I choose to start out as an LPN due to the waiting lists and costs of the program. I wouldnt say the LPN program was "easy" to get into, but it was less aggrevating than to RN programs. Plus once I get my LPN my earning potential increases drastically from an aides pay, and I can work while I get my RN, and possibly get it paid for.

I dont want to sound harsh, but I have to agree with my collegues who say this may not be for you. We all have certain fears when starting anything new, and will death is not something we may want to deal with, it is and always will be part of the job. Anyone working in the medica field has to deal with death in some form. If you dont feel you can overcome your fear/issue, maybe consider another position in the medical field. Dealing with issues like death is part of what makes aides and nurses such angels, not everyone is equipped for this.

Sounds like you may work for the same agency I do, we are certainly in the same geographic area. Anywho yes agency can be frustrating but I do like the changing in assignments, but hate the unpredictibility? of hours. If they didnt cancel you they have to give you show up pay. Some agencies its two hours wages, others its a set rate. In my agency experience you are generally treated badly by the regualr employees, even though you are there to help. The pay is generally better than most full time offers at a facility but you wont get benefits. I think agency is a personal choice. Some people like the changes, others prefer steady assignment with residents they know. I just dont like when agency doesnt call you for weeks then they want you to swoop in at the last minute when someone else didnt show up. I work like month taking assignments within 30 mins of shift start, then they starting acting really funny once I decided I didnt want to work at the prison and then called me to be avaliable right away in the event another aide didnt show up. Yea agency is a trip.

Ok hey everybody Im new here and I wanted to ask current students for some survival advice. I am staring a 12 month program beginning next month in February. Its mon-fri 8-4. Im VERY VERY excited, but to keep it real- IM SO SCARED! I am a CNA or STNA as its called in Ohio for a year now and have worked sub-acute, corrections, home health and long term care. One of our clinical sites was my first job as an aide. But its theory thats making me nervous. Ive been studying my anatomy & physiology, med terms, etc but Im so nervous. Im a single mom of kindergardner and pre schooler. Financial stress is alot of it and trying to figure out how to manage my time? Just wondering what others do? I dont have alot of family support so its kinda just me and the kids.
