  1. I was thinking, what if I took a MSN in Gerontology Nursing/ Leadership or "something" and go back to get a "Post Master's" in NP after when I am a little more financially secured to relocate. What do you folks think?
  2. :) I actually work at the Naval base now, I know a few DNPs, NPs, and MDs that are willing to precept me. A few visits isnt really a problem but a majority of the universities Ive spoken too arent even willing to let me apply because where I'm at. Am I doing this right?
  3. Hello All, To start off, I want to be an Adult/Gero NP. I have done all my research and the only thing that's stopping me is where I'm at...GUAM, a US territory. Ive looked everywhere! No school wants to take me on because of where I live. I cannot afford to relocate. Anyone have suggestions of schools that I might have missed? I need a school that: 1. Is completely online. 2. Willing to let me take clinicals on Guam, even if I have to find preceptors myself 3. No GRE/GMT/MAT 3. Will let me start soon! Please help, im getting so discouraged. Thanks!
  4. Hello, Ive come here hoping for some advice regarding my little predicament. I'm a US licensed nurse, born and raised in the US and have completed most of my education here except for the last two years of college which I finished in the RP. Ive always wanted to join the military but I've also come to terms, after all the research and meeting w recruiters, I wont be able to join as a commissioned officer and my best bet would be an enlistee, and even w that I wont be able to practice nursing, so an enlistee w the Airforce Reserves seems to be where I'm looking at right now. My question is, how should i start preparing, should i be afraid it's always the boot camp that's been discouraging me from joining before now, how is it during training and you a girl w "girl problems"...am i making a mistake? Going back to school is not an option for me since I want the military to pay for it, im not in a position to be paying off school and waiting til then. The military recruiter here suggest i go back to get an "american" BSN before going in...Any advice would be nice, tnx
  5. i dont understand...
  6. Summary: i work full time at a local hospital and part time at a correctional facility, i found that working at the cf more financially rewarding, less stress, and better working environment, i stay at the hospital for the skill set they offer. my dilemma is that while the cf is offering me a more permanent and full time position, it wont happen for a while and i hope to change my status in the hospital to parttime, for personal reasons; my problem is that if i pull through w my plans ill have two part time jobs and no health insurance to cover my behind, i need advice is what i could do...are there outside health/retirement insurances/plans that i can get? newbie nurse, and super noob to the work force, any advice would be of great help.
  7. yes...fortunately the pt didnt have a reaction or anything.
  8. I'm in need of some advice...i'm a newbie nurse, 3 months young, and I've already made two med errors! all in the same night! I feel terrible and terribly depressed. i got written up for both.i spoke w my supervisor about it and she's told me the write ups were for "education purposes" and that i shouldn't think about it too much...BUT that three "pink slips" (as they're called) would warrant a write up! write up to where i dont know. i'm scare stupid now, for my license and not to mention my job. i love my job in the er even with all the vultures around me... fyi the med errors were: giving toradol 60 mg iv rather than im, no harm done to patient, even got discharged w no pain and md notified, he said no harm and even took the blame since his order spelled out iv instead of im. and giving rocephin 2gm ivp, i got confused since the pt was in an emergency setting and all and it slipped my mind (not an excuse, i know), again no harm done to pt or adverse effect noted. please advise me, idk what to do, my record's been tainted already and ive hardly even started, im so afraid to go to work now, im actually dreading going to work tomorrow because of all of this.
  9. Dededo Good Luck on your exam, I hope you get a hold of these nursing review "centers" on our tiny island:lol2:
  10. no problem! by the way where are you on island?
  11. as far as i know, the there is a review at the University of Guam nursing college around May or June with a donation and theyll let you join the review of the graduating seniors. I also saw a flier at the licensing office of an RN offering a full on NCLEX review for 300 too, i dnt know too much since i just glanced at the flier. u should call them as ask for the details. sorry, here, only about 25 bsn nursing students graduate every year so a review center isnt a very profitable business also since they have their own review at school.
  12. I called PearsonVue and i asked them about my problem; turns out, anyone taking the NCLEX out of the continental United States much call to schedule an exam, only those within the United States may schedule online.
  13. hi and hello...i need help in scheduling my exam...ive been trying to schedule my exam online for the last two days but to no avail because the only country available is 'United States' and my 'country' should be Guam. Guam in not in the drop down menu and even after trying to pull out guam from the 20 nearest centers from hawaii i still cant get it. Id like to try to register online before i call the center to schedule...any ideas how i can register online?
  14. What are you supposed to feel after taking the NCLEX? A lot of posters here say they felt like they failed and did terrible and it seems like the accepted feeling is that one must feel like they failed to have passed. i know this thread seems trivial but i just wanted to know if feeling good after the exam may not be a bad thing either? any thoughts from nclex takers and passers?
  15. hi to all and if you're reading this i sincerely hope you can help me with my problem...I just recently graduated from my nursing program, reviewing intensively, and ready to take the NCLEX soon. Hx: I was dropped from my former (1st) nursing program due to some issues with my professors there and because an escalated lie anyways...I was dropped for unvalid reasons:eek:. Moved to another nursing program and was blessed to have graduated.:redpinkhe Problem: I am applying to take the NCLEX now to my local BON and everything when while I come across this part of the application if i had been dropped, requested to resign, probation'd etc. of any post-secondary institution and if yes to explain myself in detail and failure to disclose the necessary information could render a denial of my application. No brainer, I have no choice but to tell the truth. Question: is there a possibility that i would be denied to take the nclex if i do disclose the information? has anyone been denied to take the test due to something similar to this? my criminal records are clean and transcripts complete it's just my past coming back to haunt me...help! any advice how to go about this would be wonderful! thanks!
  16. any suggestions for schools would be greatly appreciated. personal references is a lot better than the sugar coated websites that the internet offers. also former transferees' input would be love!
  17. ^ july is fine. the goal is to finish with my BSN by 2010. i just need to know somewhere i can transfer without being delayed. please help for those with kind hearts or knowledgeable minds...or since we're all (student) nurses....both. please.
  18. as the title says, i want to move to melbourne to finish off my nursing program here in Guam, USA because of personal problems. my question is...are there any schools in melbourne that will take my nursing credits and allow me to graduate on time (2010) with my BSN. i dont care about going to a fancy school, just a school with good instruction and kind transferee admissions would be great. thank for any help any kind soul would be willing to extend my way. thanks.
  19. im in my third year of nursing but due to certain circumstances i have to move, mind you my grades are fine, but i do need to move but i also dont want to be behind in my studies if i do move nor start over. i need to move to california or hawaii or even the philippines and if anyone knows any school that transfers nursing credits or accepts transferring nursing students in the states? please help me, time is running out and i might not have a school to go to if i dont enroll soon! please help!
  20. hello, i have a fetal and maternal development presentation for peds/ob coming up and my group is slated to present fetal and maternal development for the 24th-32nd wks of pregnancy. and were going to do a powerpoint and i need some pictures, animations, or information about this. i have most of my material but if any one is willing to off hints of where to find pictures and animations to make my ppt a lot more interesting...it would be greatly appraciated. thanks for any help in advance.
  21. not defensive, but rather utmostly stressed...imagine needing a 104 on a 100 item exam just to pass while blindfolded. the student's situation is rather different from what most in this website will be able to comprehend because where the student is from there is only one university withing a 3000mile radius and after that radius is all ocean and is so far into the program...just three more semesters!
  22. i apologize for confusing some of you, but the true story is what i described in my previous post. it involves talking in class which in defense is trying to discuss the subject matter with other students and which is not out of the ordinary yet the student is the only one being persecuted for doing so, expressing stress over exams, an incident where a CNA reported the student for not doing her job for her when in fact the CNA refused the student's help, and the thing with the nurses' station. :crying2: as of now the school doesn't have a justification to dismiss or suspend the student. the student was not even given a warning about the student's behavior, verbal or written, nor was an agreement reached between both parties outline the circumstances and the plan to execute to better the student and possible consequences for any further infraction. and i though advancement in the program meant grades, which the student excels in and which the faculty recognize:yeah:. the student is considering taking judicial action, the student just needs to know if it is doing the right thing .
  23. nope, it did not include anything that you said. no personal matters dicussed either other than expressing some stress with up coming finals' week.
  24. come to think of it, (1) there were no discussion of student behavior, rather we were automatically expected to behave a certain way and that was it and i just went over the syllabus, there is no guideline for behavior (2) the incidents include talking out loud about our feelings and showing a fellow official nursing student around (and away from) the nurses' station (no patient confidentiality was breached nor meds touched), this student was to have her rounds in this ward after my group was done...all of which occured outside of the clinical time. the student was NEVER given a warning and out of the blue the student was told about the student's "behavior problem" and no my school does not have a remediation program, my school has been graduating students since before i was born yet they still have yet to improve their program. and no the mistakes were not of the same nature.
