  1. I am at the peak of my career, making over 80k in my mid 30's. I work a 9-5 no weekends or holidays, but honestly I am starting to dislike my career. I am able to provide well for my family (2 kids) and also get other fringe benefits from my employer but I no longer have passion for my current position. I have been doing my current job as a hospital contractor for 3 years. I started nursing some time ago in undergrad but failed out and converted to a different degree. The thought of nursing never left my mind, but I was out here just trying to make it financially in life as I was swamped in debt. Now after a few bumps in the road with marriage and stuff I am ready to try again. I know I would have to probably quit my job and settle in the beginning to accommodate 3 12 hour shifts. I use to work as a CNA about 10 years ago so I have an idea what nursing is like but its been so long since I've been out of the game. I don't want to mess up my financial future in the meantime, but I don't see any other way to pursue this without giving up something. Please advise. Thanks in advance
  2. It has been about 3 years since I failed out of Nursing school. I was considering going back to school. Only thing is, I'm afraid of failing out again. I also am swallowing my pride as I had strong feelings of regret and went through some serious depression after failing by .05 of a point. So I have some serious anxiety and uneasy feelings of having to go thru that course again and dealing with that professor, as she is the only one who teaches that particular class. So would you go to this school or consider another route? I have realized the reasons that I failed last time; had way too much on my plate and was in the midst of a divorce. The only reason why I am considering going back is because it works well with my work schedule, and going to another school would require me to take more pre-req's which I do not have the time (and patience) to do. Please advise on the matter, thanks in advance!
  3. that would be very helpful , thank you I'll pm you.
  4. Thank you so much for the information, I will try to apply for 2018!! I wish you the best of luck !!!
  5. I have a bachelors degree in healthcare administration. I was a nursing major 10 years ago but marriage and a child got in the way and I flunked out, so I decided to use my credits toward something different. Now that I am divorced, the feeling of wanting to be a nurse never left me. Its just that I have it soooo good right now. I work M-F, no holidays and I know especially in the beginning I wont be that lucky to find a nursing job that offers those type of hours. I worked as a nursing assistant s while back and I got burned out very quickly, I only lasted 2 years. I have no additional money saved so I'm living check to check, paying minimum on loans and barely saving for my child because I cant afford to. My child's behavior is so much better since I started working day shift and I am able to focus on him more, as he was slacking in school. I was going to go whichever route I can take, my grades are sub par , but I have done better in school this time around, as I had to repeat all of my pre req's because they were outdated.
  6. I make about 25k less than what nurses make for my current employer. I work closely with nurses for quite sometime so I have an idea about nursing. I do love my job but I want to advance for the pay as well as the prestige
  7. Hello All!! I am in the process of applying to the above mentioned school, and I see information on the boards regarding the traditional program but none on the accelerated weekend. I was hoping that I can find someone , anyone on here who has first hand experience on attending this program. Will I still be able to work FT during the weekend an attend school on weekends? Is the program rigorous? Thank you in advance!!
  8. I currently work in the federal sector for a year now. I understand nursing school is difficult especially working full time. I am stuck on what to do , because honestly, I love my job! I just don't find it to be financially satisfying and of course I've always wanted to be a nurse, just had many factors get in the way. I just a bit afraid because I feel comfortable where I am employed, but I have a child to support, a place to maintain, as well as many debts. So quitting my job and living of loans or whatever means to get by is a bit scary to me. I could delay nursing school and do an evening program, and get reimbursed by my employer, but I would have to wait a year or more to start a program vs. starting this year. Please advise on what you think is the best course of action. Has anyone ever been in this situation? Please share. Thanks in advance!
  9. Yes I'm sure Weekend Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Dominican College

  11. Hi my fellow Monte nursing students. Im excited about our upcoming start date in August. Has anyone purchased books yet. I just got fundamentals books vol 1 & 2 and looked over the first 2 assigned chapters. How is everyone? Whoever is starting in August, I look forwad to meeting you.
  12. I am actually renewing mine through my job. You can do it through the red cross
  13. congrats to you both!! See yall in August.
  14. Yay!!! I got accepted too!! So excited!!
  15. You got accepted into WCC? You're not going to go there? Why if you don't mind me asking? As for monte, don't they take from the top scores as well? If people are getting 90's in the TEAS, then there's no chance of me getting in this September. I have all my pre req's done . So I don't know. I guess in another month I will know my fate. Lol:yes:
  16. I was looking into BMCC and Rockland CC as well. I already have a bachelors degree, but I have a low gpa and I cannot afford the cost of accelerated programs . So I am hoping for the best. I wish you ladies the best as well
  17. Thank you. It still doesn't put me at ease. I feel really awful about this and if I don't get in, I will consider doing the LPN route. My main go is to get my masters in nursing, but this whole process is exhausting.
  18. I pray too, I finished all my pre req's so hopefully that is factored in. Have you finished all your pre req's as well?
  19. Oh sorry, I got the threads mixed up. I was reading the other monte thread and there was someone who said they got a 90 overall score
  20. Hi , I have applied to this school as well. I the anticipation is killing me, I am too embarrassed to say my score on here, but I score proficient on the teas. I took the exam at WCC and transferred the score over to Monte because they only allow one attempt a year. I really hope I get in, I am tired of waiting. How did you do on your TEAS? I see the above person mentioned they scored a 90 and if people are scoring that high, then Im doomed : (
  21. Hi, I am looking to get into this nursing program for Fall of '14 (or wcc) . I attended an open house in October and am very optimistic about attending? Could anyone share their experiences on getting in, Teas scores, etc. I'm determined to get in no matter what it takes. I am just a little apprehensive because of the job market for ADN's in NYC. Money and time are factors, that's why I feel this is the best choice. I am looking forward to hearing from anyone with some great insight !!
  22. Im 30 years old and my bio clock is ticking loudly. I think about babies daily!! But I want to be a nurse!! Here's my background: I am married one year with a 5 y o daughter from ex. He also has 3 kids from previous relationship. He currently works 2 full time jobs . Lately I have been feeling the urge to have another baby, as my child is going to first grade. I do however want to go to nursing school but it would take me at least another 2 1/2 years to finish. We are not in the best financial situation but overall we are doing ok. I would like to advance in my career and double my current salary. I am confused as to where I should bring a baby into this now and go to nursing school in 2015 or go against my biological clock which is ticking loudly. I don't want to continue to struggle. He wants to have a baby as well I just don't know if Im ready. Please help maybe its just hormones, lol
  23. In order to be successful at a health care management field I would need to pursue a masters after this. I am 89 credits into to getting my degree in this field, need 120 to graduate. Should I just sock this and start an lpn program?? I live in NY and jobs are scarce in just about any field. I have been unemployed for 6 months. Im not sure what to do this point as I am 30 years old with a husband and 4 year old son and have no time to waste??? What else can I pursue as a career in health care management?? Or do LPN ???? Help!!!!
  24. I dont know which way to turn. I was going to school to become an RN but I am no longer interested due to the way healthcare is becoming. I wouldnt even be interested in the job, I would just be chasing the money. I have been in school off and on for 6 years trying to be a RN. I have repeated several science classes because of getting C's and D's . and I am totally exhausted. My GPA is not where it should be to get into a BSN program so now I have to settle for ADN programs, which right now in NY is hard to get a job with an ADN. I also dont want to do the ADN because I want to be done with school as soon as possible. I am 27 years old and I want to live my life. I am set to get married next year and u know how that goes... Therefore I want to have something in place for when the next baby comes... I already have one kid. What should I do ??? I was thinking of just getting a BA in something else health related. I dont even know if my heart is truly into nursing. I mean its taking me 6 years!!! Despite I had some issues along the way, I could have done better. Now I am beginning to feel like I am wasting time if i cant make it thru simple pre-req's. I was working as a CNA for 7 years and just lost my job. So now I am trying to use my time wisely and just finish a degree in the next year or so. I already have so many college credits but just need to repeat a lot of classes to bring up my GPA for nursing school. What is your opinion?? Maybe I will do something else in health care but where to begin I dont know.. I feel like I have been chasing a dream for so long and at my wits end.....
