  1. Yeah, don't worry. There's a lot of us out there in the same boat. We can't seem to find a job. So you're right! There's no nursing shortage. Unfortunately I moved down to FL from NJ and I've been down here for eleven weeks and still no job at all. Not even BK will hire me or the Home Depot. I am overqualified. ArGGGGGHHHHH! I just can't find anything but I'm still trying. So you keep trying to!
  2. :up:I have to say that i'm in the same boat except i went to school in nj and moved down to miami. i've been here for eleven weeks and still no job. she might be better off and going back home like i am. they're just slower down here than up north. sorry to say but it's true and b/c fl has one of the highest unemployment rates it's even harder. the problem down here is that they have these versant programs and they won't even consider you for one of their hospitals unless you have a FL RN license first. Versant is what all the hospitals are picking up down here. it's a great program but the geniuses who came up with it didn't stagger so basically a majority of the hospitals that have these programs all start them at the same time, Nov, Mar, and Aug. Unfortunately I came down here in Aug and the slots for Nov were taken up so I have to either wait til Mar or go back home to NY. This is the dumbest thing and most likely if i leave i'm never coming back. so Good luck to you!
  3. Well thx for the support from u all and I still don't have a job! I tried to think of something else d want to do instead of nursing and I cat come up with anything. I am so lost right now and iv never had to deal w this type of situation. Collectors will are gonna start calling me any min. I even tried the home depot and they haven't evn called me. I actually thought for a min today, that if I was dead I wouldn't have to put up w this but bc of my religious beliefs I got that out of my head quick flash and in a hurry. I am just between a rock and a hard place and I don't know what to do!
  4. :saint:Interestingly enough I graduated from nursing school in nj and and moved down to Florida as a new grad and can't find a job but I'm getting ready to move back home bc I know hospitals there that do hire new grads and are great teaching institutions. I don't know where you all live but my home in in Jersey City, NJ which is northern and about 8 min from Manhattan. Hospitals in the area that hire new nurses are Trinitas hospital in Elizabeth, NJ but apply Sep-Nov bc they graduate classes in Spring and Fall. You can apply to St. Barnabas in Livingston and Newark Beth Israel in Newark, NJ, which is an excellent teaching hospital with signon bonuses and they welcome new grads. There's also UMDNJ who have excellent MedSurg units and are also looking for new grads. There's also St. Michael in Newark, NJ and if you want to go the distance St. Vincent Medical Catholic Center in Staten Island also hires new grads and trains you up. I've either worked at two of the hospitals mentioned and interviewed at the others. They're great and I hope and pray for you all to find what you need.Good Luck. If any of you know of anything or anywhere here in South Florida besides Jackson Memorial and South Baptist system I'd appreciate it. Thx!
  5. So what's everyone doing in the meantime that's unable to find a nursing job. Are you working at the local home depot or waiting for callbacks from hospitals? I'm just so disgusted right now with the managers that sit on our applications and the hospitals that have these outlandish demands, that I don't know what to do with myself! I think I'm going crazy already and I haven't even hit the floor yet! LOL:banghead:
  6. OK everyone, anyone, who can help me. I am a new graduate relocated from NJ and I took my boards in Sep and passed! YAY!!!!! Anyway I started interviewing even before I passed the boards here in Miami, FL. Is this the worst state to try and get a nursing job or what. Everyone wants a nurse but with experience. They have these programs called Versant which slowly integrates new nurses but there aren't even a lot of slots so I think at this point everyone is calling in favors to get their neice, brother, nephew or whatever in. This leaves me out. I am hurt bc I've been in the clinical setting for the past eleven yrs of my life but all they see when they look at my resume is that I don't have any RN experience. Do I go back to NY. I don't know but I didn't think it'd be this hard and I'm darn good on the floor. I feel like choking and swearing and I probably would if I weren't a Christian woman. Anyone have any advice?
  7. Thanks for all the good information. I'm just gettin in this business and i like to hear what not to do!! LOL
