  1. It is my PET PEEVE when I used to hear fellow CNA's say to pts in Depends...."go ahead and poop in it, that is what is used for" Well last I knew, Depends DONT WIPE YOUR BEHIND OR FLUSH! IT IS NOT AN ALTERNATIVE TO A TOILET! I told one girl to go and sit in her own (fill in the blank, you get the idea and expletive!). She answered bathroom call lights ASAP after that!
  2. I work in SMALL clinic, no interpreters, but the community is mostly Spanish, Portuguese, Cape Verdean, Haitian
  3. i was asked this question by 2 pts last week and arrrrrggggggghhhhh.... "me english no good, do you speaka portuguese?" i said "no i do not" (i do not look latino, i am irish and french!) what i wanted to say........ i don't speaka portuguese because this is america and here we speaka english, the language of the land!!! our dr will reschedule you (and he does this to all people who don't bring an interpreter) if you fail to bring an interpreter.
  4. I am the same way too Pepper the Cat! I can drink a McDonalds 32 oz Sweet Tea PRIOR to a dr appt, bladder full, and I CANNOT pee on demand!
  5. to the parents of our pediatric pts, and their whole family is on free healthcare: if you can afford that coach bag, prada shoes, and that lincoln navigator parked in our lot, then you can afford health insurance for you and your kid!!!
  6. We had a pt who came in for chronic pain and the Dr prescribed Percocet, a little while later I get a call from the pharmacy saying they cannot fill the Percocet because she is taking Suboxone and it will lower the amount of pain med in the Percocet. I alerted the Dr about this. It is possible that our pt DID NOT tell us EVERYTHING, but forgot to tell us that she fills her other meds at the same pharmacy! Something needs to be done for "Doctor/Pharmacy Shoppers"! Maybe it is time for a Patient Narcotic Registry?
  7. There are some PIA pts, as sad and sick as they are, need to have their picture on file at ER's and pharmacies and have a notice IF YOU SEE THIS PT DON'T SERVE THEM! but sadly it doesnt work that way!
  8. No I am NOT your DRUG DEALER and nor is YOUR PRESCRIBING DOCTOR....here are the directions to the nearest dealer on the street corner! Also proper language is required to get a refill...We have pts asking to refill their "Vic's" or "Oxy's" and our Nurse Practitioner does NOT find that to be acceptable language!
  9. My boyfriend is a LEGAL CITIZEN (Puerto Rican) so "looking latino" gives NOBODY the right to think he or anyone else of any origin to look "illegal"
  10. I get this situation at the Neuro Clinic I work at. We get people calling in to refill their controlled pain meds, or to have a Dr call back to give them test results, or we or other facilities have to call them back to set up tests/procedures. Then they get ticked at us because WE DONT HAVE THE CORRECT CONTACT INFO! When I am talking to a pt, I ALWAYS verify the contact info. I had one lady who said to stop calling her because "Joe Smith" doesnt live there, is not related, and it is not his phone #. It turned out he changed his # a very long time ago, and he would call our clinic frequently for his pain meds, and we would ALWAYS verify the phone # with him, and he said it was his #! The day I got off the phone with this upset lady, he called and I asked him for the correct # and told him that we have been calling this # and it is NOT CORRECT and also the Dr will NOT REFILL his Rx until he is 1) seen by him and 2) we all have his correct info.
  11. I DID NOT read her record, her name was on a paper attached to a RX in our Narcotic/Controlled Substance pile. I have known this lady for years! I have told the cops about the meth lab, the BS going on there. Unfortunately, these people are too damn smart and keep things under wraps when they sense the sh** is going to hit the fan so they dont get caught. Also one nephew is buddies with some of the cops.
  12. I haven't lived there in over a year, and from what I hear she still lives there. The cops have been there numerous times for noise, fights, and harrassing other neighbors (one who has an anxiety disorder and heart problem!), when I lived there. It turned out 3 other families moved out of that building due to them! I believe the universe works in weird ways and I hope she gets help.
  13. Luckily we have EMR with Office and Phone Notes, SO EVERY LITTLE THING is documented, included last date the Rx was filled. I am going to keep my mouth shut, until then let the universe deal with them! Hopefully she will go on the drug maintenance program, where she needs to provide a urine sample prior to refilling her Rx, and also follow the dosage of the program. The doctors don't play around, one screw up, and no pills for her!
  14. I just hope I NEVER see her or her nephews in my office! I'll just tell the Office Manager I cannot be around her due to a "conflict of interest".
  15. i just started a medical asst job at a neuro. clinic. we see alot of pts with chronic pain, worker's comp, disability approvals, etc.... to make a long story short, over a year ago i moved out of an apartment building in a bad part of town, one reason was my neighbor who has a medical condition and her and her nephews were running a meth lab right next door to me and there chemicals were backing up into my bathroom sink on a daily basis. i saved my $$$ and got the hell out asap. i was getting sick, possibly due to this! anyways fast forward one year later. i get this job, and i was getting an rx out of the controlled substance pile (pt's have to physically pick up their prescriptions). i just happened to notice my former neighbor's name on one of the rx's in pile. i know i can't make note of it to her dr thanks to hippa. she has a hx of drug seeking behaviors, and due to whatever disability she claims to have, my former landlord cannot evict her! i was the one forced to move! i was driving home and putting 2 and 2 together. also her nephews are drug seekers, and it is illegal to provide her meds to them. have you ever been in a situation like this and felt "stuck"? it people like her that screw the medical and disability system and there has to be something to stop people like her to get her hands on the pills people need for legit reasons!
