I would recommend getting started now even if it's just to take one pre-req at a time! You'll be so glad you did! Don't give up!

Hey there! I was accepted to CCRI last summer on the merit based application and my scores were very similar to yours (I am just finishing up Nursing I!). I don't have my accuplacer scores in front of me, but they were probably close to yours. Sounds like you'll do great on the TEAS, I found it to be very similar to the Accuplacer and I got an average of 86.5 (with 99 in reading 98 in English and 81 in Math, I just tanked the science portion, but they don't count it). I also had a 4.0 on all the pre-reqs. As far as I know, there's no longer a waiting list, so your chances look pretty excellent. I think if there's a ton of applications (as in more apps than spots in the program) they will then choose people who had higher grades in Anatomy & Physiology, etc. Best of luck with your application!

Hi there! I'm starting nursing I in a couple of weeks at the Lincoln campus. I think a lot of the same instructors travel between campuses and teach at all of them. So you're pretty much getting the same instructors at each. That being said, I've done all of my pre-reqs at Lincoln, and I love it for it's convenient location and there's always plenty of parking.

How many hours do you have to work to qualify to renew your RI CNA license? I got my CNA license in October, but am starting school in January, and probably won't get a CNA job until June. My license expires in 6/2011...so how many hours do I have to work before than to qualify for renewal? Thanks in advance!

Oh, and I'm interested to see what they'll be talking about for two hours. The packet we got in the mail was pretty straightforward about almost everything!

Hi Lisa! I took Micro this past summer. It was pretty intense, and there was at least one exam and one lab quiz a week, since the class is so concentrated. The plus side is that the tests happen so quickly, you're more likely to retain the information. Class is four nights/days a week, but I was very glad to have done it and gotten it out of the way!

I was glad to see we have more classmates too! I talked to my friend about it (she's in Nursing II), and she said that people are generally slow to register because they think they're either automatically in because they're accepted or they think that the computer will add them in later somehow! I haven't heard anything about Orientation yet. I hope we hear soon, just so we can have some time to get our books/supplies and get ready. It's only a little over two months away!

North, I hope you're right! I also figure that people may not be as quick to register because they're "guaranteed" a slot once they've been accepted to the program. It's hard to imagine they would cancel the whole program, so hopefully we will get some more classmates. A smaller class will be nice though. With the holidays coming, things are really going to fly by. Hopefully we'll find out more soon! If anyone hears news, post here and I'll do the same!

I thought of that today. Do you think there could be more people who were accepted after this open application period that could be registering? I will be crushed if the class is canceled.

I can't believe I'm finally registered for Nursing I! Time is flying. Anyone hear yet about Orientation? I'm wondering where/when it's going to be.

Hey everyone, Thought this would be the best place to come for firsthand advice on some things! I recently completed the CNA course at CCRI and got my CNA license. I would love to get a job in a hospital or other facility where I can get some good experience. My only condition is that I'm also a mom and I would need to work in the afternoons/evenings/nights. I'm also starting the nursing program at CCRI in January. I know that will be a huge amount of work, especially while balancing it with my daughter and husband! So, I guess my questions are... Would it be worth it to start working now and go to a per diem position (if possible) while in school? Or should I just wait to find something for next summer? Also, it seems nearly impossible to get a job at the lifespan hospitals (where I'd love to get my foot in the door-I've heard so many good things). Would it be worth it experience wise to take a job in an LTC? Are there any other hospital/clinic type settings you would recommend? Thanks in advance for any answers/advice!

I totally forgot that they have another application program going on right now, so I figure we'll hear about orientation after all of those apps have been sifted through.

It's from the office of enrollment services. If I remember correctly, the envelope had a return of the Warwick campus' address on there. I'd definitely give Ruby a call since registration is in a few weeks! If you go to ccri.edu and sign into your pipeline, then click on the 'for students' tab, look to the left of the page and it should have your Academic Profile info. That's where I can see my major has been changed. Let us know what you hear!

I got a letter in the mail last week. It came in a big envelope, and just had a bunch of school info in it; he letter itself was the only thing that had to do with the program! The rest was stuff that you would get when you first applied to the school like financial aid info and campus info. In the beginning of October I also got a call and they said they'd be calling later in the fall to let me know about orientation. I think we should also be set to register for classes too, on November 9th.

Yes! I took the test two weeks ago this Friday! I passed! :) It was really a long day. That was the hardest part. I took and finished the written test by 2:30 and then I wasn't called in to take the skills until 5:45 (but I had to wait around early, because some of the people for 5pm didn't show up and there was a chance I could be called early). My best advice would be to try to relax as much as possible, which obviously insn't easy. Don't forget to introduce yourself, leave the call light, and provide privacy! Good luck! Hey everyone! I'm studying for my upcoming skills test, and I'm really nervous. While we were taking our class, we saw lots of groups come in for the test, and many failed! If you passed, how did you study for it? Any tips or hints are much appreciated! Thanks!

Oh yeah! Don't let anyone freak you out! I took micro this summer and it makes it WAY tougher than it would have been spread out over a regular semester. I mean, in a summer class you're going four days a week, and there's some kind of test/lab quiz every week. You'll be fine! Good luck!

I loved Physiology! I thought it was really interesting, and tied together a lot of the concepts for me. Some of the experiments were pretty cool too. The best part was that while you do have to pass the lab, it wasn't weighted as heavily as it was in Anatomy. I took it in Lincoln last Spring and found it very manageable while I was taking Dosage (and caring for my house and baby!). Good luck!

You really do have to study and focus on what the instructor tells you! There's a ton of info in the books, so they'll help you narrow it down to what you should concentrate on. There are a lot of medical abbreviations on the tests as well, so learning those is also essential. The lab is also very intense, but you just need to keep practicing the skills. It's pretty easy to get the BCI check. I know you can go down to get one, but it's just as easy to do it through the mail! That's how I did mine http://www.riag.ri.gov/civilcriminal/criminalid.php just send them a notarized letter saying you want a copy of your BCI, a copy of your driver's license, a check for 5$ and a self-addressed stamped envelope, and you should have it back within a week! It only lasts four months, so I had to do one when I submitted my original application, and I just did another so I can start clinicals in a few weeks. The sooner you get the BCI and the form (that you'll get the day of the test) filled out by your doctor, the quicker you'll get a letter for sign up.

Hey there! I'm currently in the CCRI CNA course... The pretest was very easy! It's just a reading comprehension test. I think there were 50 questions, and they'll correct it right there. I believe you need to get 45 out of 50 to be accepted? I forget, but they'll let you know. If you google CNA reading comprehension tests, I'm sure you can find some good practice tests, just to get you familiar with the format, but I found it to be pretty easy. Once you pass the reading test, they will give you a form you need to have filled out by your doctor. You'll also need to get a BCI (background check) from the Attorney General's office. Once you get all of that and send it back in, you'll get a letter in the mail telling you when the next sign up for class will be. Get there EARLY! They fill up so quickly, and you'll need to be there very early to make sure you get your spot! The class is pretty intense, you'll really just have to study what the instructor tells you to focus on, and practice the skills you learn in lab, that's the key. Good luck!
