Hey ld109, i had my interview this past Tuesday as well. What time was yours? I wouldn't be too hard on myself. I'm sure EVERYONE was nervous and I'm sure the administrators understands that...especially since they were group interviews!

Hi Lulu, Unfortunately, there is a lot of competition everywhere for nursing so I would definitely try to bring up the GPA. The GPA isn't the only thing that counts, but its an important factor since it counts as 50% of your application. Also, cast a wider net. Hunter isn't the only school with a nursing program. I know that it's an ideal school because it's got a great reputation and it's affordable, but don't count only on Hunter. You should definitely look into other programs and see what their prereqs and general education requirements are and try to fulfill some of them as you take courses at Hunter. When you apply for the generic pathway, you can also opt to apply to other schools and transfer into their programs. Also, since the NLN is the other 50% of your application, take enough time to prepare for it and try to do well. You should definitely aim to score 145+ on it to help better your chances of getting in given your current GPA. The NLN isn't terribly difficult, but you need to prepare and practice. Nursing is your dream so don't let anything stand in the way of it. You can definitely do it :)

Hi EMTLeen1987, I applied as a transfer mid-Feb. i called yesterday and the student ambassador gave me the same answer I'm sure they give everyone else -- "transfer students can expect to hear beginning to mid May on a rolling basis". I told them that the registration deadline for my current school is coming up in a few days and was wondering if it would be possible to find out earlier because, ideally, I'd like to know how to plan in the event I don't get into NYU, but the ambassador said something along the lines of requesting for an extension from my current school because they plan to roll out decisions for transfer in May.

hi everyone, i was wondering if everyone that's still waiting for a decision are traditional transfer applicants or are there still accelerated prog applicants still waiting to find out? i applied before the priority date as a transfer student and I havent heard anything. im really nervous.

Hi JLan, sorry to hear about your situation. Since you already have a BS, it probably makes more sense for you to go into an accelerated BSN program. you would end up spending more money and time in the long run. have you looked into stony brook? if you don't mind traveling, they have an accelerated bsn program as well. While hunter does not evaluate your courses before you are admitted, they are usually pretty good with accepting classes. i transferred to hunter from bmcc and all of the classes i took at BMCC were transferred in. did you receive your BS from a cuny school? if so, you can go to tipps.cuny.edu and use their course equivalency search engine. hope this helps!

does it matter what school you go to for nursing? do hospitals look at your school and does that have any weight in getting a job?

Hi Determination, I'm also interested in stony brook. I called a few weeks ago and spoke to someone. I asked them how many applications are received each year and how many are accepted. She told me that out of approx. 600 applicants, only 65-80 are accepted. I almost fainted. if stony is your dream school, you should definitely apply, but make sure you have back ups! hi sandrita, i currently go to bmcc too. im not in the nursing program, but i do have some information on it. you can only take one nursing class each semester with the exception of nursing 415 which is nursing today and tomorrow. the nursing program is going to take 2 years to complete and there isnt a way around it since the school doesnt allow u to take more than 1 nursing class each semester. let me know if you have any other questions.

yep, you have to pay city tax if you live in any of the boroughs except for Long Island...not sure about staten island...

i am curious -- how many years did it actually take BMCC nursing program graduates to actually finish? is it hard to finish in 3yrs? is it possible to finish in 2.5yrs if all goes well? thanks!!

Thank you, PediatricNurse. I really appreciate all the input and information you have provided. It's a relief knowing that I shouldn't have a problem finding a job if I were to get my ADN first. That was basically the only discouragement. After talking to a few people and getting your feedback, I have decided that I would pursue nursing. I also intend on getting my BS, so it'll be a long road, but I'm sure it's well worth it! Thanks again!!

hi everyone, i'm new to posting on this forum, but i have been lurking for quite some time now reading posts and trying to gain as much knowledge about nursing as possible. i've been thinking about going back to school to get a nursing degree. i am older than the average student, so i wanted to get the degree and get licensed as quickly as possible. i was accepted into BMCC for the Spring 09 semester to take my pre clinical classes. i have been having a really hard time deciding whether i should go or not. i have decided that if i do go back to school, i'm going to go into it 100%. i plan on quitting my job to devote all my time to this. being a poor student scares me.. my main concerns are the following: 1. i hear its getting harder and harder to find jobs with only an associates even if you intend on getting your BS while working. 2. i've spoken to a few nurses and some say that it doesnt matter what school you go to, some say it does. a few people have said that if i want a good job, then i should not go to BMCC. is any of this true? are there any BMCC alumnis that can give some input? 3. does any BMCC alumnis know what the employment rate is once you graduate? i am trying to make a better future for myself by going back to school to get a nursing degree (also bc i have a passion for it), but all the effort will be pointlessif i am unable to get a job bc I went to BMCC and have "only"an associates degree... i dont know what to do! any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...
