Learning to assert self with NCP's/PCT's
Thanks for the replies and input! I am starting to feel a little bit better and I do try to plan the day with the NCP's when I see them. I set an approximate schedule for baths and have found that the day does go by much smoother, I will take all suggestions and lead by example and do what I can for the patient. Because that is who I am there for!

Thank you. I think this makes sense and does completely describe what I am feeling.

Learning to assert self with NCP's/PCT's
Okay so I am almost and old new grad.. been working for about 6 months now. I am having a hard time asserting myself to the PCT's/NCP's on the unit. Most of them are older in their 50's and sometimes I feel that I am being taken advantage of because I am a new nurse. I know that they are busy. I know that they are stretched to their limit. I don't ask for help unless I know I need more than one person to lift, reposition, or give a bath. Whenever I ask, I always get the I am too busy attitude/tone, I can't do it right now and sometimes they are outright sitting at the nurses station telling me that they can't. I absolutely don't call them almost for the entire day... when I do, I get this attitude, I've done vitals for them on my patients, glucose checks, entered their vital signs, been more than accomodating. But it's become a regular thing. So what I'm asking is what have you found that helps? i.e what to say? I need advice!

Nclex anxiety,,, february 2012 test
I agree that was a great book to do review (PDA by LaCharity), it went over the main and basic concepts AND it was a thin, non overwhelming book. Just purely questions from each subject and it helps to narrow down your weak spots. At first the questions were a little hard, but after a while it became easier. This and using the saunders CD for ?'s in my weak areas. Don't become overloaded with what is available out there.. or try to figure out which one is the best. Keep it simple. Easier said than done, but that was the trap I was in until I just told myself just do this don't think about what other material will be better. Passed in 75. Also do as many SATA ?'s available, it's a great time saver and you learn more from this type of question than a single answer question. Great book for that SATA by Saunders.

I would guess that they need to officially accept you by mailing a letter, and an over the phone answer or an email is not official. She is probably getting a lot of phone calls. I am not sticking up for her nor do I know her but I can only imagine.. her frustrations. Her shoes are probably full too. I agree another person helping her would probably alleviate her frustrations though.

Just do what you would normally do don't sit and wait for the letter, get a job.. because who knows what cohort you'll be in. At least you would have started your job, invested enough time to the company and they may be able and want to work with your schedule if you decide to work part time. Look into other programs and see when you can apply, at least you would have an idea of a back up plan if you don't get in. I waited 5 months after I turned in my application to get my letter. I submitted my application in November and did not hear back from them until April-May. I was stressing out, and was going to just settle on waiting until we went to the next duty station since his tour here was almost done. Right when I was to tell my husband that the letter came. So just do what your doing try not to stress, have a back up plan in place, and patiently wait (however hard that may be, I know!!) Maybe your in Cohort 3 or 4. So if you definitely are planning and wanting to go to TCC take whatever courses you may need to finish the RN associate degree.. like PHI 226, the computer requirement so all you have to concentrate on is just nursing classes once you get in. Good luck. :redbeathe

Anyone waiting on acceptance letter from Tidewater Community College VA
I applied for early decision (December 15) and found out in April, it was weird because the letter was dated March 10...I was stressing out and bugging my husband about the mail because he did get home before me. Although I hear you do not have to wait as long if you apply during the May deadline. Nonetheless the wait is excruciating, no matter how long. I did get A's in all my prereqs did not have to take a nursing entrance exam since TCC is the only place I applied. Can't afford to go the BSN route right now, but will eventually... when does it end?
