  1. Hi speedytopspin!! You don't need to study on anything as far as I can remember. Your knowledge of nursing is the only key to pass the exams. Goodluck!!!!
  2. I find it the most frustrating exams of my life next to NCLEX!!! But it was worth it and I made it! If you exercise regularly then there will be no problem. Goodluck!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. For new grads: I would suggest that you try to apply in some forensic psychiatric hospitals. I tried everything from working in a nursing home to a medical clinic before I landed a job in a state hospital. I never imagined I would end up here but it was worth it. Medical hospitals won't hire me because they think I'm just a new grad. That is why I am thankful that even with no experience in hospitals in the US they still accepted me and the training was the best so far.
  4. I believe you.. There's no one hiring here in San Francisco. they have posted ads but when you get to the job fair, they'll just get your resume. There is an overload of nurses here in SAN FRANCISCO. If I was single I would even go to other States but my family needs me here. If you are single, find your luck in some other states. They may be paying a lot less than SF but what you'll have is the million dollar hospital experiece you can't get here in SAN FRANCISCO. EXPLORE OTHER PLACES. GET THE EXPERIENCE... AND AFTER GETTING ENOUGH EXPERIENCE... GO BACK TO SF!!!! that's a piece of advice for you what they call NEW grad nurses/foreign graduate nurses/ new NCLEX passers without acute care experience.... I hope this will be an eye opener.... GOOD LUCK to all of you.
  5. Suzanne4 -- I am still looking out for volunteering nursing jobs in CA but no luck. I live in the Bay area and passed the NCLEX. I really would appreciate if you could share me some list where can I apply as a volunteer nurse in SF. Thanks and God bless you.
  6. I think that's true. SAN FRANCISCO has an overload of nurses in hospitals, skilled nursing facilities.... I have been complaining since the time I started finding jobs after I took the NCLEX of this year. I think LA and San Diego is better. They have new grad training program. SF has a problem of overload.....
  7. All Pinay nurses: What's this news about Vermont? Well everyone I know would like to apply to their Board Of Nursing. Girls/ Boys.. To tell you frankly..California, New York and whatever state you wanted to apply is just as the same as vermont... The Board of Nursing on all states has the scope of exams..They are all difficult... Pain staking and traumatic... So don't go for the news in the Phils. saying... take the VermontNCLEX exams...
  8. Hi to everyone!!! This is how the story goes guys...I am a foreign graduate nurse and been a registered nurse in my country for a couple of years. I worked in Oakland as a caregiver for 6 months and took the NCLEX exams last Feb. 2008. Wow!!! It was a grand national day for me and my family!!! To tell you frankly, I felt like a goddess in SF even for a day. I got my license and resigned on my job as a caregiver. I was so excited applying for jobs in hospitals ( Kaiser, Mills Peninsula, Sutter, St. francis, California Pacific, Alameda Hospital etc.... I even went far to John Muir, believe me Stanford Hosp.... bec. after a few months everyone was sending me e-mails that I was turned down. I applied on their new grad program but still couldn't find a hospital who was interested in my experience as a caregiver. All hospitals & health care agencies are looking for our acute care experience, not in our country but here in the US. How could we have an acute care experience here in the US when almost all agencies would not hire us??? They are hiring travel nurses and paying them more than a regular nurse here in CA. Why can't anyone hire nurses who live here in SF. Do you think they would save more dollars with that??????? I can't understand the rationale behind it. I am now working in a medical office in Hayward. My search on the internet goes on, I am still sending resumes on every health care agencies I would be able to meet one compassionate angel who would give me chance to make myself confident again... I am a nurse and for me nursing is a vocation..
  9. Helo everyone!!!! I passed the NCLEX exams last february. I thought I was triumphant with it. But I am still having problems in finding jobs in hospitals. I have applied on every hospitals in San Francisco but up to now it still am frustrated. You see i am a foreign graduate nurse and I worked in my country for 2 years but still they don't consider this as a work experience. The next problem is that they are looking for registered nurses who has an acute care experience for a year or 6 months experience...Hey!!! If you apply, they won't hire you..So where do we have to go to get that acute care experience if we are always turned down by nurse recruiters... Why don't they give a chance to these nurses who would want to be trained and have a local experience so that they could apply in some health agencies, hospitals or nursing facilities. I can'tget the idea that hospitals are hiring travel nurses and pay a big amount while the nurses who are within the area are not given importance because of the local experience they ususally ask you. We are demoralized already and someday would want to go to another state because we feel very frustrated on what is happening here in California. I know a lot of nurses who are stilll trying their luck on some hospitals here but they are being turned down. We studied very hard to attain our degree , took the nerve wrecking nclex test and working on no-nusing jobs to sustain our families.... That's sad. I hope some recruiters or directors of nursing would look up on this matter.
