubanita I work on a dementia unit in a nursing home. The good news is she is the float nurse and as of yesterday the regular nurse has returned so it helped tremendously. She wasnt too happy to hear of the drama that ensued, but she didn't seem too surprised by it eighter. Well now another unit will get a taste of the drama and we can go back to normal, still it just seems like a shame.

Special relationships at work
Ok here goes. Recently I started floating to a wonderful unit with wonderful nurses and cnas who rock. I come to work and leave with a feeling of accomplishment. About two days ago we had a nurse go on vaction and a nurse from another unit has taken her position. Apparrently this nurse has a history of having very special relationships with the men in the facility and her most recent realtionship resulted in a knock-down-drag-out-argument with her beau. some of the regular cnas and nurses have begun to take sides. Yesterday this said nurse came to me and asked my opinion about her situation and I was at a loss for words as to what to tell her because aside from witnessing the argument I really dont have a clue about their relationship, so I told her I didnt want to make a comment because its none of my business. This situation has definitely become a distraction for those involved and is now becoming a soap opera of sorts for the residents who have witnessed the argument. There is definetly some tension between the folks who have taken sides and i fear it might start taking a toll on the work relationship between the crew. I am anxiously awaiting the regular nurses return. Do you guys think its okay for these relationships to go on at work or should there be a no fraternizing (sp)between staff policy across the board?

omg .. the other nite I woke up thinking I heard a call bell and went into my sons room proceeded to get him up and assist him to the bathroom .....I was yanked back into reality when I heard my husband yell "honey what are u doing?" lol:chuckle:eek::lol_hitti

FED UP CNAS!!!!
:bow: Hats off to all of u....I sooo know about what u guys are going through. I get sent to different units, different facilities on a daily basis and so every day that I work its a different scenario with little to feel happy about. I keep telling myself that at least this all counts to "experience" and once the economy gets better maybe I can shop around for a facility that respects cna..... sadly I fear that this may never happen.

Looking for Pointers from Current CNAs
Hello and welcome!! I will tell you like a RN told me when I first started; It could be snowing outside in the middle of spring and your car breaks down on your way to work and upon arrival you get the hardest assignment on the unit, you have next to nothing supplies and you are working short.....things don't seem as bad if approached with a good attitude and a smile....Good luck!!:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat

What Motivates You to Go to Work Each Day?
Im soooo there with you, I walk past them everyday on my way to and from work cant help but wonder if their lives are easier......but as you say we struggle through it and we will come out smelling like roses. Good luck Girl !!!!!!!!!:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat:heartbeat My motivation is just to have a home of my own where my kids can have their own rooms and I can come home to my own space with peace and quiet. I live with family because of recent layoff. Some days all I can do is look down.

Resident having seizure
I was always told if a person/pt is having a seizure to clear the area of anything that may cause injury, if the pt is in a chair to lower them to the ground and do not try to hold the person down, cushion the head and above everything else do not put anything in the persons mouth. I do not understand why the nurse would try to get the pt to sit up:uhoh3:. Timing a seizure is also important with pt having seizures, if it last more than 5 mins the ambulance should be called and after a seizure the person is put in the recovery position to aid in breathing. Ive never heard of anyone "swallowing their tongue" I beleive that was something folks believed back in the day along with putting butter on a burn:nono:

What do you wash your scrubs with?
I use oxiclean and any detergent with bleach alternative (anything on sale really) I usually strip upon entry to the house and bag my scrubs until laundry day. When I work on a unit with high C-diff volume I soak my scrubs in water and peroxide ( it really whitens my whites and make my colors pop) Man I sound like a commercial...lol

I spoke with the aide today and she tells me she is looking elsewhere for work since she is worried that her speaking up so early in her employment may reflect badly on her 90 day review. I dont know...... on one hand I understand where she is coming from but on the other hand if she doesnt stand up for herself she might be doomed to have the same thing repeated. She is really nice and she helps out others on the floor and she is a very capable aide. I dont undrstand this managers problem with the aide. There are other aides on the floor that are sorely lacking when compared to this girl. I will suggest to her that she should document everything and still file a grievence with HR even if she quits. I understand that this manager has a history of behaving like this but I believe in the old saying...... what goes around comes around.

Hello all. Recently I have been floated quite regular to a dementia floor. I work with another float and regular staff one of whom is brand new. She's been there just as long as I have (3mos). Anyways, she has been the target of harrasment by the nurse manager for that floor. From the moment she started working there the nurse manager was overheard saying mean things about her like she looks goofy and she walks funny. The nurse manager follows her around and double checks her work and checks her pts frequently. She also tells the LPN's on the floor to watch her and report anything this aide does. Up until recently there was no incident just the unprofessional behaviour by the nurse manager but yesterday the aide was called down to the nurse office to be "witten up" for not changing a resident by the time highlighted on the CNAAR sheet, there is a two hour window. This aide has always been given the hardest assignments and we all help her out however we can. Instead of the 10 am change the resident was changed at 10 30. The nurse manager went around and did her regular thing by following this aide and promptly decided that this warranted a write up. Now granted this resident was not really wet and she is alert enough to say she needed changing. This whole thing has made the cna very uncomfortable to the point of quittting. I cant say I blame her. My question is what should this aide do? What would you do in a situation like this if you were witnessing this or was the aide yourself?
