  1. Those are good scores. Just trust that you know the material and take the exam as scheduled. Make sure to take a day or two off just before the exam to rest and relax (if possible =-). Good Luck.
  2. Hi, just wanted to welcome you to the site. I would definitely read some of the stickies at the top of the student forum to familiarize yourself with the rules and all the different resources available. I'm still very new to the site as well but I have found a lot of useful information just by digging around. As far as your question...I too sometimes wonder what constitutes a meaningful post here but I'm sure as long as you are genuine in what you post and follow the forum rules you will be fine. If all your posts were "congratulations" to every new person that passed the NCLEX then that would probably not be considered meaningful posts. I've noticed that the longer I explore the site the more questions I begin to come up with. Some of them get asked or answered by others in previous threads. If not then I create a new post. :nuke:
  3. I took the Kaplan Complete and unfortunately I found the course to be confusing. I tend to overanalyze things anyway. I'm sure I learned a few things from it and I did find the prioritization questions very helpful but the rest of it didn't seem very useful or applicaple to the actual NCLEX exams that I have taken. I'm currently using the Saunders and feel that although it seems incredibly simple and straight forward it is more like the 2 actual NCLEX tests that I took. I wish I would have used it sooner. I also think the Saunders book layout is more user friendly than the kaplan book that comes with the course. I only used the Kaplan to prep for those 2 tests and failed. I also noticed alot of inconsistencies with Kaplan and this ultimately just confused me. Ultimately we all learn differently so you need to figure out what is best for you and what feels right. Good Luck!
  4. Maybe this is the long way and is different from what others have suggested but, Given: -1000ml of solution -1.5mEq kcl per 100ml= 15mEq kcl total in 1000ml Question wants to know how much kcl per 110ml so I asked myself how long would it take 1000ml to run at 110ml/hr. 1000ml/110=9.0909 hrs Now take your total kcl of 15 which is in the 1000ml of solution and divide it by 9.0909hrs. 15/9.0909=1.6500017 this equals the amount of kcl in mEq that will run at 110ml/hr. Now you can multiple that number by any time frame you want. So...110ml/hr of solution with 1.65mEq kcl will deliver a total of 440ml with 6.6mEq kcl in 4hrs.
  5. I also received "near passing" in all areas accept one. Curious if anyone out their received "above the standard" and still failed the test?
  6. I realize the answers will vary because we are all different and learn differently but I am curious non-the-less. I am currently studying 2-3 hrs on the days I work and 4-6 hrs on my days off. I have been trying to mix up my studying by doing questions and then reading material that corresponds to the content areas that I score low in. I used the Kaplan course (good for strategy) but find that the questions are not as varied and helpful as the saunders (better content material). I am currently using the Saunders 4th ed. and the accompanying green saunders which has extra questions.
  7. Congratulations! That was a great uplifting story. I think up until now I have not shifted my thinking to believe that I can actually pass this test but that is starting to change thanks to reading stories like yours. Thanks!
  8. Hi, Just Curious how much time on average people are spending studying for the NCLEX and what percentage is dedicated to reviewing/reading vs doing questions? Even if you have passed the test already please feel free to include what you did. Please also include what materials/books you used. Thanks
  9. This relates to Suzanne's plan. I will ramble as I try to get all this straight: 1. I've started posting to get up to 15 so I can PM for the plan. 2. I'm starting the first step as outlined under the guidelines. What I'm confused about is the time line. If I understand correctly it is suggested that I not rush to re-test but I cannot request Susanne's plan if the test date is more than 2 months away- I can officially retest within 45 days of a failed test but under the plan (Suzanne's) I thought I read that 45 days is considered not enough time to prep. So... that is a fifteen day window in which I will go from not being ready to being ready?? Keep in mind that although I've failed twice I have also been prepping and studying that whole time so although it has not been effective to pass it's been good for something. I also have to contend with the fact that once I submit a request I will receive a potential response within 2 wks -this is 14 days. Once I PM Suzanne I need to include my new scheduled test date but I'm confused when this should be so that I can be eligible for the plan. If I've confused you then good because I too am confused. I know this may be a funny question but why not just post the plan so people can use it. Maybe I just misread something along the way. Thanks for the clarification:nuke:
  10. As previously stated by another member: 1) good pay 2) flexible hours 3) job security 4) respectable profession 5) inherent rewards in caring for people 6) lots of options as far as continuing education and job growth I needed a degree that would pay for itself and would provide me with a descent income. The option to travel is a nice incentive as well.
  11. I just learned that I failed the NCLEX a second time too. I feel your frustration about the letter, it is very vague. I had one area below the standard and the rest were near the standard but nothing was above the standard...what a bummer. The first time it shut off mid way and the second time I timed out. It sound like most of us replying are interested in Suzanne's plan. I figure at this point I have nothing to lose...except my NCLEX fees-Ouch! Keep you head up and continue to study!
  12. I'm currently working in the OR as a scrub and am waiting to test for my RN. At that point I will shift into a circulating role or I may try and work in CCU or ER. Love the OR but it lacks some of the autonomy nurses on other units seem to have. Maybe the grass is not always greener.
  13. I'm sorry, OP you need to worry about taking care of the patients and less about attracting the opposite sex or smelling good because it's "who you are." To me that sounds very self-centered. Seriously, we wear pajamas to work and your worried about how you smell. If it disagrees with the patient and/or coworkers then the professional thing to do is stop wearing cologne to work.
  14. I'm glad you mentioned this... I've picked up multiple books and found the different rationales and strategies to be contradictory and really confusing. My favorite is differing Lab values. You would think there would be some consistency.
  15. Nice Tip. Thanks for the info.
