And secondly, my first comments on this post were about my own personal experiences with bullying that included nurses eating their young, and mentioned how jealously can play a factor in bullying. Jealously along with power and control, any many other things. Nurses eating their young, backstabbing, humiliation, ignoring, gossip, purposely setting others up for failure, are just a few examples of BULLYING = which you don't get. I am firmly standing my ground. The end.

Ya, you probably thought I was talking about how I think you guys are bullying me... haha um no. I was referring to all the bullying that occurs with nurses in the workplace. What I am getting at is that you don't think that nurses eating their young (or even young eating the old) is a form of bullying, and you also think that a new nurse isn't being bullied when another nurse totally ignores her and is rude/unhelpful...just to give a few examples. Yes that is bullying people. Bullying just isn't the violent type. It is emotional/verbal/actless abuse! So, with that I find no compassion / care in nurses bullying other nurses.

Oh my. I am referring to the general nursing population who has/have/or witness/witnessed bullying occur in the workplace. There is no compassion / no caring in the world... when a person bullies another person in the workplace. Not good for the patients as well!

When nurses bully other nurses, there is no compassion or care about it.

There are many different types of bullying - many in forms of physical, verbal, emotional abuse. Bullying can have an affect on all ages. I was just making a point in regards to bullying, because it is a very serious issue. Some people including you act like emotional / verbal abuse isn't at all a form of bullying. It is.

yeah, why don't everyone take this advice...., WoW. Just wow. It's no wonder you hear on the news of kids in school committing suicide because of bullying. And no, it's not all because a person has been physically abusive, it can also be simply because of emotional / verbal abuse. Unfortunately, bullying continues in adulthood. Now on to my point with what statistics showed that was first posted, it's NO WONDER why "sixty percent of new nurses quit their job within the six months due to the behavior of their coworkers." All nurses should just support one another.

Secondly, what about the young new nurses who are mean for no reason? Do you consider that bullying? Yes I do consider young new nurses who are mean for no reason as a type of bullying also. However, I did not experience that type. Here is what I have experienced (from what I remember) I remember in nursing school, a nursing instructor kept downgrading me and saying that I will never make it because I did have a hard time test taking and school was difficult for me. And no I am not saying I am at all miss perfect because if you look at my past posts from years back, I have been through a really tough time when I was in school. Almost on the verge of quitting several times. Actually here is an exact quote back from a 2008 post, my first post actually..... """"I hated my med-surg class, and taking that with pharmacology was difficult..... after about 2 months into med-surg, i was so frustrated, into tears literally... i talked to my professor about it, but she just felt so intimidating...i was doing bad in that course and you know what she said to me? was that "maybe you have a learning disability".....do you know how much that brought me down??? so much..so so much. I'm thinking to myself, "how the heck could i have a learning disability when in high school, i got all A's and B's, and all my pre req courses i completed i got A's,B's, and a couple C's.....and worked my butt off." Hearing that from her made me want to give up all of what i worked for over the past 2 years... I dont know, something about nursing instructors i don't get, i don't get why they are intimidating, rude, and make students feel miserable.... it aggravates me. Here is one from my first LPN job: My first assisted living LPN job I experienced nurse bullying with another LPN who has been working for quite a few years. Previously, I had an incident with her when I asked her to look at a resident who was having chest pains (because I was brand new I just wanted a second opinion from a more experienced nurse), and the lady barked at me, telling me that she was about to leave and NO, she was not going to help me by doing that. However, she did catch herself and ended up helping me but was extremely rude about it. I thought about telling the boss at that point but I didn't. Another incident also happened with this nurse. A family member was going to take the resident to the doctor due to an emergency. I got all the paperwork ready and I was also training a MA at the time, so the MA offered to get the wheelchair and helped get the resident to the car....... well this bully nurse walked by me (sees what I am doing), and later goes to the boss and says that the trainee and I were just sitting back at the nurses station, not helping the resident or family member at all. Totally false accusations. I got asked to go to my boss's office to talk about what had happened. I told the boss that was lie. I felt helpless because how was I going to prove that it was a complete lie. Well, then this nurse walks into the bosses office at the time I was in there. The boss approaches her about this telling her that I said this all was completely false. The nurse says "ummmm oh ok" and leaves. The boss looks at me with a dumbfounded look like, "what just happened" and then the boss is realizing her facts weren't right, and it was a lie. The boss also said this nurse tends to belittle other staff. Other types of bullying: I also experienced a "more experienced older lead nurse" training me the very first day on the job and expected me to know everything, wasn't helpful at all, and was extremely rude. I also want to point out that she made things extremely unfair in the workplace and showed favoritism to other employees. I am not going to go into detail about that. I have also had a nurse completely ignore me like I don't exist when I have asked them for help. But I must apologize in my first post because I do know that bullying can occur with both younger and older nurses. I also want to say I think many older more experienced nurses are great. This whole post is about "nurse bullying"...and I was only referring to the nurses who are bullies. I am not talking bad about every single older nurse... however, from my experiences it just happened to be more experienced older nurses whom I have had cases of bullying. Bullying is a serious issue. And remember, you have no idea what a person has truly been through unless you have been in their shoes.

Well, write what you want, but bullying can happen because of jealously for whatever reason and most times it is. Why else would people bully one another??? Why? It doesn't matter if it is in a nursing setting, school setting, bullying happens everywhere. This is a "nurse bullying topic" and I wrote 3 examples of nurse bullying that happens to be of an older nurse eating their young. I did not and never meant to upset older nurses. When I meant of retire, I meant of the ones who are down right mean for no reason at all, the ones who are bullies. This topic really holds a special place in my heart because I have seen it happen, not only in nursing but look at the rest of the world. Bullying has a huge effect on people. I get along great with older nurses. BUT there are some that get be down right nasty to brand new nurses ... which is a form of bullying.

Can you then explain to me why the phrase "nurses eating their young??" If you even google on this forum you will see many things about it! And depending on the circumstance, it can be a huge form of bullying.

Like I said previously, I stand up for new nurses 100 percent and always will no matter how old I get. And also like I said previously, treat others how you would want to be treated. It CAN BE a cruel world in the nursing profession. If anyone has been targeted or has been one of those new nurses who were bullied, then you would understand. You have no idea what people have been through. Again, BULLYING is not something to take lightly... no matter what circumstance.

Look, I don't have a problem with older nurses. I am friends and get along with many older nurses, and I am not trying to talk badly about them as it may have seemed. I just gave you 3 examples of what I have experienced with when it comes to nurse bullying and they just so happen to be older nurses who eat their young. I did not go into detail on how they have bullied me but I do not take this lightly. It is obviously a huge issue in the nursing profession. You can google it and type it in the search bar and you will get thousands of examples of nurses eating their young. I most def. will back up new nurses no matter how old I get. I will always remember starting that brand new job fresh out of nursing school and it was terrifying. I believe nurses (NOT ALL) who have been in the workplace for quite some time get a joy out of seeing brand new nurses scared to death. I have been there and I have witnessed it with other new nurses starting out. It is such a shame to see how other nurses act towards the new nurses. And i am sorry to say but some of it CAN be jealously. It can! I am not saying it is the ONLY factor (sorry i did not mention that in my previous post). Jealously is just another motive for nurses to bully other nurses. A nurse who goes "above & beyond" can be a threat to other nurses. Nurses in the workplace can be fearful of their positions when a new nurse is able to muli-task or is better at technology just to give a couple examples. This is just what I have experienced and what I have also witnessed in the nursing profession. It is very very sad to see this in the nursing profession. Where is the compassion in nursing and treating others how you would want to be treated. If any young nurses out there have been bullied or treated poorly, please please please stand up for yourself!

Nurses who "eat their young" is another form of bullying. Verbal bullying, and it should not be tolerated. I see phrase "eat their young" SO much on this forum. It is a HUGE issue in the nursing profession.

I have experienced nurse bullying on numerous occasions. The ones that I remember are: 1. An old nurse educator when I was in nursing school. 2. Old nurse at an assisted living facility. 3. Old nurse in a clinic setting. And probably more that I cannot recall at the moment. All three are old nurses who liked to "eat their young" as you may already know that term. I think to myself how immature they are compared to me (even though they are 30+ years older than I am). Bottom line.... the reason they are like that is because of pure jealously. Old nurses do not like when a younger nurse comes in the workplace for numerous reasons. Many of them def need to retire. Just my two cents :)

I got scared and rescheduled this test like 6 times now but i finally got guts and took the nclex pn today and i ended up getting 85 questions and it took me about an hr to complete... i didn't second guess myself and overthink, i just answered one question after another. I had about 15 SATA. meds that i didn't know. lots of infection control (which i feel like i knew?) and probably 4 drag n drop. No math calc. Hardly anything with Ob and peds. It's all a big huge blur and I feel like what I all studied didn't help me. I know it's all up to God. I am relying on a big amazing miracle. THis is my 3rd time taking it. 1 time: about 140 questions 2nd time: 205 questions 3rd time (this time): 85 questions. I NEED A MIRACLE.

I had a breakdown last night and just bawled because I was so stressed out and depressed over this. I changed my test date like 4-5 times now. Finally, got up this morning and went on to pearsonvue and just found the test center where I can take it as soon as possible. I am done with this anxiety and worry. I studied nclex3500 (even tho i feel like i don't remem it), exam cram & lacharity in the past. I just came to the conclusion that I cannot fit everything in my brain. I'm really relying on good guessing skills, prayers, God, guardian angels, praying that I get the questions that I have went over & feel confident about. All i need is the questions in which i know and i'll be good. I'm going to take it on this date and sticking with it. whatever happens happens. POSITIVE VIBES.

O my o my i hope and pray that I get easy questions, or at least questions that I know!

I failed twice. once in the fall and once in march. I payed to take it a 3rd time, haven't taken it yet because I don't feel confident at all. i'm very sick of studying. I used nclex3500 and don't freaking remember it. Also studied exam cram and lacharity in the past. I'm sick of this, and i'm sick of ignoring my friends and i'm sick of failure. I feel like im in a depression with this whole career choice I have made in my life & i just wanna quit!!! I am starting to hate this whole nursing thing really. Just wanna say screw it and screw everything. Just venting.
