Hi, I also registered one offsite and 2 in class courses in Kwantlen. I just wondered are these hard courses? I currently have 2 part-time jobs(one is retail saler, one is caregiver) to pay for my expenses. Should I quit jobs and concentrate to study? I'll need to take conslidate med/sug course later, has anyone know where can I find the information that I can do practicum? Richmond hospital has no preceptor so it can't be one of the choices.

Can volunteer hours be counted? Does the 250 hours must work in public facilities? What about home health? Or any clinics?

Like my friend said, why not take the training that the facility provided? Sitting in the room and still get paid is feeling so good. After got the training, people have more opportunities jump to another better facilities to get more pay.

In my facility, physicians always give a parameter; if not, the pharmacy will call them. How I judge should I hold meds is that I will recheck the BP and Pulse for one full min. Making sure that I double check and obtain the accurate data; and maybe ask charge nurse or preceptor cause they are enrich experiences. I don't see any problem if I make it carefully.

In BC, they pay is low as well as the working hours are never enough. I've heard that too many people flock into this market so some of them can't find a job after got certificate. Before entering any career, do market research is important.

I've applied CRNBC in last Dec and then run for all necessary documents. I got my file and register number in middle of January. Then wait until March 15, I sent an e-mail and called CRNBC to find out what's going on. The answer was one verificaion form is missing, so I made it again as soon as I got the answer. Until the end of April, I sent e-mail twice to check out but still no response. I called and a lady told me that now there two documents are missing. I felt so upset cause' I paid the service fee to CRNBC, but what kind of services I've got. Should I make a complain? Does it work?

I'd like to share my experience here. I was trained in Asia, and passed NCLEX(California) and IELTS. Being a Canadian citizen, I was able to CA last year to find an employer and got the offer letter. I went to border by land to appy for TN but was refused due to it's too early. The office would give the TN as soon as you enter US. I flew from YVR and got the TN right away. I was sitting outside, and waited for the officers checked all documents for a while. Finally, I got it without any questions and paid off the $$(forgot). While I entered US, I provided this proof to my hospital as well as applied for SSN in the meantime. When everything came in handy( license....), my employer was able to do paperwork and physical exam. It took 1 month to go through everything. My offer was 1 year contract but I could just work 11 months. I think I was lucky to got hired and earned this experience. The airport's officers are nice too. I hope my experience would be helpful.

I've been working in M/S for 6 months and 95% pts give me positive feedback which encourage me keep going. However, I really don't know what to do when my charge nurse neither take pt nor help others. The charge nurse even unwilling to help me to sign the med which delivered by pharmacy while I was busy for my pt. As I know, she brings gift to manager sometimes. I am confused why can't charge take patients? I see them chatting and laughing most of the time. I also feel bad when I ask CNA help to change my pts and some of them said they are busy now, then go away. I noticed that such co-workers have over-time break. So sometimes I try to do my best to help pt coz' I can't find out CNA. So far, I only took once break since I work here. I always stand by whenever they need me. I told my preceptor that I will not stay in this unit for a long time. My strength is limited and some co-workers just treat co-workers and pts in this way.

I don't think recruit foreign nurses means unethical. Being a foreign nurse and work in US, I can help patients more in terms of culture and language; not all pts can speak English. An old Chinese female pt has told one of my co-workers that she was so scared coz' there was a "man" who cannot speak her language and took off her pants at night---the night shift CNA tried to change her diaper. Yet, Chinese is shy to let a stranger especially male to do so. The problem is the nurses' quality. In my experience, P contry's nurses are smart, but some of them are quite lazy. Just a few of them are fine. For foreign nurses, sign a contract is needed. If their performance is good, they'll have opportunities to settle down in this country.

One more thing that I'd like to supply: pharmacy's carzy phone calls over and over again.

I have the same feeling like you, and I also start to plan my second job in order to switch my career from nursing to another in the near future. I also like dental hygiene which is a professional job as well.

An interesting topic.I appreciate US opens this door for me. I want to become a good nurse with US experience then be a volunteer nurse in Asia to help the poor people. So I might retire over there if they need me. Share US's nice heart to others.

Hi Suzanne, I am in US now and wondered can I apply for TN visa in any local immigration office so I don't need to leave US? If yes, should I go by myself or hire a lawyer? I have all the require doucuments in hand. Thanks.

I also have heard that Jewish are welcome without limit so many Russian nurses said they are Jewish (no DNA check), and they come to work happily. What I mean is do not aimed any foreign nurses. The nursese shortage is being exist for a long time. Why this topic wasn't discussed when the economic is hot? People always come and go follow money, not the true heart.
