Florida BSN Pre Licenser Program Western Governors University (WGU)
Just wondering if there was any new information. This is an old thread and it is still listed as Florida being one of their sites. Thought I'd ask to see if anyone knew.

Florida BON - Board Has to Approve
I went to the meeting, they told me that I didn't need to go, but I figured that since it is my license that I am trying to get approved, that I had better go and speak up for myself. There were plenty of people who didn't go and only a few that did. I am glad I did because they asked questions and talked and approved my license. Otherwise, it would have been denied but because they could ask me extra questions and I had a chance to speak up for myself and explain it worked out. Make sure they have everything - every document from court, letters of rec, anything to show you are trying your best to be a better person. Wish you all the best!! Suz

I decided not to fight and advice the same to anyone else
I used to believe in fighting for your dreams. It took me a year to fight with the BON to get my license. I felt it was such a sweet victory. Some good it did me when no one will hire me. I just interviewed for my dream job. Was all excited that I made it through two interviews and they said they couldn't have found a more perfect fit. I thought surely this is a mistake. Got the paperwork to start orientation next week only to get a call today saying that becase of issues with my background check that they would have to withdraw the job offer. I was upfront and honest about it. So, I think you are right. The BON is not the problem it is getting past it and getting hired. I am deeply disappointed and don't have any fight left in me. I wish those that fight success. I feel like I will forever be punished for my stupid mistakes from my past. It doesn't matter how much I've changed and what a great asset I would be to their team. All they look at is FELON. Wish those who are fighting the best!

How do you get a job?
Well, make it short and sweet, but it took me a year to get my CNA license in the state of Florida. I went in front of the Board, had letters, documents, you name it, and was finally granted my license. I figured that this was a good starting point to see if I would be able to get my RN. The Board was really supportive, and thanked me for my honesty about my past. I do have felonies from my past, 2002 & 2004 (not a good time in my life). In any case, I survived the process. Now I am trying to get past HR at the hospitals and as soon as I check do you have a felony - I get an auto NO. Some told me because I am not from this area and didn't go to school here and know the staff from clinicals that I won't get past HR at any place. I was told that I might have better luck when I start my RN program as it will give me time to shine and hopefully shed a good light on me and hope that I can overcome the hiring nightmare. I am open and honest about my past. I have nothing to hide and don't try to. But it is down right depressing. Anyone care to chime in and give me their .02?? Any help would be great! Thanks

Florida BON - Board Has to Approve
I got notification toaday that the BON has to approve my CNA license. It is scheduled to go in front of the board at their next meeting in August in Tampa. Has anyone ever had to have the BON approval? If so, did you attend the board meeting personally? I asked if I needed to attend and got no answer. Any insight would be helpful. Suz

Uab- amnp how many accepted each year?
Does anyone know if you have to have your BS before the deadline to apply for Spring 2012 or if you can have it finished before the program starts? I know that the 2011 program started in May this year, I am wondering if May is considered spring or if it will start in Jan. Just trying to plan. Really want to apply.

How to become an RN first assistant
So from what I am reading from the earlier posts that RNFA is really a waist? My friend who was on the waiting list for nursing school got into a surgical first assistant program and graduated in 2 yrs and is making more money then any of the RN's I know. It would seem that Dr's would want RN's because of their stronger medical background. SFA are basically scrub techs with extra training. Not to knock either profession - but I want to get into OR nursing - and was thinking the RNFA was the way to go. But it seems that maybe taking the program to become a Surgical Assistant is better. Any thoughts on this? Love to hear it first hand. Suz

Florida BON - Criminal Charges
I was told by the nursing school that I was applying to that the rules have changed for the BON in July. When I go onto the BON site there is nothing on there that states these changes. The head of the nursing program said because I have felony (not drugs) that I will have to wait 15 years to be able to go to school and apply for a license in Florida. Just wondering what is going on here. According to the BON website its the same rules - you can apply for clearance to take the NCLEX. Any clarification would be great! Thanks

Army Nursing Question
My girlfriend and I are getting ready to start our BSN program together. We are both wanting to be an Army Nurse when we graduate. One thing that separates us is that she has a criminal record from 5 years ago. I told her that she needed to talk to a health care recruiter and they could asnwer the question for her but she insists that she can get a wavier. I think that she is really setting herself up for disappointment. Anyway, have you heard of them doing waviers for past criminal records? I am thinking no Anyway, I just feel bad and thought I'd ask - if anything for my own peace of mind because I think she is going to end up very disappointed. Suz
