There won't be any raises this year
Come here.

OK salary and cost of living
Lawton here. If you can find a job in OKC or Tulsa, it's very nice out there. Try there first. Lawton is about the same hring range, same cost of living, but lots and lots of military. It is also a growing town, about 3 hours from Dallas and 1 1/2 hours from OKC.

Texas ====>Oklahoma
Oh yes. The OK Board told me it takes them only 3 days to endorse a license and if it takes longer, it is the Nurses fault, because he/she didn't fill out the paperwork correctly.

Struggle to get license in Oklahoma
Well she came here 21 years ago. She has 2 US licenses already. They have verified her credentials already. I still disagree, there should be a national license. It would make life easier for Travelers particularly and other RN's that are moving as well.

Struggle to get license in Oklahoma
Seriously, I have to steam off right now ....:angryfire I am trying to help a Nurse we'd like to hire get her OK license endorsed. She moved to the US 21 years ago, the CGFNS does not have her records anymore (they only keep it for 10 years), she has been licensed in NY since 1990 and in IN since 1994 and OK does not accept any of that. She has to redo her credential evaluation with CGFNS, which CGFNS told her she will have to activate her foreign license again. What??? I don't get it. I believe there should be a national license and that's it. Aaahhhh

New Grads and Resumes
Thanks for the post. I agree that is what I am looking for as well when I look at resumes. Clinical Rotations should be listed as such, they are not actual work experience. And so far, everybody has been great about removing their personal information from resumes. I agree, it is very important to play it safe on the net. You never know who is lurking out there. Be careful.

New Grads and Resumes
Sure go ahead and send it to me as well. PM me for my email or send resume via pm.

Texas ====>Oklahoma
It will take a long time to get your OK license, be prepared. I've seen an average of 5-6 weeks to get your OK license endorsed. Not fun.

New Grads and Resumes
Hi Maverick, your resume is pretty good, however I agree with ilovenursing2009, ad a little skills. What did you do when you worked and in your rotations? Max of two for a resume is correct, however, if you don't have much experience to show for, keep it at one page. Just my two cents. :)

New Grads and Resumes
Yep, PM is great, I'll send you my email via PM.

New Grads and Resumes
Same here, I'll take a look at your resume if you want me too. I am a Recruiter and look at plenty of resumes every day. :) Also (unless you want me to recruit you) please take off all your personal information from your resume.

broken hearted new grad
Ok, I sent you one, I hope you can get it.

broken hearted new grad
@Snoopy: Hang in there. If you need me to take a look at your resume, send me a PM and I'll get you my email address. I look at so many applications every day, one more won't hurt

broken hearted new grad
Yep, I think I have mentioned this before several times, but here in Oklahoma we need nurses, we hire new nurse and experienced nurses. Until about 1 month ago I still had a sign-on bonus for experienced OR nurses (not anymore, it took me about 3 month to fill my positions). It is difficult to find nurses here, hospitals are still fighting over RN's in OK and I think there are a few places in TX as well.

broken hearted new grad
I agree, if you can move, do it. Texas and Oklahoma are both hiring New Grad's, as a matter of fact, here in OK we still fight over Nurses to hire. And many hospitals here hire New Grads.

Should an RN accept CNA/PCT job for now
Or no nights, only days, Mo-Fr from 8a-5p. However, there are jobs out there for New Grad's, but as mentioned before several times, you might have to move, even if only temporary (e.g. 2 years). Some hospitals (like ours) will not allow you to work per diem as a New Grad, make sure to check into that as well. Flu shot season or snowbird season sound like great ideas to get started and get some experience.

Will be a CNA help me find an RN position?
@Amanda Well the Medical Assistant will let you do more things compared to what a CNA does, but then the CNA gives you the experience on a hospital floor (if you work in a hospital setting) and the Medical Assistant works in an office setting. Either way, I look at it in a positive way compared to new grad RN's that don't have any health care experience. Does that help you any?

Should an RN accept CNA/PCT job for now
Wow, that is a difficult decision. Either way, a Recruiter might look at your resume favourably, because you have worked instead of sitting at home, or, is this RN so bad, that he/she can't even get a job? Can you not move to an area where New Grad Nurses get hired to get your first job, at least for a few years to get experience?

Will be a CNA help me find an RN position?
Actually, my opinion is, that it will help you. If you can manage to keep your CNA job while going to RN school, you should. As previously suggested, maybe you can cut your hours down to help focus on school. We look favourably at an applicant with CNA experience versus one with no experience at all. Plus, lately we have been having problems with new grad RN's that don't want to take patients anymore, but only sit at the desk and do paperwork. I have heard things like "the LPN's take the patients, and as the RN, I will only take 2 patients or so, but the only lighter cases" on Med/Surg units. I think as a RN with CNA or LPN experience, you are much better equipped to understand how the team works together and what it takes to give the patients the best care they can get.

Another qustion on getting hired - are there jobs?
From all I can see it depends on the area you are going to. Yes, there are plenty of places all across the US that don't hire anymore, but there are still a few that do...but you have to be willing to relocate.

How do I get involved in Alternative/Holistic nursing?
Oh I am sorry, I just re-read my comment and it came out wrong. I'd like to do an alternative program myself, but haven't found an accredited program besides the ND school which I can't do. I grew up with alternative/holistic/naturopathic medicine, my mom is a naturopathic practioner for over 25 yrs now (federally licensed by the wa, but different country different story). I grew up seeing what it can do and how "western" medicine is fighting it all the time. It's amazing. If accepted though, it can be a superstrong combination to help so many people. She has sent people off to be treated by western medicine, for surgeries etc. She has found many people that have been mistreated and had them diagnosed correctly and receive the proper treatments. It's about finding the root of the problem. Don't think herbs and water cures is alternative medicine. It goes beyond that, but there are so many alternative practioners that give it a bad reputation. And it requires a true calling, because you will constantly be belittled.

How do I get involved in Alternative/Holistic nursing?
Which are? Accredited? Licensed? Certified? I couldn't find much besides a ND. I will start a holistic practioner program in Germany in a little while, but I'd like to know what programs are offered in the US?

There won't be any raises this year
That type of open communication would be a blast! I'd love to see that, I believe if people understand why certain things are happening, they are more inclined to stick it out. If the why makes sense, that is.

Relocating to Lawton
Anyhow welcome to Lawton (soon) and I hope you will find a nice apartment soon!

"TIME BACK" vs. Overtime $$ pay
Well, I really have noticed compared to my home country, that the labor laws aren't really very employee friendly. That is sad. A lot of people get ripped off working. Sometimes a union is what it takes to improve the situation for employees.
