Large bore IV
just because your car can go 120mph does that mean you would drive that fast and be safe, that would destroy your car and engine? those are maximum limits! It can not be any different for iv's. and if a doc wants a 16 in, im not going to go show him the package and say well an 18 can do 6l/hr, do you think he cares on a trauma?

Magnesium for torsades
i just gave mag for torsades, if it premixed in a bag run in it wide open , or push it as fast as you like, you can run it slower for respiratory issues

Large bore IV
if you worked in a real level 1 trauma center you would understand the need for larger ivs like 14 and 16. have a pt that seems fine code on you or a pt get intubated within 10 minutes of arrival that was responsive at home or a trauma that you infuse 5-6 liters over an our and you might start to understand. no you dont put in large iv to scare frequent flyers, if you do that you need to be sued and lose you license cause your not a nurse. you need to look at the pt and situation and decide for yourself.

Taking NCLEX in 2 days... starting to freak!
I don't remember what nclex said to do with the math and I just took it Friday. Honestly I had one math question, that's it. I would focus on prioritizing and infection control

just got home from nclex in morgantown
that was the worst test i have taken, ever. im really not sure how i did, and i cannt even say how you are supposed to prepare for the test.you either have a good base or not. i had alot of prioritizing pt care, like which pt would you care for first, which meds would you give first, etc. it shut off at 85-90 im not even sure, i wasnt paying attention to the number, it took me about an hour. not sure how i feel about it at all. i tried the pearson vue trick and i got the good popup, but i will have to wait and see, my state doesnt have the quick results, so ill have to wait on the board of nursing.

ATI Live Review 3.0 scores
im taking nclex tomorrow, friday. i scored 84% on my proctored test or 99% chance to pass, but these live review tests are insanely hard. stuff i never remember even talking about. a friend of mine said that they called ati and ati said that 60% is like a 97% chance to pass. not sure if its true or not. but these 3.0 tests are making me nervous

Just started my 2nd semester of an accel program. To anyone who is discouraged.
Well just to tell my story. I started last Jan in an RN program that is 1.5 years long. The school took none of my prereqs from my associates degree I already have. My first semester was 19 cr hrs . This semester is 16. And the last two 18 and 19. I made it past that first and now I am continuing , I had a couple test already this semester and am doing fine so far. I also work 30 hours a week and have a daughter. I moved 3.5 hours, sold my house, and moved over break. The school I go to is notorious for being hard around here but they have a 97% nclex pass rate. Long story short, for anyone wanting to get into nursing, anything is possible, don't give up. Nursing school is harder tahn you can imagine, it was a shock for me. But if it's your dream you can make it happen. I just hope I can make it! Less than a year left!

Single moms-how you do it
I'm not home and I don't know what state your in but I found this http://Www.collegescholarships.org/grants/state.htm Click your state and you can see what grants are available. Then on your state aid site you may be able to find scholarships to apply for too. Hope this helps!

nln entrance exam question
I guess what I should ask is does anyone know of someone that scored high on their entrance exam and did not get admitted?
-
Single moms-how you do it
yea definately apply for federal pell grants. I know Pennsylvania has state grants as well. So check for state grants too. Ask the financial aid about scholarships you may qualify for too. I'm not a single mom, but I am a dad who will be working full time when I start, hopefully in jan.

nln entrance exam question
wow I thought I would have got a reply by now. I got my letter from nln. I'm in the 97 th percentile. I'm still nervous though. I am the last group to take the nln for spring 09. I'm up against about 30 who took it. They won't say how many more they are taking for spring class. Or how much the nln test is a factor in the descision. They said they are meeting Monday and I will get a letter after that. Should I really be worried or am I freaking out for no reason?

nln entrance exam question
i posted in the generalthread the same thing but i am not getting response so sorry for the double post. i just took the nln exam and got my score back, the teacher posted it on her website but i only have that i scored 140. they said their passing grade was 96. but i dont know if scoring 44 points higher will make that much if a difference or not? is that a good score? i have nothing to base it against. i only got to study for a couple days before the test. Literally i wasw told i was eligible to take the test on Nov. 26 and i took it on Dec. 1.( i could not take it until i took a compass test for the school). i was also worried because i asked 2 different people at the school whats on the test andthey told me just math, reading, and vocab. they never said science too! kinda caught meoff guard. i really want to get accepted and am nervous because i have been out of school for 9 years. i was worried about taking the test becasue i havnt done any math or science for that long. i am out of state too, andi dont want this to make them not want me to attend. its just stressing me out . i emailed today and asked if i could have the percentile i was in and all they said back was that that dosnt matter only the composite score did. she also said they would be meeting as a commity monday to decide. i applied to west virginia northern. does anyone know what they base their descisions on primarily?
