  1. You earn the BSN degree from ur college/university and apply for an authorization to test from the BON to sit for the NCLEX and obtain ur RN license.
  2. Good news, I found out yesterday evening that I got the position! Thank you for the support aye125RN! Edie10 hope your interview went well.
  3. Ok, its official I got the job:w00t:
  4. Still waiting to hear back from the recruiter. This is killing me! How long do these thing usually take?
  5. Obtain a volunteer position at the hospital you are interested in and network. Its often not what you know but who you know. I passed my nclex and have applied for 50+ jobs. Call the nurse recruiter and ask where they are in the hiring process for a given position. Keep applying and don't give up there is a job out there for you.
  6. Just got back from my shadowing experience. I was just expected to follow the nurse around and ask her questions as I had them. All of the staff members were very friendly, and they worked well as a team. I think that I would like working there. I'm just so tired from being up this late its all a little hazy. I am supposed to follow up with the manager and tell her if I think its a good fit. I hope I got the staffs seal of approval. The nurse recruiter called me the day after my interview and I about had a stroke. I was expecting her to tell me that they had decided to go with another applicant and there was no longer a reason to shadow. However it was quite the opposite. She told me that I had interviewed very well and pending the results of my background check she would be extending a formal offer. I have never been arrested so that shouldn't be a problem. But I am having a hard time accepting that the job is mine. Its not official yet and they can still change their mind. I'm just afraid of getting my hopes up and being crushed. Thank you to all of you who have read my posts and offered your advice and support it means a great deal to me. Only fellow nurses can understand what this is like, my family doesn't quite get it. They don't understand They think its wAy to complex and drawn out of a process almost inferring that I'm not doing something correctly. They're trying to be supportive but its irritating in a way. Anyways time to get some sleep so I can be clear minded and fresh in the morning when I speak to the manager.. I will keep you posted when I get the official thumbs up or down.
  7. Thank you very much for the support and advice. I felt like the interview with both the unit manager and nurse recruiter went very well. I did practice as you suggested and I think this really made a difference and helped calm my nerves. They asked mostly questions that I had anticipated and prepared for. The manager offered me an opportunity to job shadow so I'm super excited. Going to treat thAt as Another interview and keep my fingers crossed that the staff will like me and that I will like all of them and what the duties the position entails.
  8. Jempatty- any word yet on if you passed? Hope ya did :)
  9. Thank you everyone for the info. GHGoonette- its an ortho/neuro floor
  10. Hi everyone! I'd like your opinions on a couple of things. is it customary for managers to schedule job shadowing for new grad applicants following an interview? Or is this usually reserved for top candidates only? I am scheduled to shadow one of the preceptors. Are they looking for how well I would fit in with the rest of the staff, what I know/dont know, how trainable I am, etc? What type of questions should I ask the preceptor? I really want this job and I want to do everything in my power to improve my chances of being selected. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
  11. So I just landed my first interview for a position on a Ortho/Neuro floor which is an accomplishment in itself with the lack of jobs for new grads lately. I know they'll ask why do you want to work here, what are your career goals, strengths/weaknesses, how did you handle conflict with prior coworkers, and questions about clinical situations. I'm trying to prepare answers in my head, its practically all I can think about. I have had some exposure to these type of patients during my clinical rotations; stroke, MS, seizures, spinal cord injuries, amputations... but don't have any nursing experience being a recent grad. Its hard to get an interview in this economy especially as a new grad and I don't want to mess it up. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  12. MAy I ask what type of quesTions you Will be askinG potential employers? About the orientation process? Scheduling? I'm just starting my job hunt and any advice would be greatly appreciated.
  13. SATA= select all that apply And I'm in michigan
  14. I just used saunders 4th edition and nclex 3500, and scored consistently in the high 70s low 80s on practice questions. Suprisingly the actual nclex was not as hard as i had anticipated. I guess I had myself prepared for the absoulte worst lol. Had 75 questions, one audio, two math, and one picture. Lots of sata and prioritization, several medications but they were common ones. Got the good popup when I did the pearson vue trick, and three days later I had a license number on the state board of nursing web site. Good luck to everyone, you can do it too!
  15. I have had clinicals at Henry Ford Hospital and Detroit Receiving, and am scheduled to be at Children's Hospital and St. John on Moross this summer for peds and ob. Other students have been at Beaumont Royal Oak, Henry Ford Macomb, Mount Clemens General, Sinai-Grace and Providence Southfield. Not all of these hospitals are utilized each semester it just depends on the course you are enrolled in and the availability of the facility. We were just placed in to sections of approximately 8 students per clinical instructor. However the College of Nursing does allow students to swap schedules, we have the option to find a fellow student who is willing to switch entire schedules, this is not facilitated by the CON but they approve the switch during a specified time period prior to the start of the semester. This was not really utilized by many students in the first semester, but many did switch for the winter and summer.
