  1. so I'm a recent grad, I have an interview for an OR Position at a hospital. I just want to know what should I expect? and what do they expect from me? I would never thought in a million yrs that I'll be working in the OR (PACU yes..) .. But thats the beauty in nursing, you can try everything until you find your niche. What are the pros & cons in the OR? Salary? Did anybody start in the OR right after nursing school?
  2. yes I did, I took it just last week...and I passed .. I'm relieved that I passed and it feels good to not open a book everyday for a change :)
  3. It really depends on your situation, if you have the luxury to take a month off or two..take it!..most of the people I know who prepared for 2 weeks bc they had work or kids and family, found the NCLEX "difficult" ... My thing is if I spent all this time in nursing school, it's worth taking a month to study to make sure you've got everything covered and to pass the NCLEX the first try. Even though not everything is going to come out, at least you don't have yourself to blame at the end when you feel like you didn't prepare....you can say you did your best and you'll be more relaxed.
  4. Your in good standing if your grades are between 60-70% ... and the amount of questions your doing is good too, I did about 100q's/day and 200q's/day 2 weeks prior to my exam. I don't think I would've passed the first time if I didn't take kaplan. It really gives you an idea what your weakest and your strongest points, so you know what to work on. Good Luck and keep doing your questions!!:)
  5. I felt the same way!! I felt good after I took my test and felt confident...at the same time 100% of my nursing friends said it was difficult which made me doubt myself because I thought I never reached the level of difficulty - but long and behold, I passed the NCLEX! I think its all in the preparation.
  6. the PearsonVueTrick (PVT) is basically after you take your NCLEX, once your status says "Delivery Successful" you would try to re-register again and before you get to the credit card page you would either get the "POP UP" that won't let you register - which means to PASSSED...BUT if it lets you go all the way through the Creditcard page - it means you FAILED ... it worked for me! ... I did it 2 hrs after I took my nclex and got the pop-up....Like I said above Kaplan says you at least want 60% or above, you have 90% chance of passing it....I kept working on my questions and towards the end I was able to get to 90's and 80's ... You studied hard enough, trust me it will pay off!!! Good Luck!
  7. I thought when I took the NCLEX that the kaplan questions were harder. But at the same time it all depends on how prepared you are. I studied for about a month and I did questions every day (~100 p/day) and 200 q/day 2 weeks before my exam ... I say keep working on your qbanks and read the rationales, also do your question trainers. You at least want 60-65% on your qbanks. What I did was I did questions and studied the content. I also used Saunders along with the kaplan book , I only use it when I need to know the rationales. My kaplan instructor to not use the saunders CD for questions but it is good if you want to review your content. Don't be scared, I was scared too but when I took the exam, I was like thats what I was scared of?? trust me its very do-able as long as you put in work!? Good Luck!! and think positive :)
  8. Thank You, congrats in advance!! I know you may not believe me and kind of skeptical but it the PVT does work!!! :yeah:Good luck :)
  9. just wanted to let everyone know I PASSED the NCLEX-RN!! woohooo pvt works ;D
  10. yeap, I tried it 3x yesterday and today....thats keeping me hopefull but then it can be a total false positive result....eeeek
  11. thanks! the 48 hour wait is a nightmare!? I find out my results tomorrow morning
  12. I felt the same thats why I'm freaking out ... a lot of people said it's "hard" walking out of that exam... did you do the Pearson Vue trick?
  13. congrats! I just took mine today....did you think the q's were difficult?
  14. I had a friend from nursing school who went through the whole 265q's and passed!! I took mine today as well, Im already thinking of plan if I failed it's such a sucky feeling to know you can either for both ways...75 q's or 265 q's it gives the same anxiety...You would think after taking the NCLEX you'll have a peace of mind but this is going to be the longest 48 hours of my life! Good luck! definitely keep us updated :)
  15. OMG! good for you, I told my self before I graduated nursing school that I was going to start studying for the NCLEX but it didn't really happen. I say you sign up for Kaplan and stick to another material aside kaplan - I think Saunders was great. It summed up everything with its rationale. I reviewed for a month , don't start stressing yourself - its so far away! Studying hard will take all the anxiety away. Your state of mind will be in a better place if you know that you prepared. Just know that not everything you're going to study is not going to come out, which disappointed me because I only got thrown a few diseases, most of it was just prioritizing. Do a lot of questions!!! Kaplan qbank questions were really similar as far as the nclex goes , wording and everything. I felt prepared and didn't feel like what am I reading! Good luck! no need to stress yourself now, you got a few months to go :)
  16. I'm really sorry to hear that - hey at least you keep going and doesn't give up! I would suggest like everybody else to do Kaplan. The advantage of it is not for the content - they teach you how to look at each question, I took my NCLEX today for the first time - and I can honestly say the NCLEX q's were so similar to the Kaplan q's. Also they give you diagnostic and readiness test to see where you are. It gives you insight of what you need to study and focus on. Initially I was really weak with management of care - I worked on it for a week and studied nothing but management of care and by the time I took my readiness test I understood the concept etc. Needless to say I got tons of management of care q's on my NCLEX. Also I think it's better to stick to 2 materials, either do kaplan and saunders which worked great for me because Saunders gave me the rationales and Kaplan kept me focused on the material that's mostly tested. I've learned in nursing school, it's always good to have another source aside from what you have. It gives you more insight. I hope this doesn't discourage you, keep going!? :)
  17. Thank you!! omg tell me about it , man I don't know how to take that....How do you feel about the whole NCLEX-exam itself when you took it?
  18. @ NurseThis21 - Do you really think the PVT works?? I'm kind of iffy about it .... it does give you some peace of mind (somewhat) ... I've checked it 3 times today, kept getting the same pop-up saying Im registered for another exam....Im in NY and we have the 48 hr quick result...NY BON doesn't post your name on there until 3-4 days , by then we wouldn't got our result....I really do HOPE TO GOD I passed, I would be devastated, although it won't be the end of the world
  19. I feel like kaplan helped in a sense where when I was answering the NCLEX questions - I felt confident. Maybe I guess I was doing 200 q's a day the last 2 weeks prior to my exam. I was scoring between 65-72% in my Question trainers and 66% as my overall qbank score. I read all the rationale for each qbank q's and it was very helpful. I felt the NCLEX q's werent as hard as the kaplan....But as far as studying the content, I mostly focused on Safe and effective environment, physiological adaptation, Reduction of risk, pharm and basic care and comfort. I felt like those made up most of the q's in the NCLEX. Kaplan doesn't provide in class content review, they have LOD video that goes over the content, I also did that - I thought it was helpful. My suggestion is just study, study and do a lot of questions and read the rationales - I tried to do Saunders just for content review but I found some conflicting materials between kaplan and saunders so I just stood with Kaplan. Also what I did during my test, I wrote the Decision Tree - just in case I get stuck in a question, I used it in a couple of question. You can't really use it with analysis q's. You'll be fine!!! Just do what works for you. And make sure to bring a DRIVERS LICENSE, in the midst of the craziness, preparing for the NCLEX I didn't bother to read what type of IDs they dont accept - LEARNERS PERMIT being one of them, I assumed any state ID will do (stupid of me I know) ... I almost forfeited my test and as if I needed that extra stress....Luckily the guy in the PV Center was really nice and gave me an hour to get my US passport ::PHEWWW:: You'll do great! think positive, remember you gave it your all and at least you can say you did your best!
  20. So I took the NCLEX-RN today for the first time. A little bit confused, my gut is telling me I did good ( I walked out feeling good) at the same time most of my nursing friends said that the NCLEX was very hard, and I can't really agree to that... I think the exam was fair and certainly had its hard parts and a lot of analysis q's....I prepared for a month, hard core studying...I did kaplan class + all the qbank q's + answered all the question trainer....I got a lot of SATA's, Priority, One med. calc, 3 alternative questions and tons of infection control....I feel as if the kaplan questions were a lot harder, I did the PVT and I got the "pop up" ... I just don't know... Im hoping for good results...did anybody else feel like me?????:yawn: Charm:heartbeat
  21. hey you said you did a summer externship at bellevue ... was it hard to get in? also where did you get your info regards to what you need to submit and stuff..?
  22. not really an international student, Im not overseas - but I live in New York State .. I dont know if the same rules apply
  23. retrogression? sorry for being not up to date but what is it?
  24. ok so I called the NY state board of Nursing - and just to clear all this misconception up, they still let students WITHOUT SSN# take the exam BUT they will hold onto your license until you get your situation fixed...Im currently in the state of NY and was devastated when I heard they weren't even letting students without SSN take the exam, California is the state that is doing it NOT NY according to the lady i spoke to. so is there a way I can get a hospital to release my license after taking the exam?? bc I know there are hospitals petitioning nurses etc.
  25. thanks you! but just out of curiousity were they able to release your license (if you did take the exam) with a valid working visa? if so does your status change once you start working for a hospital?
