usually there is job security going to the prison/jail setting if even for a little while. i would say buyer beware. i have responded in regards to this program elsewhere on this forum. costs 5- 7 thousand. no refunds. for as much as it costs they should pay for and help set up your testing after each class. this is a book publishing group. very enticing but i don't know of anyone who has finished it but many who have signed up an are doing the school inclass bridge programs instead and must pay for both. when asking friends about it listen well to those who are not new to it. we had a wave of people sign up on the word of someone who just started and there is reward for getting others to sign up. i prefer something more tangable and am looking elswhere. good luck

I work with a lot of LVNs who also bought into this program and many want to shoot themselves in the foot including myself. I get a stomach ache when I look at the books sitting in my closet. 1) you will have to spend a non refundable about 5-7 thousand and continue to make monthly payments until paid off----they make financing VERY easy. 2) Everything is distanced and YOU have to pave your own way for everything including sigining yourself up and paying extra to take the tests. My advise is this if you have them come to your house to give you more info- have someone with you as support to help you NOT sign up at that visit but wait until you've checked all your options other than them. The sales pitch is very enticing. Remember how we all passed the program in a group with due dates set out for us the support of doing it together with an end date in sight if we just did what our instructors told us to do. This is not the same and I feel that I am " handicaped" for this type of study as are most nurses. Most people do not continue after signing up ( contract) - they find another route fully online or in a classroom and still have to pay for that. I am looking for a program where there is a place people go to and learn together, test together with the end date in sight. If I just do what they want me to do I will get there someday and with the fact there are people I know who have actually succeded that way and are working in the hospitals. Please look into everything before buying into this. There are other ways.

I am considering some myself. I have heard of 2. Western Career College LVN- RN associates ( non transferrable) , and University of Pheonix LVN - RN bachelors. I've recently requested info from both and not recieved it yet. I've heard from people about to be starting both but not enough info I want. I really just need to meet with their counselors. I'm leaning toward Univ of Pheonix but would really love to hear from someone already in the program. It is like 4 yrs I've heard and a lot of life happens during that time. good luck!

I came back to Ca from getting my LVN in Texas, at the time LVNs were becoming less popular in the hospitals which is what I actually wanted and was new. I started making about $18 and hour working in a great dr office in Napa. I wanted to move up of course so I started working in the prison system as a "state LVN' and made a little more with the added "bonus" of mandatory overtime. I decided to move up again and become a correctional officer/lvn and " MTA" after a year and a half of working in the same facility already. the LVNs in Ca got a higher raise if they were perm/state, but after as little as I had worked there I already topped out- registery nurses make more of course- which i was not. I started as an MTA making $200 more a month with many raises to come with great job security.If you come to the prisons as an LVn your duties are limited mainly to passing meds at a speedy rate. My job has changed to include different nursing and also duties such as handcuffing ect. I am new to nursing and want something more and am considering going back to school. I have a problem with helping like a nurse would do on the outside but almost having to risk being neglectful due to the manipulation inmates do. MTA or LVN in the prison system is for someone willing to let go of your variety of skills and focus on limited things. The work can be easier, the enviornment is hard on you inside. The pay is better if you are registery or do the officer/nursing style job. It has made me a tougher person but a worse nurse in my opinion. I believe corrections could be the last stop for someone who has experienced all they wanted already and want to take it easy -No offense to others- it isn't easy over the board and not for everyone. wishing safety for all.
