  1. We're not reimbursed enough for the heavy care Medicare/Medicaid folks anyway. So they come in with a chip on their shoulder and make all of these stupid rules that facilities cannot possibly follow in order that they can fine us and justify their own jobs/existence. They don't give you any more money in order that you may comply with these regs. They do all of this under the name of "improved patient care standards." Then they add more and more patients to our census until we can no longer give them a reasonable amount of care. Make more stupid rules. Give us less money. Stop placement if they don't like your LTC facility. WTF?!? I think I'm missing something here...
  2. But I get paid the least of any nurse in my facility! Sucks to be me! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
  3. I had alot of difficult patients when I worked for a Rehab facility here in Seattle... This one lady just irked me, though. Her husband was a psycho and so was she. She was trying to sue the facility and she made no apologies regarding that. She had already been kicked out of numerous other facilities due to her (and her husband's) behavior. You'd think that people would learn! She accused my male coworker of hitting her in order to garner sympathy and attention from her husband. She would threaten other residents and staff. She hit me one time and her husband said that it was my fault. She would repeatedly verbally and physically abuse CNAs. She and her husband would scream and yell about every facility policy they didn't agree with. Finally, we were able to rid ourselves of the beast! She became rather ill one morning and I sent her to the hospital. They admitted her and she stayed for 3 days. She refused a bed hold before she left due to the 160/day cost. WoooooooooHoo! It is unfortunate that the facility she currently resides at is the second job of one of the CNAs at my current place of employment. The CNA tells me that she hasn't changed a bit... SAD!
  4. Too many cookies...and candies....and more cookies...this season. Then my mom sent more of the stuff. I sat it on the table at work and let everybody take what they wanted. My mom sends lots of junk. Then she'll tell you that you're getting fat! Muahahahaha! :rotfl:
  5. What should I do with myself jobwise? I'm thinking about working at the Veterans Hospital here in Seattle. Any other suggestions? I'm tired of LTC and ready to head out for some variety and adventure... I worked for the VA twice while doing clinicals. It was both crazy and fun! Now I'm just trying to formulate my "I'm leaving" speech. Wish me luck! I'm not going to go into a great deal of detail, really. I'm just going to tell them that I'm seeking a different type of experience and that it's non-negotiable. End of story.
  6. I've wanted to be a nurse for such a long time that that was my only goal. I graduated from Nursing School in Aug 2003 and I have a good job...but I don't know what to do next. It took me quite a few years decide on my career and finish school. Recently, I've gained 10 pounds and feel really stressed out. I'm trying to set goals for myself that would allow me to be successful outside of work. I'd like to be involved in my community and, eventually, I'd like to be far more of a success in my home-life, hobbies, etc... My job is just what I do because I can't get paid to eat pizza and fart all damn day long! Haha. I like my job to a certain extent but it''s only a small part of what I consider to be importatnt in my life. I keep thinking that I might like to pursue a trade of some kind. I don't want to be a nurse full-time much longer. I'd love to do it part-time and do something else as well. I'm trying to awaken the different sides of myself...
  7. We have sugarfree ice cream, a wide variety of meal options, etc... The pureed stuff still looks like crap, though. I think that's universal. The pureed broccoli looks like guacamole and is shaped like a rosette. Sure beats the h*** out of pureed s*** on a shingle!
  8. Post removed
  9. I love nursing and I'd like to practice for a very long time. The thing I've begun to realize, though, is that I only want to work as a nurse part-time (24 hours/week)...and that I'd like to do something completely different 1-2 days per week. I just don't know what that something else is... How many of you have done/are doing this? What is your other career? Etc...
  10. how the patient wants us to refer to him/her.
