There is Unitek in Santa Clara & Fremont; cost $ 38,000 for 8 month program. You can apply to Mission College's (a CC in Santa Clara) as an 'advanced entry' into their RN program; other CC's in the area have that option too for about $ 4,500. Warning: ALL CC's are impacted here. Unitek - great option but very EXPENSIVE!!! I would do it though, if I could afford it. The Bay Area is wonderful; however, we are flooded with RN's. I don't mean to be a downer, just trying to give the whole story. Good Luck!

Actually I am called NCP (SSF campus) to see if I can get in there instead of Unitek. I do NOT like the way I have been treated by Unitek after my enrollment was done - they are very sweet until you're in and after that - very RUDE!!!! NCP is $ 8400 cheaper and A LOT closer to home. If I cannot get into NCP, I will end up at Unitek starting Jan. 5. I hope not! You will have to see what classes transfer from whatever CC you went to (nothing from Unitek will transfer) if you want to go on and get your ASN or BSN. Good Luck

I replied to you before - I live across the bay from you. What I have (FINALLY) decided to do after talking to others and a lot of tossing and turning is pay for the LVN via private school and apply for the bridge at one of the 4 community colleges that offer it. Like you possibly, I can't stomach paying $ 67k for my degree (an ADN/ASN at that). If you really want to obtain your RN, it is a decision you will have to make. (There are part time programs [NCP Hayward]) where you can keep your job and get your LVN and Gurnick in San Mateo has an evening/weekend program...again where you can keep your job and get your LVN. It's a tough decision-I have been waiting for the lottery at my CC for 2 years. Boo Hiss!!! Good Luck. If you want to blab further, send me a private message.

Oops! I just added to my own message to myself...too busy studying to finish this semester! I thought you were in No. California. I don't know what private schools are available in GA. I doubt they have a DIRECT route to RN. Every school seems to be a '2 step' process.

The only private school to get an RN is Unitek and their 2 stage ADN program; however, you need to first get your LVN in 11 months at a price tag of $ 33k and then after you have had 6 - 12 months of experience can you apply for the other 8 month part of the program for another $ 33k and get your RN. If you can swallow the price tag, go for it. I was going to do this but I have decided to go to NCP in SSF if they have room otherwise I will stick with Unitek (I already am enrolled in Unitek) and enter a community college bridge program (there are 3 or 4 in the area). Final cost = $ 38k vs $ 67k. For such a nursing shortage as they claim, they don't make it easy to get there if you're cut out for it! Good Luck!

What schools are you looking at that it will cost that much??? I am planning on doing the LVN program at a private school ($33k) as a stepping stone to an RN program b/c community colleges are sooo impacted!!! I have already been waiting 2+ years and it could be 2 more. Boo hiss! It is worth it? It only will be worth it when I am an RN in 2 years from Jan '09 for sure rather than starting who knows when at a community college! Good Luck!

How long ago were you looking for work in SF Bay Area? Moving out of area is NOT an option!!! I am in desperate need of guidance. I am about to start an LVN program in a month and am scared I will put A LOT of $ out and won't be able to find a job to support myself and my children after graduating. I 110% plan to get my RN ASAP after but 99% of LVN-RN programs require work experience before acceptance. Where do LVN's look for work? Any light you could shed would be huge! I am having deep anxiety about this!

Hi- I have the same problem with my elbows and the skin around my thumbs. After trying EVERYTHING!!! on the market from paraffin wax dips to Mary Kay something or other (Satin Hands?), the only tried/true product I found was Eucerin Aquafor. It HAS TO BE THE AQUAFOR product (Eucerin has several products). It is quite 'greasy' feeling; however, it works within the first few applications, but don't stop using even after healing has occurred. A second runner up to this fine product is 'Miracle Hand Repair' (yes - a 'as seen on TV' product). Good Luck! Happy healing hands with the Aquafor.

I would be concerned too...my concern for you is that these classes are extremely important and by taking 3 in a condensed format (summer) you will not get the information you need from any of the classes. You will get there in your own time...relax! I know it is hard to hear this but now that I am at the point of starting school, in hindsight, it is the very best advice I was given and can pass on...Good Luck!

I would NOT recommend doing BOTH classes at the same time...not to say it cannot be done; however, Micro will be A LOT EASIER if you take Chem first (most schools [like mine]) won't allow you to take Micro without Chem first as a prerequisite. You could try it and drop the Micro if it gets tough. The other thing is Micro is an essential class for Nursing so you will want to ace it for your transcript! If you do both, you may not be able to put the effort in that it takes. You will need the Chem for metabolic pathways (i.e. Glycolysis). Hope this helps! Good Luck!
