  1. Yes it is intro to bio or Bio 110. It is a pre-req before I can get into A&P and other sciences. I am struggling but I guess I just have to keep on truckin!! Thanks again
  2. Thanks for your advice. It really feels as if she is weeding people out and that is really sad. I don't know what is going to happen but if I don't pass this class I could lose my pell-grant and be on academic probation If by midterm I am still struggling I will probably drop the class and take it again with a different instructor......I guess. Thanks again.
  3. Wow thank you everyone!! You all gave such good advice. I suppose I could try a different method of studying or join a study group :nuke: Either way, I am definitely going to keep trying. Thanks again
  4. I have about half of my pre-reqs done and I am taking my time with the sciences because I really want to get good grades. I also have a child and work full-time so I am pacing myself. I am currently taking Biology 110 and I am having a hard time. I study for texts and quizzes but I am not getting the grades I thought I would. I go into it thinking I know what is going to be on the tests but then I get the test and my professor makes the questions all twisted and tricky . It is really frustrating and I am starting to lose confidence because if I can't get through basic biology how will I survive A & P, Microbio, or Path????? I have not missed a single class and I am an actively participating student Does anyone have advice on how to study or has anyone ever dropped a class to have a different professor?? I went to ratemyprofessor.com and almost all the student comments about this professor sound the same. Help???
  5. No problem. For starters I would contact admissions to see what classes you could take ahead of time. Check out www.Chamberlain.edu The one thing I could see being a problem is getting all of those pre-reqs in before the start date. Also, the spring session at ECC already started so you would have to wait until the summer and fall sessions. I checked the website and it doesn't look like they have an LPN program Depending how many classes you take each semester will determine how long it takes you to finish you pre-reqs. For some people it takes two or three years especially if they have other obligations like work or families or both! How did you do in high school? Did you take you ACTs? It's took me a while to get classes out of the way as I work full-time and have a child :heartbeat. There is an entrance exam you have to pass before being accepted to Chamberlain. Email me your email address and I will forward you a really helpful study guide :typing. [email protected]
  6. Hi I am in the enrollment process at Chamberlain for the July start. I do have some of the pre-reqs already done from my associates degree (not the sciences). They have ASN, BSN, and RN to BSN bridge programs. I also live out your way and Addison really is not that bad of a drive. I have chosen the 3 year BSN program. If you have no pre-reqs I would reccommend taking some (psyc, sociology, speech, english) before hand. For example, at ECC, since you are in district, it will cost you $91 per credit hour. At Chamberlain it will cost you $546 per credit hour!! Even though it'll take a little longer, in the long run you'll save thousands and probably be a little better prepared since you have not attended college. The deadline for July is March 15th. The also have an October start. Let me know if you have anymore questions :nuke:
  7. Right I understand MOST programs work that way. However, this particular school is a school focused just on nursing so they allow students to incorporate general classes in with the program. They check a students GPA from high school or previous college as well as their ACT scores. There is an aptitude test that you must score well on to get accepted into the program. It is a fully accredited school and program with great reviews from many previous and current students. I agree it is very competitive to get in but not ALL schools do their entrances the same. Thanks anyway
  8. Hi I just wanted to ask you if you took all the pre-req courses before you began the BSn or if you did it with the nursing classes. I ask because I am undecided if I should stay at a community college and finish as many as possible (it'll take me forever) or if I should just go for it and start at Chamberlain with only some pre-reqs done. What was the path you took and how is it working for you? Thank you very much :redbeathe
  9. wow thank you. i definitely take this all into consideration. i really would just like to begin the program because i am so excited!!!!! of course i have that little voice in my head telling everything you all said lol. when i look at the first year it does not seem all that bad? (i posted it above) what do you think?

  11. I am undesided if I should spend the next two years taking pre-req courses at a local community college (A &P, Micro, Path etc) I have some out of the way but I really just want to get started in the program. The school I plan on attending has a really nice program where I can take pre-reqs in with core classes. I know I would save money but it'll take me ANOTHER 2-3 years in addition to the 3 years the BSN alone will take me to finish. Is anyone in the same situation?
  12. Wow thank you. I am in the same boat when it comes to gpa. I was actually was considering taking my pre-reqs at ECC just to save some money and improve my overall GPA!! I also bombed my high school ACTS from 10 years ago . My appointment is Thursday at 11:30 am with Josh in admissions. I'll keep you posted on if I get accepted! Please let me know how you like school when you start. Thanks again and best wishes :heartbeat
  13. I was wondering if anyone has information about this school? I spoke with admissions and they do not have a waiting list so all I would have to do is pass an exam and I can start in July. The school is in Addison which would be perfect for me However, I know it is a new campus so I am a little speculative about how easy it is to get in. There are no pre-reqs except you have to have held a GPA of at least 2.75 or higher in all previous college. Does anyone have any advice or info about his school? Any personal experiences? Thank you! :heartbeat
  14. Hi I am looking into the onsite BSN program at Chamberlain. How did you like the program? Teachers? How prepared for the NCLEX were you? Any info would be really appreciated :heartbeat Thanks!!
  15. Nicely done !! Did you get your BSN? I am planning on transfering to a 4 year. I am now remembering how tough the sciences are. I just need to stay positive and push through. I am only able to go part time for my pre-reqs because I also work full-time, have a child, a fiance and a household to run . It is difficult to find study time. Keep me posted on how your first job goes. I'd love to hear all about it. Take care
  16. Hi everyone, I just started my pre-reqs and I have to eventually take the NLN exam before I apply. I have been taking the practice test in the study guide and I am freaking out because I am scoring horrible on the tests!! Did you guys begin this way also? I need some words of motivation At my college they only allow you to take it twice in a single year so if I don't do well it'll post-pone my being able to apply. Any advice on good study tips? (FYI - I heard it was similar to the ACTs?) Is that true? If so I did awful on those too!! Help!!!!!!!1
  17. Wow thank you very much. I am in district which I think will be helpful. I will definitely aim for ECC over NIU but I will try both JIK. I will keep you posted though!!! Thanks again
  18. Hi I am taking my pre-reqs at ECC and will apply for the program by next August for Spring of 2010. I am stressing out about the NLN entrance exam. Was it hard? I have the study guide but I am doing horrible at my practice tests! What were your grade like when you got accepted? Waiting list? Sorry to bombard you with so many questions but I don't know anyone else that has attended this school. How is the program going? I am also considering applying for NIU's nursing program just in case (although I would not really enjoy the long drive!). Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you :)
  19. How did you all do on your entrance exams? I purchased this book called NLN Pre-Entrance Exam study guide and have been taking these practice tests to prepare. Now I have never thought of myself as 'dumb' or 'inadequate' when it comes to grasping things but I am doing awful on these practices tests. It is really making stress out about doing bad on the exam expecially since you can only take it twice in one year. So I looked up NIU's admission requirements and I have to take this reading test for that program as well and once again I am taking these practices tests and failing!! In my heart I believe I would make a wonderful nurse but to be honest, everytime I see how bad I do my confidence just shortens a little more each time . They base so much on these tests and frankly I have never been a very good test taker. Any advice? Does anyone have studying strategies that they have found to be beneficial? Thanks in advance
  20. Ok I am also considering doing this while in school. I have heard over and over again that NS is extremely intense I have (like the rest of you) bills to pay to survive! How do you go about doing this? I imagine when I am ready to apply I will contact the schools FA department and figure it out. Ugh! School is so expensive! :uhoh21:
  21. I am the same way. I really think my family is fed up with me deciding to do this and then that. The positive aspect is that I can honestly say I learned a lot while bouncing around trying to figure it out. Then you meet those people that seem to have it all figured out and get it all done right away blah blah blah!! LOL :chuckle
  22. Wow thank you all!!! I really feel better about it. If all goes well I will apply next Feb and begin the program in August of 2010 I'll be 28. Best of luck to you all in your careers as nurses! XOXO
  23. Wow thank you for posting this. I am 26 and scheduled to start my pre-reqs next week for the BSN. The thought of not finishing until I am 30 scares me. I have a daughter that is 4 years old and she will be 8 by the time I'm done. After reading everyones post it really encourages me to go forward with it. I have been in corporate, real estate, restaurants, retail but have been so unsatisfied with them all. I just feel so confused.
  24. Thanks. How is the program so far? Have you decided what you want to specialize in? Arey ou in class with a lot of younger students? I initially wanted to do the ASN program at a community college but the program is so small that people with 4.0s and all pre-reqs are being put on the waiting lists. That is why I thought the BSN at a university might be easier. It will take me a solid 3 to 4 years. My daughter wil be 8 by the time I am done! Hopefully I will get into the ASN program :wink2:.
  25. Alright, I am very new to this so please bare with me. I have gone back and forth for years now about going into nursing. Finally, after driving my family and boyfriend crazy about what I want to do with my life, I decided to finish my pre-reqs for the program this year and apply next fall. I have worked in the corporate world, real estate, a restaurant early on, and have always felt very unfulfilled with my jobs. I have always been drawn to nursing because I am a true mush ball and love helping, caring, :heartbeat being sensitive, and working hard. I am 26 now and will be 27 in June. After doing a lot of research about acceptance into programs, experiences, etc, I realize it is something I REALLY would love to get into. My question to anyone is do you think I am too old to JUST be starting pre-reqs? Seriously, I can't apply until Feb 15th, 2010 only to begin the program the next session. I'll be 30 by the time I'm done . And that is assuming I am not put on an insanely long waiting list. Anyone else starting at my age or older? If so how did it go? Pros/Cons? Thanks, XOXO
