Tattoos and Appearance
i work ith this girl that has tattoos and so do i but she was all the time pulling up the myspace page to show every emt and paramedic and firman in ed her stinking tats that is sick ! ihave 3 but they are covered i think as long as you can cover them it will be ok if not they have a product called natural cover for tatoos it covers them and is waterproof peircings are not allowed in the hospitals like they used to be so they wont let you were nose rings or eyebrow rings or lip rings it dont look professional and the hygenic factor is a issue a confused or angered patient could reach up and RIPPPPPPPPPP it out of your face and it has happened in the E.D where i work

Is my inexperience going to make it hard to find a job?
i was a pca with no training and i got lucky i guess it helped knowing my sister worked in the same place shes a rn but when i got in it really made a difference they will help you get all the training you need find good references preferable rns or other people you work for if you cant go that route start out as a home health aide in a agency and put in about 6 months there will be a start and you will more than likely get hired they look for the experience to hire you in a hospital due to the critical care needed dont give up ! and good luck !

Getting a hospital job
if you know people in the hospital espically rns or staff in Hr it helps but the application process is sloooooooooooooow as molasses pcas are hired but they are made to take a stna course upon being hired it is now becoming mandatory to be state certified this way the registry knows if your a nurses aide with a clean history of no abuse and negect it records the date of hire and expiration date as well states if the persons certification is active and no bad reports were left on patient abuse or neglect its by far the best thing when it comes to having taking care of a patient to have the skills , not just come off the street and no knowledge of basic to critial care they will also teach to 12 lead ekg and how to set up telemetry and monitor glucose testing as well some pcas will train as a mst multi skilled tech and they will train you to do blood draws espically if your in cardiac floors or med surg floors Agency work will float you to hospitals to do work on different floors its a good way to get your foot in the door Good Luck angel wings :heartbeat

what was your starting salary as a ..................
mine was 10.60 but i had previous trauma/ortho experience get into hospital work or agency work it pays better i make now around 12.95 on weekdays and 13.50 on the weekends but that is agency work and i have been there 5 years if your a STNA and certified dont settle for less than 9.00 or your getting ripped off , you paid good money to have that degree and you deserve a higher pay if you are not certified they can slap 7.00 at you and you cant do anything about it State Certification espically in Ohio is a must and eventully it will be mandatory for the patients quality care and safety do it not just for you but your patients and you will gain confidence with it too

agency work / the good bad and ugly of it
this month for me was awfull i work at a agency that sends the stnas on float perdium assignments mainly the osu east hospital or the main university hospital i dont mind the travel or the floating , i kinda like the change of pace and you dont have to deal so much with the politics and druma of staying on one floor all the time but it is frustrating! to me when your sent on a assignment and you drive 23 miles out of your way to work and they send you home! we dont get gas reimbursement either! i was just curious to how other nurses and stnas deal with that i love the fact your paid so much more and i love the flexability , but like this hoilday it sucked i had hardly no work so i could not buy 1 present for my daughter that lives in oregon ( shes 23 ) i feel at times we are pulled around by the nose low pay and not enough hours does anyone else feel that way with their agency ? i have been working for them for well over 5 years and still no raise? i dont get that . please let me know how you agency pcas and float stnas feel am i in the lone boat ?
