  1. I believe that stress management is a key to staying healthy while in nursing school. Most people eat and eat and eat when they are stressed out. I found that my transition to nursing school was unexpected (I was called the day before school started and asked to start) yet my support system tried to make the move as smooth as possible. I found myself coping with the stress and boredom of all of a sudden being alone in a new city by eating. Now, five weeks into NS, I have started to implement exercising back into my routine which helps me maintain my weight and relieve stress at the same time. Taking fruits and snacks to class helps tremendously and making sure that you don't buy junk food when you go grocery shopping.
  2. and 84% on my test, highest score was 88%...Ok its getting long, let me know if I can give anymore advice.
  3. Hello, I just started NS last month, I was called to start the day before classes started. I had to quit my job, move 2 hours away and get mentally prepared for nursing school all within a weeks notice. I am just getting use to everything and meeting new friends which will hopefully keep me from coming home every weekend. I would say that even though you are anxious try to enjoy your summer. I wasnt suppose to start until September which was a plus because I had a few trips planned for the summer to relax but low and behold school came calling. I carry a backpack that has cushioned straps and it works well for me, the teachers usually recommend leaving your books at school but your folder and calendar/planner are something I live by. Tape lectures if thats how you usually study but if you haven't used it before then it won't make a difference, but that doesnt go without saying you can explore different studying options but dont get too carried away because you might use a new technique to prepare for a class and end up not passing the test because that method doesnt work for you. All the supplies you can think of highlighters, tape, stapler etc. What I do is try to read and study a chapter a day, my first class we have quizzes every week so I study really hard for those then when its test week I basically review to brush up. So far I've got a 8/10 & 10/10 on my quizzes
  4. Hello everyone, its been a while since I could update because I have been so busy..imarealangel all I did was the drug screen and background check which is basically done all together. I haven't done my physical but I think they have you do that along with getting your immunization records after you are accepted. I turned my package in before the deadline day but just about a week before and because I lived 2 hours away from the school. It may be that they don't want you to turn it in too early so they can keep them all together. I love the program so far, the teachers are great and hilarious, they make learning fun. feel free to ask any questions you have.
  5. I started Kaplan today!!! I was literally called yesterday and advised they had a spot of me if I was interested. Im so excited yet overwhelmed. I have to put my whole life on hold in the blink of an eye. Quit my job, say bye to my friends, find a place to stay, find financial aid etc.

  7. Hello, My friend goes to Cerritos and she likes it a lot. Good Luck!! and Congrats!!
  8. Well no I dont plan to work at least for the first part of the program. I plan to take out a loan, how about you?? I applied for a few nursing assistant jobs but haven't heard back yet. Well I will keep you posted. Thanks
  9. Congrats :yeah:Hope mine is on the way!!!
  10. DimplesandCurls, Just the person I wanted to talk to. I am trying to wait o so patiently but the wait is killing me lol. I had a sneaking suspicion that they gave the test to the people who they felt were most qualified and who they felt had a good chance of getting in. I wish there were more people who were on here who could spread the good about Kaplan, people who actually are in the nursing program. Anyways ok so you think I have a good chance in getting in? I have a BA, 2 years nursing experience passed the teas and wonderlic with flying colors. How long did it take them to call you? I called last week but they said the reps were on vacay so I'm hoping to hear something by next week. I need to go meet my roomie who is on hold until I hear something. So the program is doable huh, do you work at all? Was it easy to get financed? I have no student loans from my BA so I am thinking I should be able to get financed pretty easy. OK sorry to bore you with all the questions lol:yawn: Im just happy there is finally someone who is on here that is almost done with the program and who can give advice. Thanks again
  11. For Sure, Thanks so much for your support...
  12. I have heard though that the PCAT program is much different than the RN program and where a lot of people said they didn't like the PCAT program others said they liked the nursing program. I have actually applied to NU and as many have also said getting into the nursing school right away is a pain because, as I did sent in my application 3 months ago and have not heard back from them, they don't answer the phone and since I dont live in San Diego I cant waste time going down there just to get some attention. Thats my take BUT everyone has a different experience and it sucks because one person may go to a school and LOVE IT while someone else could go and HATE IT. Like you said in the end we will all be nurses and after being in school for the last 8 years, changing majors and careers I just want to get done. BUT I will check out NU again if I dont get in Kaplan...EEEKKKK I dont even like saying if I dont get in because Im praying everyday I do.
  13. Lol that is so funny....I don't know where I will live at but somewhere around the school within 20mi BUT I cant go look until I find out if I am in :sofahider These smileys are hilarious but I will be moving from Rancho Cucamonga, CA. Yes I am really confident about my decision as well, I have researched as much as possible and I think this school fits me, plus its in San Diego, I couldnt ask for more. Lolwut, the main concern with people is that this school is nationally accredited I believe which basically means that nursing degree is legit but to further your education you may not have as many options. One option that is for sure is going through University of Pheonix. already have my bachelors degree in Psychology with no loans nor do I owe any money so I consider the 50k the cost of my nursing degree and bachelors (a way of psyching myself out of thingking about the price tag lol). As I hear, my tuition will be lowered bc I have all my pre-reqs completed. Other than accredidation and tuition I think those are the only complaints about the school. The few people on here that I have found who went there seemed to like the school alot. Hey jangelvi, Did they make you take your drug and background check?? I thought that was a little weird and expensive to take before we know if we are in or not. All in all I am just trying to finish school as soon as I can. I loved the quote I read somewhere on the thread that said the years I am wasting on waiting list is money I am losing (60k, average starting salary). I figure only I can make of my career what I want, there are always loopholes and schools that will accept the units. :icon_hug:
  14. Omg finally someone I can talk to ...Who was your rep? I've had two. My friend called for me last week lol and said she was told they will know by the 1st and start calling people by the 6th. I want to call on Wednesday but then i kind of want to be suprised with the phone call lol. I will be moving to San Diego so I need to know ASAP so I can go down and meet my potential roomie. How did you do on the teas?? I got a 79 and 27 on the wonderlic. I already have my bachelors and about 3 years medical experience. What have you heard about the school, like how easy is it to get in to?? Well good luck, we can keep each other motivated through the wait.
  15. I applied to Kaplan and am waiting to hear the results. Yes, you must have 6mo medical experience and a good score on the teas and wonderlic test. I will let you guys know the outcome..PRAY PLEASE lol :loveya:
  16. I would first ask what is your educational background. I have my bachelors with all my science pre-req classes completed and I thought the text was pretty easy. I got a 81% and I would say that my weakest area was math which is what I expected from the get go. I studied fractions which is what I thought I needed the most help on but I got 100% on that but in the 70's on proportions and other areas so I would say if you have a main area that you know you dont do as good in you would probably want to focus on that area. I thought the science area would be difficult but it was much easier than the study guide advised. anyways good luck
  17. My advisor is Ray and also Brandi. I studied only the math portion on the teas and still didnt do that good on it lol I got like an 69% but that was still above the national and Kaplan average. I focused on fractions because I forgot all the rules and got 100% in that section but did bad in proportions and something else. It was actually much easier than the book says. Mostly easier on the science sections but I got a 89% on that section so just find your weakness and study that part. I'll let you know what happens, I just called Ray but he wasnt at his desk so Im still waiting.......Just hope I can get through the weekend without going crazy but I hear if you meet the requirements and pass the test with decent scores your in.:wink2:
  18. Hello, I applied for the may start session and I will find out next week for sure if I got in. I have been on this site forever and haven't found anyone that has actually went through the program. I will give you all the info I have to pass time as I wait ever so anxiously. To get in the program you have to pass 2 test, the teas and the wonderlic. I got a 78.6% the first time and although they say get an 80 or above my rep seemed really impressed with my score. I brought the ATI book an studied that. The wonderlic is more like an IQ type test 50 questions in 12 min you have to get at least 24 on that, once again although they say shoot for 30 I got a 28 and my rep was glad for that too. I dont see any trouble getting a job after bc it doesnt matter where you go to school all that matters is that you pass the NCLEX after you graduate from KAPLAN. I have heard that Kaplans units transfer to National University and University of Phoenix. I am a little different in that I already have my bachelors so I'm not really concerned with whether or not I can tranfer the units BUT these are the two school that I know will take Kaplans units. They want you to have at least 6mo of medical experience. You say you have 7 which is good as long as its within the last 2 years, that is a must. The next start date is September 09 so try to apply for then. Kaplan is a little more but I figure I dont have any student loans for my bachelors so if I have to spend the 35-40k (mine is less bc all my pre-reqs are done) then its worth it bc I get my nursing license and Bachelors for the price of one. Well keep me posted on your progress, Im PRAYING I get in. Hope this info helps.
  19. Thanks everyone for responding. I got my results back in two days and of course I passed everything. Well negative drug test and nothing negative on my background check. I will know if I am accepted in 2 weeks so I will keep you all posted. Thanks so much.
  20. I am in the same boat and there is an accelerated ASN program in San Diego, Ca that is 20mon through Kaplan college and also one through Kaplan University in Florida.
  21. That is true, but my couselor gave the papers to me, as there is no website for this school and told me I should do it right away thats why I am wondering why he would have me pay the money without getting accepted for sure. IDK but thats for answering :-)
  22. I had the same question when I was going to take the test and I will say that as long as you have had previous science classes you will do fine. I scored a 87% on the science and didnt study much because I spent most of my time studying math. My questions were mostly about experiments and hypotheses. For example and researchers experiment went like this blah blah blah...What was he trying to study A. B. C. or D. or I had one question say something like a container had liquids 1 2 3 liquid 3 floated to the top of 2 and 1. ANother continer liquid 1 4 and 3 in which 4 floated on top of 1 and 3. what was the order of the liquids if they were in the same container?? which the answer would be 4, 3, 1...Something like that so as long as you understand density you will get that one right. Another about genetics. I didn't think it went into as much depth as the study guide gave but like I said if you took science pre-requisites you will be fine. Hope I didnt confuse you lol.
  23. I have recently applied to a school, in which, I did pretty good on the teas and had to take the SLE which I passed as well. I also have a degree and in this program you get more points for having a degree and even more points because I have more than 6 months medical experience. When I turned in my application the counselor gave me the paperwork for my drug screen and background check. Normally, I thought they do this after they send out acceptance letters right? Are they giving me mine early because they think I have a good shot at getting in?? I hope so. Maybe I'm jumping the gun, but my mom, who is a nurse believes this too. Tell me what you think?? Has anyone been given the paper work for a drug screen and background check before being accepted?? I also have to pay 65$ so I hope this is good news. Thanks everyone:nurse:
