  1. I read your story and I feel really bad for you. That hospital must be terrible. What about travelling nursing? they paid great, pay all your expenses and you could save money to pay for your house and son. It is a sacrifice, but due to the circumstances is worth the try. Good luck!!
  2. Hi, can you tell us what type of questions they asked you in the interview for ER at Parkland? A friend of mine has his interview in ER in another hospital and I would like to have some idea so I can tell him. Thanks! and good luck!:)
  3. Did you go to the interview? If so, how was it?
  4. What do you mean that some hospitals are pretty rough? can you tell which ones? Thanks!!
  5. Thank you very much for your reply, you are right when you mention about to improve therapeutic communication since that it is what I am trying to do everyday since I work in the hospital, and at the same time I am looking for a med/surg job in a different hospital. :)

Somebody knows how are the benefits and the start pay for a new graduate?
  7. Sorry to hear you did not pass, I know the Nclex is a test that you can't explain. I passed the first time with 75 questions. I did not work while preparing for the Nclex and I just focused on that. I did watch the Hurst review and I printed the book that comes with it, I think that it was great to remember stuff from nursing school that I did not remember and I did watch the videos twice. Also, I did use the Lacharity book that has a lot of priority and delegation questions and I think that it helped me with the delegation and priority questions from Nclex. My test was mainly focused on priority questions like what patient would you see first, but you need to know as well the medical stuff to made the decision. I also used the Cram book with the questions that comes with 5 tests with 250 questions each, I found the first test easy but the other ones were not and the good thing is that the questions make you think and open your mind. I have some friends that paid for Kaplan and few of them passed others not. The people that passed some of them told me that was because of Kaplan, others told me that it was a waste of money and they were passed without Kaplan. Personally I think that is an individual decision and if you have the extra money to pay for that I would pay for the questions bank only. I also paid for 3 weeks online NCSBN http://learningext.com that was $50 and the questions they have I think were harder than Nclex, but I thought that 3 weeks was not enough since this program has too much stuff like content and questions, so at the end I focus in the questions mainly. At the beginning I did not know what to do to prepare for Nclex, I have the Saunders and I did the calendar, but I was not able to follow and I got tired and bored and the questions in Saunders are much easier than the other stuff I used. Finally, I think that you need to know the content first and then start doing tons of difficult questions, so when you take Nclex again it will be so easy, I just wish you the best and good luck!!!!
  8. Can you send me the email too? Thanks!
  9. Hi Kia, I checked the website but it shows that the position is PRN or On Call and do not pay benefits. Can you tell me if this is true?
  10. Thank you very much for your answers, I guess I will stay there for a while until I can get a job in other hospital, but I think that as a new experience is great since in other hospitals I will not have the opportunity to see too many psych cases.
  11. I am a new grad that wanted to go to a med/surg area, but found a job in a psych hospital instead. I do not really liked it, but I am taking it as a new experience and I am keeping my mind open to learn something new. I am still trying to find a job in a med/surg area in another hospital but it is so difficult for a new grad to find a job without any experience. My question is if having experience in a psych hospital would it be considered experience to get a job in a regular hospital? thanks!!
  12. I would love to go because I love the show and that day is my birthday so it would be a wonderful gift for me. The only problem is that I would have to go alone and I don't have a group. I would like to know if somebody is having a group where I can fit in.
  13. Thank you so much to all for your reply. I have a better idea now about what ICU is and of course I know that just being out of school as a new nurse is not much what we can do without the proper training. I am much confident now after reading all the postings that I really want to be an ICU nurse. Thanks to everybody for the postings.
  14. Thank you so much for your feedback, I think that this specialty is a wonderful way to show that nurses are there to support people in their most difficult times, and I definitely I will go for ICU.
  15. I am seriously considering ICU to start my nursing career because all of the wonderful things I have heard, and it is a challenging job, and I love to study and learn new things all the time. At the same time, it is a very stressing place to work and I don't know if that is a good thing for a new nurse. I would appreciate if I have some feedback from new nurses and experienced nurses :)
  16. Thank you for your reply, I can see that it was very difficult, but I am a new graduate nurse and this is for a residency, so I hope they don't start asking me very difficult questions since I don't have any experience.
  17. Hi, congrats!!!. I would like to know what kind of questions did you had since I have an interview in two weeks in SICU and I want to be prepared. I will be interviewing with leadership from the unit like 5 people and then with peers. Thanks!
  18. I went to the website and I put that code and the price was the same it did not change, even I put my personal information and they did charge for shipping at the end the total was like $88. Was it that what you paid? if not the coupon is not working. Thanks!
  19. Thanks so much for the list, I think that it will help. Again congrats!!!!
  20. Congrats!!! you passed. Can you tell me where is the list that you mentioned that is posted here to help you to study? I do not know what list are you talking about since I can't find it. I appreciate it if you tell me where it is. Thanks!
  21. I used Fundamental Success by Nugent Vitale for fundamentals of nursing. It is a great book and you can practice questions according your chapters. The book is divided in chapters that are similar to the fundamentals of nursing, so you can practice in the book when you finish reading chapters and has questions only. The other book that is very good as well is Nursing Fundamentals reviews and rationales by Mary Ann Hogan, it gives you a review before you take the test and it has a cd as well with more questions. What happens is that sometimes you understand the material better in other books than in the text book. The other excellent books as well are the Straight A's and you have a great variety and what you can do is to go to the bookstore to shop around and see which one you like better or feel more comfortable with and then order it online, I ordered mine from Amazon because these books are a kind of expensive and you can get a better deal online, just shop around. Good luck!!!
  22. Thank you very much for your ideas, I will definitely focus in mother/newborn father/newborn bonding and the overall situation. Appreciate your input.
  23. Thanks for your input, I am trying to figure it out what I will do during the day, but I am pretty sure that I will love it since I love babies!!
  24. I have my postpartum rotation in two days and I have to fill some papers, I will do vitals, etc. but I need more ideas in what else can I do. I have to choose two patients, one with lady partsl delivery and the other one with C-section, but I will chose them the same day so I do not have much time to prepare much. If someone with a good experience in postpartum can help me and give me options or advice, I will appreciate it a lot!!! :)
  25. On the left column you have 1423/J1 and is over 2504. If you do not have this part and if you are a first semester student you have to complaint and ask today at orientation about this situation because the 2504 is for second semester students. I do not have the NLC since I am going to ECC, but do not worry I am sure you will find somebody from NLC that has all the forms and can email them to you. :wink2:
