  1. I'm looking for information about the RN program offered at South Florida Community College in Avon Park, FL. Any info I can get would really be appreciated! Specifically, I'm curious about anyone's personal thoughts on the program? How competitive is it for entry into the program? What type of degree do they offer? Their website shows that they offer both an a.s. and an a.a.s. Is this true? I have had a couple emails with a someone from the school, and was told they only offer the a.a.s. Is this true? If it is, anyone happen to know the transferability of their degree to an bsn program? Also, if anyone can offer any feedback about the area of Avon Park, Sebring, or Lake Placid, I'd really appreciate to receive it also (looking into relocating to the area). Thanks in advance!!

  3. I'm jealous! I wish we would have cadavers! I think the most I'll get is a sheep's brain and eye.
  4. Hi, y'all. My name is Kelli and... A. I will be taking 10 credits during the spring semester--in addition to A&P1, I will be taking CHM1020, and Nutrition. B. I'm looking forward to gaining a better understanding of how the human body actually works. C. I will be applying to start the RN program at my local CC in January 2011--application deadline is October 3rd. D. In addition to going to school, I am a SAHM to a 3 year-old, and a 19 month-old. Also, I will be taking the NLN PAX-RN in March.
  5. That's the exact schedule I'll be taking in the spring. What campus/when are you taking your classes?
  6. So, I'm trying decide between purchasing a LiveScribe pen and a digital voice recorder. Anyone have, or know someone who has had a LiveScribe pen? Is it worth the price-tag? For those who have not, but have had a digital voice recorder, what model would you recommend? Any input would be appreciated!
  7. I'm married (3 years) with an almost 3 year-old and an 18 month old. I'm hoping to get accepted into a program for Spring 2011. I currently go to school full time and am a SAHM. I think the key is time-management. Yes, nursing school is going to keep you busy, but if your fiance supports you and you guys set time aside for the two of you, I think you'll be fine. Best of luck to you.
  8. Hopefully I will be... I'm hoping to get accepted into the local CC's program starting Spring 2011. My schedule until then will be; Spring 2010 A&P 1 Chem Nutrition Summer 2010 A&P 2 Micro Fall 2010 Pharmacology Humanities elective Critical thinking for nurses (maybe) I am also excited! I can't wait to start. :)
  9. I bet your presentation did make quite the impression. I hope to do the same. Your presentation sounds like it was great. Thanks for the input, everyone.
  10. Hello, I was hoping I might receive suggestions/prop ideas, for a presentation I'm going to be doing. On the 19th I will be making a career power-point presentation about NICU nursing. I'd like to have props or something to pass around while I present, so that it's not just another pp presentation. We've been doing several each class period for the past couple weeks, and a lot of people are starting to dread that period of the class, because they've mostly been kinda of boring, lecture-type presentations. I want people to have an interest and learn something during my presentation, and to remember how great NICU nurses, and all other nurses are, in general. So far, I've thought of filling a fabric pouch with something to demonstrate various weights--to give an example of what a micro-preemie, preemie, or average birth-weight newborn might weigh. Any other suggestions? I appreciate any and all input I get. Thanks.:loveya:
  11. I'm just curious...how many of those who applied received the scholarship? To those who did, congratulations! To those who didn't I'm sorry, hope things still worked out for you.
  12. I'm also planning to attend FAU for their RN-BSN program, but I plan to complete most of their extra pre-requisites during the summers off from PBCC. Good luck with your studies.
  13. I'm also going to go into the Generic RN program. I'm shooting for Spring 2011. I'll have all the pre/co-requisites done by the application deadline, except for maybe the humanities elective....but I'm going to try and knock that one out also. Have you taken any classes yet? For the requisites, I've gotten ENC1101 and SYG2000 completed. This semester I'm taking DEP2004, and PSY2012. In the spring, I plan to take A&P1,CHM, and Nutrition. In the summer, I'll take A&P2 and Micro. If I feel I can handle it, I'll take a humanities elective during the spring session. As for A&P teachers, I can say that through AllNurses and friends, I've been advised to take Professor Ramsammey (sp?) if possible and to steer clear of Columbo Constantino (sp?).
  14. Not that I have taken any sciences yet, but, I was wondering what program you plan on going into? RN or LPN? I also go to PBCC.
  15. Good idea. Thanks, for the response. And, good luck to you in clinicals! That must be very exciting. Also, thanks for the encouragement...I appreciate it. :redpinkhe
  16. Well, congrats on that. :) But, there's nothing more you would cover, if you were doing the report?
  17. First off, I'd like to say that I have so much respect for nurses as a whole and cannot wait to be amongst your ranks. :) I'm a pre-nursing student working on a career Power Point presentation about my "ultimate career choice" Ultimately, I would like to become a NNP. My question to you all is, what areas do you think would be most important for me to cover during my presentation. So far, I plan to cover: education, job outlook, and define the role of a NNP. If there is anything you feel would be important for me to cover during my presentation I'd really appreciate the input. Also, if you would like to provide me with any of your personal experience's of journey to becoming a NNP I would love to hear it. Thank you for your time. FuftureFLRN
  18. Hi, My dream is to work NICU or pediatric (maybe something like pediatric oncology, icu?). Anyways, my mother-in-law swears that Florida Hospital in Sebring has an extensive pediatric unit. Is this so? I haven't been able to find anything to support her claim, yet. I am hoping to find any and all information/opinions about these hospitals, more specifically the ones in Sebring and Lake Placid. I ask because the hubby and I are considering to eventually move that way to be closer to family. I'd love to know what the working conditions are like for Florida Hospital (Sebring, or Lake Placid)? How strong of an orientation program do they have? Do they tend to hire new grads? What is an approximate starting pay for a new grad? What is the extent of services for their pediatric unit? Would someone who dreams to work NICU, or possibly pediatrics be happy working in the pediatric unit of Florida Hospital, Sebring? Also, any insight about hospitals within an hour or so of the Lake Placid area that have a great NICU or pediatric department is also greatly appreciated! Thanks.
  19. Was just curious if anyone else on here is working on pre/co-requisites in hopes of entering PBCC's RN program--Spring 2011? If so, what classes have you completed? What do you still need to take?
  20. Thanks for the replies. Polka-dot: Thanks for the suggestion of the UNcalander--just the kind of organization I was looking for!
  21. Was just wondering if anyone had any suggestions about student planners. There was one someone suggested on here, but I can't remember the brand for the life of me. Wish I would have ordered it when I first saw it. Thanks for any input!!
  22. I took psych in the spring and had a 2000 word minimum paper to do. I wrote my paper on whether or not serial killers are "born to kill or driven to murder". It was pretty interesting, and I got an A. Also, here is a list of topics my professor provided for people to chose from.... 1. Are humans naturally violent? 2. Does evolutionary psychology explain human sex differences? 3. Are genetic explanations of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder faulty? 4. Should animal research in psychology be eliminated? 5. Do mothers who work outside the home have a negative effect on their children? 6. Does the divorce of parents harm their children? 7. Should psychology adopt a theory of multiple intelligences? 8. Do adults repress childhood sexual abuse? 9. Is drug addiction a choice? 10. Do multiple personalities exist? 11. Does drug abuse treatment work? 12. Is treating homosexuality ethical and effective? 13. Does electroshock therapy cure depression? 14. Is media violence harmful to children? 15. Does the internet have psychological benefits? 16. Is Mediaography harmful? Hope you come up with something...Good luck on your paper! :)
  23. I agree with mimib. The giant desk calender is great. The way I plan to set my up for the fall is, once I have my teachers picked, I'm going to print up their syllabus, and write in all the due dates on my calender. Also, I color code each class...and, I've hung the calender on the wall across from my bed, so that I see it first thing every morning, and know what I need to work on. In addition to that, (I take a couple online classes) I make folders on my desktop for each class, so that notes and assignments have a home, rather being lost in documents. I also "name" each assignment by class code and assignment/chapter #. And, if you do take online classes, make sure you print up your notes/reviews so you can look at them away from the computer. Good luck staying organized. :)
  24. My dream is to work in NICU...possibly an area of pediatrics... but as the OP said, it could change after I finish school (even though I don't think it will). :)
  25. Good luck!! I'll be in your boat next May...Unless I decide to go with PBCC. Is BC the only program you're applying to? If so, any particular reason? Like is it a pros vs. cons kind of thing? If you can't tell, I'm kind of stuck trying to decide where to go. Any input you can give me would be really appreciated!
