I would definitely recommend CCRI. It took me 3 1/2 years from starting my pre-reqs to finishing the program. I graduated this past December, just took my boards this week and got my license. CCRI is a great school and has a great program. You get a great education at a great price, and the school has an awesome pass rate for the NCLEX. So far every classmate of mine that has taken their boards has passed. Good luck with your decision!

Hi everyone.. I've been reading over all the posts here and I remember exactly how you feel. I'm going into my last semester of the nursing program at CCRI this fall. It's been the fast almost 2 years of my life and I can't believe I'm going to be graduating in December. I just want to give a word of encouragement to those of you that have been rejected. I know it's hard to keep trying when it feels like you are just spinning your wheels. The people that make the admissions decisions could care less about how students feel. They have the absolute worst attitudes and never have any answers. It's like a never ending vicious circle and you feel like you're always chasing your tail. To be completely honest, it doesn't get that much better when you get into the program. The professors and faculty who run the nursing program can be very unorganized and you often feel like they don't listen to their students. All this being said, I am so happy that I stuck with it and went to CCRI. The actual teachers are for the most part really awesome. Some of the clinical instructors can be tough, but they are fair, and really challenge you to be the best nurse you can be. I have made some AMAZING friends in the program that I know I will have for life and I hope to work with someday. My long winded story broken down is....don't give up. I know it can feel hopeless and it's a real drain on the emotions. In the end...it's all worth it. CCRI really does have a great program, and I'm glad I'll be able to say that's where I got my degree. Best to all!! :-)

There is some moving around during the semester, it varies for each level. Here's how it has gone for me. Nursing 1010: 1st 3 weeks, CCRI Nursing Lab for basic nursing care 2nd 3 weeks, Nursing Home, Woonsocket Last 8 weeks, RI Hospital Nursing 2020: 13 Weeks(or so), Kent Hospital, Warwick Nursing 2040: 1st 5 weeks, Eleanor Slater, Cranston Last 10 weeks, Landmark Hospital, Woonsocket (Some students get this 15 weeks broken up into 3 rotations, I was lucky to only have 2) Nursing 2050 is usually done at only one rotation site from what I've heard.

Hi kellbell11, First congratulations for getting into the program. I am in the day program at the Lincoln campus and will be graduating this December. So the scoop is that while they try and have you do your clinicals as close to where you live as possible, it doesn't always work out that way. Like I said, I attend the day program in Lincoln, I live in Seekonk. My clinicals so far have been at RI Hospital, Kent in Warwick, and Landmark in Woonsocket. I have had friend though that live in Providence, or Northern RI that even got assignments at Newport hospital. They do sometimes let you switch around your rotation, if someone else in your group is looking, or if there is an opening, but sometimes you get stuck where they assign you. They use any and all hospitals in RI. Hope that answers your question somewhat. You just have to be prepared that you could be driving all over the state for clinicals! Good luck.

I don't attend either of the schools talked about in this post, but I just wanted to give my 2 cents. I'm going into my last semester of nursing school and I have continued to work 40 hours a week the entire time I have been in school. I know it's not something everyone can do, but it can be done. I won't say that there are times I have been completely exhausted, but I know that when I graduate in December, it will all have been worth it! It just takes determination and the will power to believe in yourself and knowing what you can do. IT CAN BE DONE :) Good luck with your decision!

HI lilkuz06. Welcome to the boards! I know that CCRI has really been having a hard time filling all the slots for the program as they don't have a waiting list anymore. For last spring, they had an open enrollment just before the semester started, and several people got in that way. I would just say, have everything you need together when you apply. Make sure your immunizations are up-to-date, have your CPR completed, etc. I think it will only help if you can show you are ready to start at a moments notice. I wish you luck with finishing up your pre-reqs and getting into the program. I'm starting my second semester in the fall, and am pretty happy with everything so far.

Hello Desiree. Welcome to the boards. There is a lot of information on here, and it's a great place. CCRI has an excellent nursing program (I just finished my first semester and start Nursing II in the fall). There are several prerequisites you will need to take at CCRI before you can actually apply for the nursing program. They include Anatomy, Physiology, Microbiology, Dosage Calculations...there are others listed on the CCRI website. You need to take all those classes and pass them with the required grades before you apply to the program. There shouldn't be a problem with switching which program you want to go into. You just fill out the proper paperwork with admissions. The math isn't too difficult, it's mostly basic stuff. There is a "math" class you have to take as a prerequisite, it's "Dosage Calculations for Med Administration" I've been going to CCRI for 3 years now and I'm more than happy to answer any other questions about the program or CCRI!

Hello Everyone. I just wanted to wish you all good luck with your applications for the fall. I know it's such a long process and seems like it takes forever to hear anything. The time really does start to fly though. Once you get accepted and then start finding out bits of information like Orientation, etc. You all are going to be nursing students before you even realize it! I'm a Nursing I student that started this spring at the Lincoln campus. I am loving the program and know you guys will too!! Yes, I will be at the Lincoln campus. I will also be working full-time while in school. That is probably, if anything, what makes nervous. It will be a lot of work to keep up with the job and school, but I don't have any other options. Good luck to you as well!!

I too start Nursing I in..wow, just over 2 weeks now. I'm more excited than nervous. It seems like it's taken a long time to get here and I can't wait to begin!!!

I too am starting in January, but not until the 25th. I swear my school gave us a month and a half break! I can't wait to start though.

So if there are any of you out there that have your pre-reqs completed, it looks like CCRI is really having a hard time filling the slots for the spring program. The following posting came out today. "Students who already have completed all the prerequisite classes for the Nursing program can apply to the Spring 2010 program during the next open application period between Jan. 4 and 15, 2010. For a list of prerequisites, program guidelines and the Nursing program application, please visit the Nursing home page." Last check for Lincoln campus there were 80 slots available, but only 47 people registered.

So tomorrow is orientation. It appears that there are only 3 of us on here that are actually attending CCRI in the spring(or there are lurkers that are hiding in the wings) I know orientation isn't much, but I am excited. Hope to see you guys there tomorrow(even if I won't have a clue as to who you actually are!)

I too got a B in Anatomy and am starting nursing school in January. I did manage to get A's in all my other pre-reqs though, which helped me keep my GPA up(currently 3.8) My school grants acceptance by looking at grades in the science classes and TEAS scores.

I studied a bit for the math portion. I've never been that great at math, so I brushed up a bit.

Hey there... I don't personally think it's that difficult of a test. Just try not to stress yourself out about it. Take your time to read the questions. Also remember to use the time that you're given for each section. No reason to rush through it and still have time left on the clock. There are 4 parts. Reading and comprehension, math and science. Each school has their own requirements that you have to meet. Best of luck to you and remember to breath and be confident in yourself!

I can tell you that my school in Rhode Island has completely eliminated their waiting list and is now based solely on grades and your TEAS scores. It's a community college and is only an ADN program, but has a very good track record. I believe for the coming Spring semester they are actually having a hard time finding enough students to fill the class. They normally only have 1 open enrollment period from February to March, but this year they have had 3. There are so many students still working on getting their pre-reqs done that there just are not enough students ready to start Nursing 1.

Hi guys... Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Time is flying by and Jan. 25th is going to be here in no time. Just thought I'd share that I got my orientation information in the mail today. Looks like Wednesday December 16th at 1:00pm is the date. They also included a bunch of information with dates and locations we'll be able to see our clinical assignments, what we'll need for clinicals and whatnot. I am really so excited to finally get started on this journey and can't wait!!

Just thought I'd check in.... It looks like registrations are slowly picking up and that makes me happy. Also good to see they have now added the instructors to the course. Guessing nobody has heard anything about orientation yet? There is only a month left of classes for this semester, and I would think they would want to hold orientation before the holiday break?! Of course, I've never actually received an 'acceptance' letter, so I think they are a little unorganized. All I got was an email saying. "you're all set". At least I'm registered!!!

Hi guys... I registered yesterday too. I was just online and see that there are only 12 registered so far. I figured they are still having a hard time finding enough people to fill the class because a few days ago there were 120 slots available, and Sunday there were suddenly only 80 slots. I haven't heard anything about orientation either. I don't see how they could cancel the class. Think of all the teachers that would displace. The last time I talked to Ruby, she said she was still very busy processing applications, and with the last application period only closed several days ago, I think registrations will pick up. I guess a bright side would be a smaller class size for us! I can't believe how fast the time is going by though. I can't wait!!!

Just an update... I emailed admissions on Friday and got a reply today. She said she has just been busy trying to get all the applications processed. My major has now been changed to "Nursing - Level 1" I should be getting my actual acceptance letter soon, but to see my major changed...feels awesome! She also told me that orientation hasn't been scheduled yet by the nursing department, but they will let us know when the time comes. I can't believe how fast it's going to get here. 3 months from yesterday.

Yeah I'll definitely have to give Ruby a call next week. My major still says "general studies" and a concentration on nursing. I can't wait to start, but I'm getting tired of having to follow up with them time and time again to make sure I'm actually getting in the program. It's been one run-around after another.

Thanks for the update MrsPeep. I think I might have to give them a call next week. I haven't heard anything from them since August when I got the call from Ruby Morris-Jones saying she was going to include me in her "accepted" students. Who was your letter from, if you don't mind me asking? When I look at my student information online it still says I'm in the "General Studies" program, which means I won't be able to register for Nursing 1 until my major is changed to Nursing. Has yours been changed to you know?

Hey Everyone... Just curious if anyone here (even though this board is usually pretty dead!) who are starting the Spring Nursing program, have received anything official from CCRI yet? I got a call many weeks back saying I was accepted and they would be sending out official acceptance letters sometime in October. Anyone heard anything "official"? The closer it gets, the more excited I'm getting!!

I too have resorted to recording lectures. I actually use a Livescribe Pen(which is a little pricey) to record the audio and notes from my lectures. I then put the lectures on a CD and listen to them in the car at any chance I get. The repetition of hearing things over and over really helps the information stick in my head. I will also say that re-writing your notes after class can help, and I know many students that do that. I also have to mention in this response that I think it is irresponsible for someone to suggest that if you are a full-time student that you should quit your job. I don't care how much you take out in loans, for some of us that is just NOT an option. For those of us that have a couple of car payments, a mortgage, kids and the numerous other financial responsibilities, we could never even entertain the idea of quitting our jobs. Let me also say that working full time, and going to school full time can absolutely be done. It can be a very tricky dance, but if you can get a handle of how you mange your time, you can do it. Just believe in yourself. Good luck to you!
