It's the largest district in the state! Covers 5 cities had 25 elementary schools, 10 middle schools and 5 high schools!

Do You Like Being A School Nurse?
I have another interview for a district nurse...one nurse for 39,000 students. Is that crazy? Salary is only 40k with no benefits. I really want a school nurse job but this is al crazy for having a BSN and such a large population of students shouldn't pay better?!

Average pay?
They have agreed to $30 which isn't too bad considering the offer was $25. Still no benefits. I just have to get back with them with a final answer. I don't know why to do! There aren't many school nurse jobs in my area so I feel like I should grab if while I can! I'm just worried about no benefits and no time off...what do I do when I need a day off for my own kids?! Also do you do per diem to pick up hours over breaks and summer? Since it's hourly there would be no pay during those times. Do I take it or leave it?!!
-
Average pay?
Ugh! I just don't understand why school nurses are not paid fairly for their experience and degree....at least provided benefits would be nice., but Not even a paid personal/ sick day!

Average pay?
What is a typical hourly rate for a BSN prepared school nurse...this is a job with absolutely NO benefits?! I'm trying to negotiate an hourly rate. I know I will take a pay cut....I make $36 at the hospital with benefits...I just can't go down to $25/hr and pay for daycare!

Do You Like Being A School Nurse?
I have a job offer at a school but the pay is low and there are no benefits/ no paid days off etc., My kids cannot go to the school with me either. I'm a little concerned that I will miss out events for my own kids- preschool aged and toddler., but in the long run it might be good to be on a similar schedule and School jobs are hard to fInd in my area....It's an hourly job not salaried so no pay over breaks and summer. Do you LOVE school nursing? What are the pros that you think outweigh the low pay and no benefits ?

Anyone work for sunbelt staffing?
Oh wow....I know school RN's are paid low but my hospital job is $36/hr. I thought agencies were competitive with pay

Anyone work for sunbelt staffing?
Anyone work as a school nurse through sunbelt staffing? They have a position posted in a local low socioeconomic school district....how is the pay? How are they to work for?

Mom and school nurse...
I wish this job had benefits...it's rare to find school nurse jobs in my area so I should take it while I can, but at the same time I'm bit sure it's financially a good idea., a huge paycut and no benefits
-
Mom and school nurse...
This is part time hourly no benefits...only get paid when schools in session. I would need supplemental income

Mom and school nurse...
I posted this in another forum and here is the question....What about missing events at your kids school like class parties and field trips because you have to be at your school all day? How does this work out? Does it bother you? I have an opportunity to work at a school but could not send my kids to the school with me...there are no benefits to the job such as sick or vacation time.....so I really could not take off unless absolutely necessary....but I wouldn't miss any after school events! Pay is also horrible but I really want to take the job., I've subbed and know I'll love it!

Need some support
I'm only getting one 8 hr shift a week in my current contingent job, which isn't paying the bills! I know if I moved to the float pool I would get more $ and more hours, but the minimum requirements are 40hrs a month which is a lot if I'm at school M-F and then have to pick up those hours on the weekend...with an infant and toddler at home! :/ I know doing both will be way too much.

Need some support
Thanks for all the support, my husband wants me to do whatever I want and will make me happy . He agree's that routine is important, but so is paying the bills! I do think about the future and when my kids are in school, having their schedule is great but not being able to volunteer in their classrooms and go on field trips would be a bummer. I still have a lot to think about. Thanks:)

For those that work per diem-when do you work?
I just posted in a new thread that I'm considering going back to work just at hospital. I am contingent but not getting many hours this summer I have been trying to pick up on non school day and holidays. They recently changed the contingent requirement and now it's 36hrs per month. I have little ones at Home so working m-f at school and working almost every weekend to get in my hours is not going to work. I count on that extra money because I am paid hourly at the school and only work and get paid when kids are in school. I either have to find a way to make it work financially without that extra income or just go back to working the hospital...which I really don't want to do :/

Need some support
Hi all, I am a school nurse and I Love it! I work part time at my school but everyday from 8-2. As you know the pay is low and I don't get benefits either( I get my husbands) I am paid hourly and only when school is in session. I'm per diem at the hospital but i am not getting any hours especially this the summer ! Money is tight but we are surviving ...for now. . I am contemplating going back to pt or Ft 12 hour shifts at the hospital. I have a toddler and another on the way. I would make more money and have more days 4-5 days at home with my babies but I think I would not be as happy going back to floor nursing...hospital work would give me a better schedule with my little ones right now but when they are older, working in the school is idea. School jobs are hard to find in my area! I love working at school but I also love my babies so I am torn... Is it worth it to keep doing the job I love or should I go back to staff nursing?! I guess I need a little pick me up, a reminder of why school nursing is so great. Thanks :)

How do I survive a crazy schedule, with kid, husband who works even crazier schedule?
I currently have a job that is M-F 8-2, no weekends or holidays..However, I have a toddler and baby #2 on the way and I'm trying to decide if I should go back to working 12hour shifts.. I can work per diem since I don't need benefits and make a little more money only working 2-3days a week. The trade off is some weekends and holidays (although I can pick my schedule) along with the chaos and stress of floor nursing! I really don't know what's best for my family?! I get home by 3pm now and have most of the afternoon at home, but would it be better to have more days off?? Each have their pros and cons and I need daycare either way.... It's stressing me out! Any advice?! What do you prefer as a mom?

Young New Mom. Better to stay full time or per diem. Do you regret it?
I currently have a pretty relaxed job that is M-F 8-2, no weekends or holidays..However, I have a toddler and baby #2 on the way and I'm trying to decide if I should go back to working 12hour shifts.. I can work per diem since I don't need benefits and make a little more money only working 2-3days a week. It's stressing me out! Any advice?! What do you prefer as a mom?
