Tunic-Style Scrubs
I own a set of the Dickies "W" label with the long tunic and I love them! However, I read that they're not making them temporarily because of a problem with the supplier. If you can't find them in stock in your size, try Ebay. Good luck!

Night shift and daycare- ahh!
I agree with the "moving closer to home" idea if you have family willing to help out. Your predicament will only become worse as your kids get older and start school. My husband and I struggle with this constantly with 3 school-aged kids (12, 11, and 9). Once they are in school, you can't disrupt their sleep with overnight daycare. If you work days (usually shift start time of 6:30), most daycares don't open until 6:00am, at least none that have transportation to their school (not enough transportation time for you). It's a scary situation to be in - too old for daycare, but not quite old enough to come home after school to an empty house. We work different shifts so that someone is home in the morning to put them on the school bus. Then there are after school activities that one parent has to coordinate alone while the other is at work. I can't imagine having that responsibility on your own! I hope you can work something out....Good luck! :heartbeat

SAHM of 2 young kids wants to be a nurse. Realistic?
I did LPN school with 3 kids in grade school and it was hard. I'm taking prereqs now to get into an RN program. Don't take too long with those science credits, or they may expire before you apply to nursing school and you will have to repeat the classes. Also, realize that nursing school clinicals can be at odd hours. I had some that began at 6:00am and some that ran until 11:00pm. I had to put 2 of my kids into before school daycare (added expense); as a SAHM, daycare was something that I swore I would never do with my kids. Realistically, there is no way to attend school parties, field trips, and all of the ballgames (but you won't be able to do it all as a working mom after nursing school either). I have spent many a football practice, baseball game, and orchestra concert intermission studying flashcards and doing care plans. You will feel SO GUILTY about everything that you miss (must be a Mom thing). Just remember that our parents did not attend every activity that we experienced as kids and we turned out alright. As a new nurse, you will not be offered the prime shifts for childrearing either! My husband has really had to step it up a notch, and he's adjusted pretty well. However, my kids now see how important school is to their future. They see me study hard and take school seriously; they celebrate every "A" with me and I do the same with them! I think it's been worth it, even if it's difficult. We're just hoping to get MY student loans paid off before our kids start college. Good luck!

Fresh Grad, New Job...stressed out
I can sympathize completely. I'm a new LPN (2 months), working on my RN. Just when I thought I was getting the hang of things and into my own routine, I feel like everything is falling apart. I feel completely overwhelmed with 12 patients (Rehab hospital). It's all I can do to get all of my meds passed, dressings changed, etc. I always stay over at least an hour finishing up my charting. And today I was reprimanded for my first med error. I feel so incompetent all of the time, even though I run my tail off and never get a lunch or break. I'm so frustrated....

Galen Nursing Tops
KC9772, Don't stress out of your top is not in yet. They will understand and you won't be the only one! I'm at Galen in LPN 3rd quarter (Louisville). Your first clinical will only be an orientation to the clinical site, and you probably won't be required to wear your uniform anyway, just dress-casual. Good luck in your program!
