Resident having seizure
Ok so the other night at work one of my residents had a seizure........i grabbed the nurse and she told me to get her a cold towel......so i brought her a towel.....then she started wiping the residents face with it and slapping his face .......then she had me roll up the head of his bed........after the face slapping she droped the side rails and told me we needed to sit him up......im like....he is sitting up....." no we need to sit him all the way up so he doesnt swallow his tounge"......after that i asked her if she was crazy..........the resident had stoped convulsing but he was still breathing funny and his eyes were rolled back in his head.......this resident can not support any of his body weight and i asked her what we were supposed to do if he started convulsing again and we dropped him.........she was like "what do u think we should do?"......I said put him back in bed roll the head down and turn him on his side........oh and lets not forget ...keep the side rails up.........but what do i know im just a cna.......i refused to sit him on the edge of the bed though but im not sure if im in the right.......what should i do if this happens again????? Has anyone ever heard of a pt swallowing there tounge??

PCT/CNA not doing her job.
As a CNA i know that im required to report ASAP to the nurse if i take vitals and they are abnormal..........tell them if they keep it up u will turn them into state for pt negelt......

How do you deal with an insensitive CNA?
Where do u work??? ............I work with aids that have lots of exp 16-20 years........only one of them tries to tell me what to do............and of course i ignore her.......i have to listen to my charge nurse i dont take orders from other aids.......and i dont care how it was done back in the day........and if i ever heard anyone treating a resident like that id turn them into the state........i treat my residents the way i would want my loved ones treated.....it doesnt matter how many years exp u have that doesnt give u a right to be a jerk

Charge Nurse did CNA work. Learned A LOT.
Dude.....just tell them........... " Hey guys can u make sure every ones teeth are out and cleaned and everyone has there booties on? I also need to know about all bruises so i can chart on them"...............no big deal sometimes we get in such a hurry we do forget to do stuff like teeth.......no good aid would get butthurt about being reminded to do something that isnt getting done.......at least thats my opinion

What you'd REALLY like to say....
To the 88lb 92year old man that just got transfered to my building......"You may have one this round , but im training........see u back in the octogon!!".....To the 72year old charge nurse that works nocs with me " You need to be living here not working here....when its to much to give a resident their pain meds and your cna's have to show u have to change your tubing on the feeding pumps ............RETIRE"........To the resident that asks me every 15mins "what time is it?".........Does it matter?? Its 2am ...GO TO SLEEP.

Please Help Me!!!!!!!
Im in kind of the same boat ....i was asked to leave school 1 week befor therory was finished...still left all of peds to do and preceptorship. I contacted the boards...U might want to try taking ur NCLEX using method #3 thats what im going to do.....my schools passing grade was a 70% which i kept ...i got an email from someone who works for the state saying i might have to get a job in ob and peds for 3 months but that they would tell me for sure when i mail in my application...ur education is not wasted...dont believe that...just means that u got to try harder...dont give up!! :wink2:
