  1. Nurse patient ratio at our facility is 1 RN that is the charge nurse, and has her 4-8 patients, and is in charge of the 4 LPN's with their 6-8 patients and 1 CNA. Accountability and responsibility too high.
  2. I Love the Dollar Tree lol. You can wander around mindless and buy gadgets you don't need or don't have the time to use. ha ha
  3. i THINK THE SUPERVISORS WERE SLEEPING TOO. lol Just kidding, but seriously there has to be more to the story than what was actually told.
  4. I don't know why nurses get so irrate when they hear someone is doing a job they like and is sharing, but it seems only when it regards agency ect..why?. Every job has its disadvantages. Put up with politics or put up with complexity of doing your taxes? Both do one same thing CARE FOR PATIENTS:)
  5. Oh froggylegs you are so right!! The turnover rate is becoming so bad, hopefully the hospital will still be open for Christmas! But getting back to the subject at hand every facility is different on how they handle their vacation. I agree that when you are thoughtful enough to work for someone on a holiday they want with their family, then they won't work for you: as the saying goes" if it happens once shame on you, happens twice shame on me"
  6. Do you happen to work in Louisiana? Our ratio is a disney land dream made up by non nursing personnel for corporate numbers. Do not allow them to give you more than you can safely do. I understand because you are new you don't want to sound lazy, whining ect.. But remember patient care and safety NUMBER ONE PRIORITY. Our hospital has no stepdown, telemetry or intermediate unit that is separated. Patient is either in ICU or Medsurg. They will get pushed to med surg if they need a bed in ICU. The only criteria that does not allow a patient no matter how acute to medsurg is if they are on a drip that needs titration. Period.!!Acuity levels should determine as well as staff mix ratio the number of patients to take. Hopefully we will get there soon. Good Luck but make sure you follow the correct chain of command when you no longer feel you can handle another patient safely. The reason is only you can keep your license if you adhere to the standards and if revoked only you can get it back.
  7. I gave my two weeks resignation after 12 years of service because of very unsafe practices. went to human resources and asked the correct process ect.. One week after my resignation they felt I did not fulfill my contract and cut off everything right then. I was a house float RN and protested working a certain unit that patient nurse ratio was unheard of. I offerred to work any other unit in the hospital every day until my effective last day. Would not budge. HR even said I can see both sides, had to remind him there are no sides just patient care and safety. Any hospital can find a reason to let you go even if you go about it correctly, because the wording " it is to the benefit of the hospital". But remember, you want to leave for a reason that is now consuming your time weighing options. I was scared to leave because of the security "so I thought" I don't regret my decision, just disappointed in my administration. Good Luck and it will be okay:)
  8. Now this is sad when nurses feel they have to defend themselves to other nurses. No matter what department, level of management you're in or how long you have been a nurse, the whole reason why we started is for good safe patient care. We all are supposed to be following the same standards of care whether you are a nurse manager or nurse administrator or a staff nurse.
  9. All I could do is cry when I read your poem.
  10. I just gave my 2 weeks notice last Thursday when I have been working at the same hospital since 1990, been through 5 administrations and 8 DON's. Response to my loyalty was "you are not eligible to be rehired if you don't work where I have you scheduled". My schedule was posted when I resigned and they filled in shifts on the unit I felt was unsafe because of the ratio 5 days after my resignation. Did not care that I have been loyal to the hospital and employed for that length of time and never took sick leave. As a matter of fact I am maxed out on my EIB. Seniority does not mean much, at least not to this company. Very sad!
