Yeah we did work our butts off didn't we?? I second what faith2011 said...we were in the program together. I am still finishing up my last semester because I got pregnant during the program. Great program, about 50% of the teachers are wonderful, WSU needs to get rid of a few of them though. Clinical experiences are priceless. Good luck!!

Thanks bandaid. It is so strange because the second poster in this thread also had an instructor use that abbreviation. It is not in medilexicon, but thanks for the site, I'm sure I'll be using it a lot. I'll post the answer when I find out. Probably something super obvious...

Okay, I know this is an old thread but it is the only search hit I am getting that is close to what I am looking for. What does the abbreviation WGWD and NAD stand for??? I can't find it anywhere in my books and my instructor put it in the notes but did not explain it. Help please and thank you.

I just started my ABSN program and I think the number of people going into this area has definitely increased since I was taking my prereq's. However, I do agree with the pp in that, if you really want this, BE FOCUSED. Do your best in these prereq's because all of the programs look at your GPA the most. Don't worry about others taking your spot, if you get top grades it is one less thing to worry about when it comes time for admission. Good luck and stay the course.

Just to add something. I think the actual application deadline is in March sometime, but the application FEE isn't due until June 1st. Make sure you attend an info session, they are usually once a month. Wayne State is a great school (if I do say so myself...lol)...I know preference is given to applicants who have taken all of their pre-req's at WSU, so it can't hurt to have taken a few there. A&P with Spranger is tough, but you can do it. Micro is also tough, but chem is not too bad. They have chemistry (inorganic and organic) for med students and for health professionals. Pre-nursing students take the health professional chem, and it's a lot easier than the med student chem class. Good luck!

If you have such an interest in NF-1, I would definitely suggest looking into doing a Ph.D. I work in neuroscience research right now and it sounds like research would really suit you. Find several Principle investigators doing the type of research you're interested in, and apply to their Ph.D programs. The classes are difficult, but you will eventually do your own research project that you design (with help) and your entire career could be devoted to helping those with NF-1. I'm not a nurse but this caught my eye and I do have the research background. Let me know if you have any questions about it! Best of luck!!

Sorry to change the subject, but I am starting an accelerated program in the fall and was wondering what these "red flags" might be. I'm sure I will learn some of them in clinicals, but it sounds like you have a lot of experience to draw from. Thanks!

I just got an email about the interviews yesterday. I called and they said I don't have to do one. I think it's good though, it will give people a better chance. Best of luck!! Let me know how it goes. Do you know who you're interviewing with?

I'm not a nurse yet either, but I have looked into the work commitment/pay off loans deal. I know DMC participates in it, also a smaller hospital St. Mary's in Livonia does it too. I think the majority of the hospitals do some kind of student loan program. As far as job openings go, I check the dmc.org site often and there are over 200 RN posted job openings right now. What I've been told about good work environments is that it varies from unit to unit. I work for WSU now at Detroit Receiving (not as a nurse) and I like the environment here. My heart is in Detroit, and even though we are going through tough times now, I won't be leaving.
