  1. Wow you are ridiculously helpful!!!! I will definitelykeep in touch. Thanks so much for all the advice. I still don't know who I have for clinicals but I'll let you know :) you're the BEST
  2. Thank you so much for that post! It was so encouraging :) I start next week and I just started getting so stressed out...that post couldn't have come at a more perfect time!
  3. Haha WOW you've gotten lots of responses on this--I didn't read through them, but I bet lots of people are maaad!!! Lol. I have always wanted to become a nurse for the nursing...BUT I am also excited at the prospect of good pay. I don't think it's bad to want to get into it for the money, though---that's the point of a career--to make a living!! If you're not into it though, you'll probably be miserable...but that's true of any career.
  4. What I would do is finish the transcription job first--that you can do while at home to bring in some money while your baby's at home. My mom does MT, and she loves it--obviously it's not for everyone, but she started years ago, and now has her own business doing it Anyway, she did it when I was still living at home and it was great to have her home every day--on my sick days home from school, etc.... I think for a mom with kids in the house it's a great job to have--make your own schedule, work when you can, as much as you can, etc...so I think it'd be a great job to have while your kids are home, and you can always start nursing school after they're in school...but that's just my thoughts :)
  5. I was working full time when I got accepted into nursing school. I'm starting school in a few weeks, and my job is up in the air right now. They're deciding whether or not they'll let me stay part time, so I've made a plan for either way. I definitely can't afford not to work, so if they decide to let me go, I'll be looking for jobs elsewhere (waitressing, wal mart, a hospital, anything!). I plan on getting insurance through my school if I need to--I don't want to lose my coverage....so if I can't find a job that will offer benefits that's what I'll do Also, I filled out a FAFSA and got a loan through that, so I'm not actually paying for the tuition right now--I'll pay that off when I graduate. I don't really know what I'd do if I had to pay my tuition all right now lol--even with my job I couldn't afford that! Maybe set up a payment plan with my school or something....? Congratulations on getting accepted!!!
  6. You can do just as well online as in a classroom, you just have to make sure you're not lazy about it. When I started online classes, I kind of started slacking because there wasn't as much accountability as there was when you were in a class setting. But once I realized I still had to study every week and go over the material every week, it was much easier :) Good luck!
  7. yep you're right! :) I went in today to hand in my packet of stuff we had to do, and I asked about it and they said exactly that...thanks!
  8. "You will not have another clinical this easy again!! " Haha ok I'll try to appreciate it while it lasts!! Yeah I keep trying to just tell myself that no one else is going to have some expert nursing knowledge in my class that I don't have, and that's making me feel better
  9. It's on my list of needed supplies for school, but I'm not sure where I'm supposed to get that...or what's in it for that matter...
  10. I didn't read the answers currently posted, so sorry if this is repeated...but have you filled out a FAFSA? I have no money after paying rent and my other bills--I can't afford to pay for school. All I did was do my FAFSA though, and that automatically gets me a loan for enough to cover the cost of everything. It is a loan, so you have to pay it back, but you don't have to until after you graduate.
  11. I am doing exactly what you are!! I started 2 years ago with just the non-nursing classes...the microbiology, A&P, etc because I work full time and didn't have the money not to!...and now this fall I am FINALLY starting the Nursing program to get my RN... To me, it seemed like it was never going to end! Like I was just going to be taking classes to get into Nursing school for the rest of my life lol. But now there's finally a light at the end of the tunnel--only 2 years to go. I actually think doing it this way benefited me because I learned how to get organized and take good notes, and stuff like that so that I am more prepared for Nursing this Fall... You can do it!! It'll go by faster than you think....soon this semester will be over, then the next, then you'll be ready to graduate lol.
  12. I'm starting my first week of nursing school next month, and my clinicals start that first week. They said that for the first week we aren't going out to the location (a nursing home...) but we will be the week after. I don't understand how I'll be able to do clinicals with only a week and a half of nursing lectures--how will we know what we're doing?? What sort of stuff do you do in your first weeks of clinicals? Maybe that's the part I'm confused about....I was just thinking, I don't think we'll have too much 'nursing' knowledge in that short period of time.... Thanks!
