  1. I'd be curious to hear more about this as I would like to do the same.
  2. Well the the problem is I also take out loans for cost of living. I'm estimating that by the time I graduate I will have approx $220k in loans which seems like a lot to me lol. I wish there were more loan repayment programs but I realize I'll just have to make some sacrifices for now. Thanks for your input!
  3. Hi! I'm in CRNA school and wanted to get a more recent expectation of what is to come for graduates. My questions are: 1) How much debt did you have when you graduated? 2) How long did it take you to pay it off? 3) How did you pay it off? (Example: employer loan repayment, overtime, etc...) Right now I'm going to a very expensive program ($110k total) and want to get an idea of the variety of ways to get loans paid off quickly. I'll be 29 when I graduate and I would like to have kids and eventually be part time for a little while.
  4. Just thought I'd update the progress on my application process. So far I've applied to 9 schools. I was rejected right away from 3. I interviewed at 2 (and got rejected after the interview at one, still waiting to hear from the other). I have another interview scheduled in September. And I'm waiting to hear from the other 3. Since I originally posted I got my CCRN. I was rejected by the 1st 3 before I got it. I haven't been denied an interview since receiving it. I haven't retaken the GRE but I may consider doing so if I don't get into the school I just interviewed at. I will also consider taking an advanced patho class to help my application.
  5. I finally got a call today!
  6. I tried to call them on Monday to see if they were inviting people by email or mail. Didn't know they were doing phone calls. I hope to hear from them soon. This wait is awful!
  7. I still haven't heard anything yet
  8. No I haven't heard anything yet.
  9. Hi! I have an interview on Aug 6!
  10. Yeah I'm going to see if I can ask some of my coworkers who got in if I can see their letters they submitted. I think I've gotten better with interviews but I'll study hard and hope for the best!
  11. Well that's good to hear. I was concerned after I got my GRE scores and saw they didn't meet the minimum requirements for some schools. I will def get the CCRN as soon as I qualify.
  12. Ok I will check those out. I just want to make sure I don't waste my time and take a class that the schools won't accept. Thank you!
  13. I plan on applying to CRNA school this year but I'm trying to figure out if I'll even be considered. I've been a RN since 2011 and started working in the MICU at a large academic teaching hospital last year in June. So here's what I have Nursing GPA 3.38 Chem B Anatomy and physiology B GRE Verbal 147 Math 150 (waiting on writing score) I only have CMSRN. I plan to get CCRN as soon as I can. And experience I will have 2 years nursing, in addition to 1.5-2 years ICU experience depending on when I start. I'm considering re-taking the GRE to hopefully score a little higher. I know I slightly missed the recommended scores for Samford and a few others. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
  14. I'm considering taking an online chemistry class to open up more opportunities for other schools. I haven't taken chem I since 2007. I want to make sure I take an online class that I will get credit for when I apply to CRNA school. I keep seeing things about UNE and wanted to know what other options there may be before I sign up. Thanks!
  15. I currently have been working at Emory University Hospital for 2 years on a med-surg floor. I want to switch to ICU so I can work towards my goal of becoming a CRNA. I believe ICU experience from Emory would look benefical on my resume but I would rather work somewhere where I don't have to sign another 2 year contract. So my questions are: 1) Would it be better for CRNA school to have Emory on my resume? 2) Which types of ICUs would be most benefical? CVICU, MICU, SICU, etc...? I was considering finding a smaller hospital without contracts, working there for a year, and then coming back to Emory or some other big name hospital until I get into grad school. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated :)
  16. I am having a hard time getting over situations when family and/or patients get upset. I start to feel like a bad nurse and taking a different career path. I know I shouldn't get discouraged so easily but I can't stand when people are upset with me. There was one instance when I transferred my patient back to her bed after she returned from CT. I gave the oxygen tubing to the tech and told them to turn it on to 3L. I SWEAR she plugged it in and turned it on. I left the room to check some orders after we got her situated and cleaned up. Later that night one of the daughters called me furious saying how her mother's oxygen saturation was in the 70-80% because no one hooked up her oxygen and it was "negligence" and she complained about one bad thing after another. I was completely baffled because the daughter that was there didn't say anything, and the tech didn't tell me anything. And apparently the daughters told my shift manager who emailed me and the unit director about the situation. I'm afraid they'll start to think I'm no good and write me up. All I feel I can do with angry people is just to listen and apologize for any mishaps. It seems to get harder and harder for me to deal with attitudes. Any advice?
  17. The north tower is nice. I didn't get a chance to tour the south tower. The floors seem to have some good technology. And it appears that the nurses were happy on the floors I saw.
  18. That's too bad they finished interviewing for them this week.
  19. Well that's good. I hope it's an enjoyable place to work. Especially if they offer me a job :-)
  20. No one has heard anything or knows someone that knows someone who worked there?
  21. I have an interview for the ICU coming up at the Northeast Ga Med Center and was curious as to how the hospital is. I can't seem to find much on it so I wanted to get others opinions. Is a nice place to work? Are the nurses friendly? How is the pay compared to the Atlanta area? I'm a new grad so I hope to get a job at a place that is great to work.
  22. I'm not really sure. I'm just trying to think of places in case GA doesn't work out. I'm going to apply to a lot of places in GA and see what happens. I would really love to get a job in the ICU. I'll def have to keep doing my research.
  23. I'll be graduating this December with my BSN, and I'm confused as to where begin my job search. I currently live in GA. I've been considering TX, NC, and GA. I would like to move to the West coast, but I know the cost of living is high. I want to move somewhere where my rent won't suck me dry. Does anyone have any recommendations of good places to live where there are good hospitals too? I plan on visiting some places later this year. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
