  1. there are a lot of Colleges and Universities that offer MAN in the philippines...your job is to pick the school that has a good reputation and one that will enhance you as a professional...be careful with choosing your school because although they say it is MAN, it would seem unlikely MAN...
  2. i wouldnt claim that my strategy is absolute but it works for me ...i hope u can find some things you can use...and hoping you can share what you have too :redbeathe
  3. hey im taking exam maybe march of 2009 ...im still on Phase 1 so theres a lot to accomplish before i actually schedule :typing
  4. Congratulations !! Just curious, how did you study the 1st time you took the test?
  5. where did you buy the new edition of Saunders?
  6. so i am to experience the same when i take my CA boards...sigh...
  7. (update) strategy phase 1 - extensive content reading with pre and post test with note taking on each content area. - all content areas should be covered before phase 2. - the objective is not to score lower than 70% on post test. - progress is reviewed. - the notes for nclex-rn exam should be reviewed again before proceeding to the phase 2. - tests are diagnostic. phase 2 - practice tests from cd roms in the exam mode with note taking as necessary. content reading is minimal. focus is on rationales. - the content of the test is based on a specific content area. - the objective is to obtain 80% correct scores on any given number of items. - phase 2 ends when all content areas are covered. - progress is reviewed. - tests are either diagnostic or evaluative. phase 2 will not end if evaluative results are not 80% or better. phase 3 - integrated tests are taken until a saturation of 85-95% is achieved. - phase 3 will not end until the objective for this phase is attained. - progress is reviewed. - each test should be treated as if it were the actual test at this phase. distractions should not be entertained. set or adapt to the environment when taking the test. environmental control may not be possible for phase 1 or phase 2 because tests may reveal rationale after answering and a need to understand the rationale is required; in effect, it would not simulate the actual test. there will be no smoking. - tests are purely evaluative. a grading system will have to be determined before proceeding to phase 4 (tentative: 30% diagnostic and 70% evaluative) phase 4 - an assessment for readiness to take nclex-rn. grading system from phase three will be taken into consideration. - level of anxiety and confidence is assessed as this phase will determine if there is a need to enrol in a review course. - a final test will be taken in this test. phase 5 - schedule the test. - scheduling the test should be done after decisions are finalized in phase 4. - make necessary arrangements 2 months before the test, that is, the schedule of the test should have already been finalized within reaching a satisfaction level in phase 4. types of testing preparation pre-test no prior reading is done. purely diagnostic. maybe be either content specific or integrated. assisted combination test (act) answering questions that are known and leaving out 2 guesses for questions that are not known. these guesses are based on critical thinking skills.post-test tests taken after content reading. the major component of this test is taken from chapter ender quizzes.post-test study tests taken after post-tests. the major component of this test is taken from cd roms' on study mode.integrated test tests that are not content specific.diagnostic test composed of all types of testing to determine weaknesses and strengths.evaluative test tests that are taken into account to assess readiness to take nclex-rn exam. example of combinations: diagnostic pre-test integrated, diagnostic or evaluative post-test integrated, evaluative post-test, diagnostic assisted pre-test
  8. hey guys, i am doing a self study for the nclex-rn exam and i am posting my own strategy in this thread. i have noticed that my strategy keeps evolving as i go through the contents in nursing. i would very much appreciate if you can share your own and leave a comment regarding the matter. thank you !! :redbeathe strategy phase 1 - extensive content reading with pre and post test with note taking on each content area. - all content areas should be covered before phase 2. - the objective is not to score lower than 70% on post test. - progress is reviewed. phase 2 - practice tests from cd roms with note taking as necessary. content reading is minimal. - the content of the test is based on a specific content area. - the objective is to obtain 80% correct scores on any given number of items. - phase 2 ends when all content areas are covered. - progress is reviewed. phase 3 - integrated tests until a saturation of 85-95% is achieved. - phase 3 will not end until the objective for this phase is attained. - progress is reviewed. phase 4 - an assessment for readiness to take nclex-rn. - level of anxiety and confidence is assessed as this phase will determine if there is a need to enrol in a review course.
  9. "clear minds think better" sometimes i forget this...i was doin endocrine and then in my practice tests i keep confusing cushing addison conn... then i took a break and they just revealed themselves to me...
  10. 75-85% is good imo...me im only getting an average of 75% my highest is 82% and im like ugh pls hit 90% already...
  11. im taking mine early next year have tons of time to prepare...i still cant hit an 85% with my practice tests..i average on 70% the highest iv gotten is a 79%...im so far away from my goal... im still on my phase 1 (content reading + practice tests)... thank you for caring :redbeathe
  12. im getting 68-76% post-test (after i do content reading)...i plan to hit 80% on my readiness exam...
  13. i only have the 3rd edition....how far is it from the 4th (Saunder)
  14. im goin to take the cali boards too.....i heard its crazy....
  15. YAY congratualations !! im goin to take your advice !! my problem with studying is i forget to stop...no wonder im performing better with pretests than posttest lol...
  16. i do pretests (no content reading) and post-tests (with content reading)..then i make notes on my mistakes or if i dont understand the concept i read the entire material.....you're not expected to know everything but comprehension should make it less pressuring when it comes to knowing the content (an exception to this is knowing the exact values of lab results because you have to know these values in black and white)... i do practice tests also and read the rationales (sometimes even when i get correct answers my rationale for choosing the answer is different from what i read in the book LOL) and considering that you have seen the actual test, you should be able to know your own areas of difficulty... i havent taken NCLEX yet but my goal is to hit 80% on my diagnostic tests before taking the exam...i dont know if its possible but iv been getting 65-77% on post tests...sometimes i get higher results in my pretests than postests w/c i find it weird... and yeah i keep a record of my practice tests to see pattern (which should help me modifying existing study strategies) goodluck to you !!
  17. i got this passage from someone around this forums "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind." - II Timothy Chapter 1 and verse 7....hope it helps you. and good luck !!
  18. Hey guys, I will be taking NCLEX soon and would like to know how you measured your readiness to take the exam. I'd really appreciate any reply. Thanks !!
  19. how about im am so touched by "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and f love and of a sound mind." I am preparing for my NCLEX and even as an educator for 5 years im only getting a 70% passing on all my diagnostic tests...i do not know if this is a good sign but 70% at our school spells out as 75 grade(just passing)... i have to read books and sometimes drop what I know coz nclex is somewhat different to the phil context of nursing. how do you guys know you have studied enough for the test?
