Wayne State Nursing Program Question
Yeah we did work our butts off didn't we?? I second what faith2011 said...we were in the program together. I am still finishing up my last semester because I got pregnant during the program. Great program, about 50% of the teachers are wonderful, WSU needs to get rid of a few of them though. Clinical experiences are priceless. Good luck!!

patient assessment lab
Thanks bandaid. It is so strange because the second poster in this thread also had an instructor use that abbreviation. It is not in medilexicon, but thanks for the site, I'm sure I'll be using it a lot. I'll post the answer when I find out. Probably something super obvious...

patient assessment lab
Okay, I know this is an old thread but it is the only search hit I am getting that is close to what I am looking for. What does the abbreviation WGWD and NAD stand for??? I can't find it anywhere in my books and my instructor put it in the notes but did not explain it. Help please and thank you.

Too many people trying to get an ABSN?
I just started my ABSN program and I think the number of people going into this area has definitely increased since I was taking my prereq's. However, I do agree with the pp in that, if you really want this, BE FOCUSED. Do your best in these prereq's because all of the programs look at your GPA the most. Don't worry about others taking your spot, if you get top grades it is one less thing to worry about when it comes time for admission. Good luck and stay the course.

Wayne State Nursing Program Question
Just to add something. I think the actual application deadline is in March sometime, but the application FEE isn't due until June 1st. Make sure you attend an info session, they are usually once a month. Wayne State is a great school (if I do say so myself...lol)...I know preference is given to applicants who have taken all of their pre-req's at WSU, so it can't hurt to have taken a few there. A&P with Spranger is tough, but you can do it. Micro is also tough, but chem is not too bad. They have chemistry (inorganic and organic) for med students and for health professionals. Pre-nursing students take the health professional chem, and it's a lot easier than the med student chem class. Good luck!

would love to be nurse, but a bit anti-social
If you have such an interest in NF-1, I would definitely suggest looking into doing a Ph.D. I work in neuroscience research right now and it sounds like research would really suit you. Find several Principle investigators doing the type of research you're interested in, and apply to their Ph.D programs. The classes are difficult, but you will eventually do your own research project that you design (with help) and your entire career could be devoted to helping those with NF-1. I'm not a nurse but this caught my eye and I do have the research background. Let me know if you have any questions about it! Best of luck!!

New grad frustrated, but trapped...in a "profession" i HATE.
Sorry to change the subject, but I am starting an accelerated program in the fall and was wondering what these "red flags" might be. I'm sure I will learn some of them in clinicals, but it sounds like you have a lot of experience to draw from. Thanks!

Wayne State Accelerated Program
I just got an email about the interviews yesterday. I called and they said I don't have to do one. I think it's good though, it will give people a better chance. Best of luck!! Let me know how it goes. Do you know who you're interviewing with?

Moving to Detroit, need help.
I'm not a nurse yet either, but I have looked into the work commitment/pay off loans deal. I know DMC participates in it, also a smaller hospital St. Mary's in Livonia does it too. I think the majority of the hospitals do some kind of student loan program. As far as job openings go, I check the dmc.org site often and there are over 200 RN posted job openings right now. What I've been told about good work environments is that it varies from unit to unit. I work for WSU now at Detroit Receiving (not as a nurse) and I like the environment here. My heart is in Detroit, and even though we are going through tough times now, I won't be leaving.

Wayne State Accelerated Program
Thanks so much, that is really great info. My letter from WS said orientation will be either July 7 or 9, so I'll make sure to pay good attention. Which hospitals have you done your clinicals at? Do you have any choice or preference at all or are you just placed somewhere? Thanks!

Harper Hospital Anyone
I work for Wayne State School of Medicine in the DMC complex and I really love the DMC hospital system. I think the amount you gave for pay is in the right area for an entry-level staff nurse, it seems like you would get more as a grad nurse but I'm not sure. The great thing about Harper/DMC is that you can move easily within the DMC, keep your pay level, seniority, etc. I'm not a nurse (yet, start accel. school in fall) but I know a lot of nurses here and have asked a LOT of questions because I would like to work at the DMC when I graduate. I've also been told that they really focus on evidence based nursing (which is not true of every hospital in the metro region) and that everything is electronic (including phys. orders). Their computer system has been up and running for a while now unlike other hospitals who have newer systems or are just now moving to a full electronic system. That's all I can think of now...

Wayne State Accelerated Program
Yes, they do. It's interesting that they told you they do not. Early admittance is only for students who took all pre-req's at WSU, and I think the gpa has to be at a certain level (not sure). My application page says "early admit" and they sent me a letter asking for my confirmation, which I sent back. I also was at the CON yesterday and they had a little set of files for all of the CD2 early admits. I've noticed with the CON that they are very stand-offish until you are accepted. i.e. if you want to speak to an advisor, they won't let you until you are accepted, they will just tell you to go to an information meeting. Good luck to you guys though, I hope you get in! I'm pretty excited that I got in.

Wayne State Accelerated Program
Hello, I'm new to all-nurses. I wanted to see if anyone had gotten early acceptance into the CD2 program at Wayne State. I got in and wanted to see who else did. What is your background, etc. Also, does anyone else who is currently in this program or recently graduate have any advice/info? Thanks!!
