how long does the WA state RN license take to process?
Hello, Can anyone tell me how long does the WA state RN license take to process if you're having it endorse? I'm from Hawaii and I was wondering how long will it take for me to recieve it. And I know i have to complete a course in AIDS I notice there were several DVDs & online courses I can take but some were 7 hours long which was more expensive, others were 2 hours long which was cheap. Is there a difference between the hours?

any one working in long term care?
Hello, I felt the same way too... But I couldn't just stay home and wait till someone calls me for job. So I ended giving my resumes to all the long term care facilities here on oahu. And now that I'm currently working at a facility, I've been having phone calls from other facilities. And you'd be surprise some of them pay really good. I'm actually a call-in but hey at least it's something. I know what you mean when you say you don't want to get stuck in LTC, there were other nurses I knew that worked in LTC for the 1st year and later got hired in the hospital. However, I know a girl who started off with LTC as an LPN, got her RN, applied to hospitals but no one wanted to hire her, so she ended up being the supervisor at her LTC job. I know I really don't want that too happen to me. And yes, I do miss the acute setting because I just graduated and I want to do all the raw stuff. I thought I would go into LTC when I retire but I guess thats not the case. However, I'm not giving up in applying to the hospital jobs. I've also looked at other states so hopefully I get a hospital job cause I do want to work in the ICU. But with all the advices I've gotten from here, LTC experience is better than outpatient clinic experience because LTC does bedside care & you're with the pts 24/7 unlike clinic nurse-- you'll be stuck there forever. But you know whats sooo stupid, I hope this won't change your mind about LTC nursing, but this girl that i work with told me that she tried applying to the hospitals here in Hawaii, but all of them told her that her experience at LTC is not counted as nursing experience! How stupid is that. Well, this other nurse that i talked to and she's from the mainland told me that in the mainland they consider LTC as a nursing experience. So I guess Hawaii's f*** uped!

I am a RN from Hawaii moveing to California
hello, I too applied for a california license and I am also from hawaii. What you do is go to the california board of nursing website, from there apply for a california license, there is a section where you click under finger printing and when you click and enter your info like your address, they will send it to you. From there, you go to a place where they are authorized to do finger printing. When you do go there, there is a fee for the process and you will be paying 2 fees because the california board of nursing wants 2 fingerprint cards. Then after it has been sealed, you must send it to the board of nursing in california & send a check another processing fee. I did my fingerprint processing at Image City it's at Restaurant Row. Give them a call to make an appt. it will only take about 30 min. You can PM me if you need more info. Hope that helps!

You were a CNA, were you hired as a nurse after graduation at your institution?
Yeah it's happening to me at this very moment.... This is in Hawaii not in Cali... I have been a CNA over 2 years I have graduated since last Jan passed my boards in Nov, and I have been applying like crazy in the hospital I work for and yet, I have been rejected so many times. There were people who've only worked there for about a month or so, and they were able to get into the new grad program. How messed up was that! I emailed the HR and wondered why I haven't been accepted into the new grad positions, and they told me that those positions will be for the current new grads who supposedly is not guaranteed a job. It's really stupid. I want to quit because I can't stand being a nurse's aide and I'm so overqualified. But a friend of mine told me not to quit because if I quit I end up not being in the system and my chances of getting into the next new grad program will be slim. I'm hurt by all of this because I have worked so hard for them and yet they can't even give me a position as an RN.

New grad program at VA palo alto?
yeah... You need to call them up. They don't post their new grad programs on their job bulletin website. It took me weeks to contact them. Here's the number: 650-493-5000 ext 64530. Yeah I've applied to their new grad program which starts in March. But I haven't heard from them since. We'll see. I don't know when their next new grad program starts, but you can call them. Just keep calling until someone picks up. I've left several messages but they never seem to call me back. Good luck!

Help! Need advice on interview
Happy New Year everyone! Well, I"m a new grad. I just graduated in Jan 08. Yes it's been a year and I still have no job! Anyways, I took my boards in March 08, however, I was unable to pass my nclex exam. So I did Suzanne's plan and for the 2nd time I passed in Nov 08. Yes, I know it took me that long to take it again, but I didn't want to risk taking the exam every 45 days if I was unsure of myself. I'll end up paying $1,000 if I took it 5 times!!! No way was I gonna do that!!! Anyways, my concerns are what do I say if I am asked in my interview, "What took me this long in finding for a job?" What do I say to the interviewer? Do I say, "Unfortanately I didn't pass my nclex for the 1st time so I had to take it again, but passed the 2nd time"? My friend told me to never say that because you want to sell yourself to them. So I don't know what to say when a question like that comes up. Do I be truthful or do I lie? Lie--that the reason it took me a long time to take my exam because I had family obligations??? Please help I'm afraid that question might be brought up and I wouldn't know what to say. If I'm honest will that prevent me from getting the job??? Or do I just lie??? Do they really wanna know how much times I took it? I dunno what to do PLEASE HELP!!!!

How do you study for the nclex?
I've taken the nclex this past march unfortunately i did not pass. Now I'm taking it soon, but I don't know how to study for it because a lot of my co-workers are telling me to just answer the practice questions because it's not knowing everything it's knowing how to answer the questions. Well, when I took my nclex in march I studied by just answering questions 150 per day. But that didn't help because when I took the nclex i could not rule out 3 or 2 or even 1 of the answers. They all sounds good. I tried eliminating them by using the ABC and assessment/intervention technique but I still couldn't do it! and now that i'm taking it for the second time around I've been studying things that i don't know because when I took it the first time i didnt' know some stuffs. That's why i couldn't answer them. Some of my co-workers are telling me that i'm wasting my time studying everything because I will never know everything! Please help i really don't know what to study for the 2nd time around.

Need some motivation
It's been 3 months since I last took my NCLEX and failed for the first time. I have been studying here and there but have not been motivated to do so. I'm so bummed, I just don't care anymore. I've been doing other stuffs to keep me busy which I'm enjoying myself, but I've had my friends tell me "what about your NCLEX, you need to take it again?!" I don't know. I guess lately I've been ignoring the fact that I need to study for the NCLEX and I am very terrified to take it again because I'm afraid I will fail for the 2nd time. And I can't go through that again!!!! Please help I need some positive motivation....

Hospital vs. Nursing Agency?
Hello, Can anyone tell me what's the difference between applying to a nursing agency to help you get a job versus applying straight to the hospital of your choice? What are the pros and cons? Because my co-worker told me that I would get paid less if I applied with the agency, but they do help me find a place to stay versus applying with the hospital I get paid more, but I have to find my own place. Can anyone tell me more about how this works because I just graduated and I want to work in California. My co-worker tells me to get endorsed by the agency-- I really don't know what that means!
