RNloveshePharmD: I had a few questions regarding situations about ethical issues and how I would handle them. I had mostly behavioral questions, like "Tell us about a time you had a conflict, what did you do and what was the outcome." " Why should we pick you for this position?" "What are your greatest strengths" "How have you influenced someone" and questions like that. Good luck to you!!

I am graduating in May and I will be starting my Versant Program in August!!! AAHH!! I cannot believe it!! I am beyond thrilled!! I am very excites about the prospect and happy to know this would be a busy unit! Maybe I got the bed numbers incorrect for post partum, I was saying "200 per month" over and over trying to remember that since I wasn't sure what it meant and I wanted to be sure to research! :) It sounds like it was probably the other way around and 11 LDRP and 18 post partum! :)

I am graduating in May and I had my very first interview for a New Graduate Labor and Delivery position today! Yay! During the interview I asked how many beds there were and at this particular hospital there are 18 LDRP beds and 11 post partum. There are 200 births/month on average. I am wondering if this is considered a small unit and if 200 births/month is considered a low rate or a high rate? Thanks all!!

Hello All! I am going to be graduating to be a Registered Nurse in May! I am so beyond excited!! I originally got in to nursing wanting to be a Labor and Delivery nurse and throughout my L&D clinicals I was floating around on cloud 9. :heartbeat I loved being a part of the miracle of birth and watching the parents go through this situation and even dealing with death and helping the parents cope was profoundly rewarding, just to be a part of someones life in such an important moment. There was no doubt in my mind that I wanted to be working on this unit... Until I went through my ICU rotation. I was shocked to enjoy ICU so much! I got in to nursing because I wanted to make a difference and after seeing what a difference the nurses in ICU make for the patient and the families, I feel drawn to this unit. I feel like the ICU nurses are extremely intelligent and have a broad knowledge base of critical care. I feel like the ICU may in fact give me more opportunities to grow and possibly become a better nurse in the future. I am conflicted now!! Should I follow my heart and apply straight in to L&D or should I follow my head and go into ICU? There are Versant positions available in both. I know I may not even get offers for either, I would just like some advice from experienced nurses.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL NS 2009 STARTERS!!! YAY!! WE ARE GOING TO BE NURSES!!!! I keep telling myself that all day today! Today was my very first day of NS! It was kind of more like orientation than actual "lectures" and "labs", but I still enjoyed it!! I think I am just beyond excited to be there that I am like "Whatever you want to tell me I will soak up like a sponge!!" :redbeathe :chuckle Tomorrow starts are official lectures and then clinical skills are Thursday and Friday. YAY!!! So happy to finally be called a nursing student!!

Aaaahhh.. Man!! This time you will get it! You know what to study now! :)

I think that on our college website each nursing instructor has a website that has a syllabus listed with what books we should be and everything, so I am going to go and print that up and read it! I absolutely love allnurses.com! Seriously, there is so much wonderful information! Thank you for all of your suggestions! Craziezchiq: YAY! Oh how exciting you already had your orientation! I cannot wait! Mine is not until August 18, so I still have a while to wait. BUT I am just like you.. Talking about it constantly and thinking about it even more! WOOHOO!! :yeah: I AM SO EXCITED!!! I took my TEAS test this morning and I passed, so I am officially a nursing student! YAY!!! I can hardly contain my excitement! I know that I have a lot of work cut out for me in the near future, but I am just so very excited about what is to come! I can't wait to finally get in there and start learning! It is just such an amazing feeling to have wanted this for so long, overcome so many obstacles to get here, and FINALLY I made it in!! I am so looking forward to the next part of this journey! So, who is with me??? Who else is so excited that you are driving everyone around you crazy talking about nursing?? For those that are already in nursing school and have passed this milestone of "first semester," what do you recommend that I study and how should I prepare myself/life for nursing school? Hi! I just took the TEAS test this afternoon and I got an 84%! Not the greatest, BUT I am extremely happy with it!! I studied from the ATI study guide and I bought their 100 question practice test, and I HIGHLY recommend this commbination!! The math, reading, and english sections were all exactly like the study guide! I thought that for the most part Reading and English were extremely fair on the test, mainly common sense stuff. Read through the ATI study guide and they will give you some really good advice and lots of practice questions, so you can get a feel of how the questions are asked. I didn't have any questions in math that were not in the study guide. If you conquer every question in the study guide, you will for sure do good in the math section! Study your ratio's, percentages, and METRIC CONVERSIONS. I had about 5 questions on cm, mm, mL, L, and lbs conversions. Basic Algebra and basic geometry. Again, if you know the stuff in the guide, you will do fine on this section! HOWEVER, I do not think that they give you enough time for the math section!! I only had 2 minutes to spare at the end and quite a few of the other students ran out of time before they could finish. IF you find yourself stuck and spending more than two minutes on a question, just skip it and move on. Better to answer 5 that you know, than get hung up on that 1 and end up with a page of no answers! For the science, wow. That was my worst section! STUDY STUDY STUDY!!!! Understand every section in the book and look online at basic physics and chemistry. There were quite a few questions about rocks, clouds, and tectonic plates; stuff I REALLY didn't study enough!!
