Interview for ER position.
One question that I had a hard time coming up with an answer to was "tell me about a time that you made a mistake. and how did you handle it?" I also was given scenarios regarding triage. EXAMPLE: a toddler presents drooling, a 65 year old male SOB, and a 30 year old with a lac to his hand. What category do they fall into (emergent, urgent, non-urgent)? and who would you treat first, and why? GOOD LUCK!!

I cant start IV's!
Last week was my first week in the ER, after working 2 years in med/surg night shift. I maybe had to start 3 IV's on med/surg. I am still really nervous about starting them. But I know that I will get lots of experience where I am now. I work with some pretty great nurses, from what I have experienced. I know I will learn alot from them! In the 3 days I worked last week, I failed alot on my first try but often got it on my second. I had alot of blown veins. The tourniquet idea may have contributed, but we collect labs on the iv start. I have to say that I love the ER! Why didn't I just start out there?!

K pack??
I know to call the doc...but it was a situation where the doc did the discharge instructions with the patient. I was looking through the paperwork after patient was gone. I saw on the copy of the med list for the patient to continue what looked to be "k pack twice a day". I was just looking for information to see what that actually was.

K pack??
Yeah, it could have been k-pad... Do they make k-pads to be used at home? Or are they specific to hospital settings??

K pack??
I hope this isn't a stupid question... but a dr ordered a k pack bid on a patient I was discharging today. I have searched the internet and can't find anything. Does anyone know what a k pack is??
